yea buddy, old fords rule!!! did anyone here happen to catch the article in HOT ROD magazine, they put a lightning up against a corvette, it was a good article but, since we all know that HOT ROD, and most all of the mainstream car & truck magazines are c#*%y bias, i feel they do not tell us of the final verdict. were they too shocked that a truck that weighs in at twice that of the vette, kicks its butt? i think we here know the answer to that.. i think i'll get one of the 2001 models though, hp will jump to 375hp., and it will get its own headlights, taillights, and grille, different to the std f150 stuff, i cant wait... total redesign is slated for 2003, with the new body style, that should be interesting...
if you owned a ford lightning you could pull a 4000 lb boat like there was nothing behind you and still be able to beat a honda in a race while you are towing the boat....
Hypothetically: what if chevy were to go and put a 2 stroke motor in a corvette? Would people complain about its unfair performance advantages over a standard 4 cycle? Would they complain about the damaging effects that 50/50 gas/oil mix had on the environment? NO!!!! all the little bowtie boys out there would be singing the praise of this marvelous motor that somehow produces a billion horsepower and gets a whopping 2 miles to the gallon. Forget that it sounds about as threatening as a weedeater and requires more tuning on the exhaust than the entire engineering team at chevy would have the patience for. yes this sounds stupid, but noone said not to do it. Nor did anyone say not to put a supercharger in a truck and see what it can do. Come on people, your putting a TRUCK againts a purpose built sports car, the odds are already against the truck and its not even on the line yet! Yes the lightning has a Supercharger, DEAL WITH IT!
I find one flaw to your logic. Chevrolet is just as guilty of doing the same exact thing. See also detuning a Corvette engine to put into the camaro?
Better look around before you go throwing stones. You know what they say about people who live in glass houses!
The only reason the Chevy boys are jealous of the lightning is because chevy hasn't been able to come up with anything close to the Lightnings since the 454 SS, which couldn't hold a candle to the 454's of the old days. With the good iron heads compared to the aluminum jobs.

My logic is simple, there is a difference between putting a bottle of NO2 in the back of a mustang and watching it reach really fast speeds and acutally designing an engine that can reach really fast speeds without the NO2. The case of GM vs Ford, it is a simple matter of SC vs. no SC. Try a Mustang vs. a Corvete before you say the Corvette sucks, because the Mustang sucks worse.
I'm sorry, did someone just say mustang and suck in the same sentence? Umm...no, please do not tell me your saying a rice eating race ready hardcore piece of work like a Cobra R sucks. Wheres the blower on that? 2 more words for ya buddy: Mustang BOSS. blower? Nitrous? huh? BTW, where did all these chevy boys come from on a Ford message board? I know I dont go digging through Chevy message boards in my free time.

It seems that every time someone gets close to saying that a chevy is inferior, one of them has to come in and start some kind of crap war, saying let's see the mustang do this without such & such. The only problem is they don't engage the brain housing group before opening the trash hole.
Sorry but I can't stand little boys that tout bowties as the best thing since scented toilet paper.
Let's see how many looks his precious chevy gets when it's parked next to my 65 ford!
Not too many I would guess. Especially since 36 year old styling (which is still as classy as that butt ugly corvette), will always get more looks than something that looks like something a two year old designed.

Ha Ha, ain't it just like a Chevy or Honda Freak. Chevrolet has been for years trying to whip fords, even with the failed attempt of the corvete when they forgot the heater.....Ha ha. Here locally a chevrolet pick-up was whipping all the others, til the powerstroke cleaned his clock. Go Figure.
if any of you stupid a$$ chevy fans read a real magazine by the name of muscle mustangs and fast fords you will see in there a 99 mustang gt with a 100 shot of nos running 12.6 pretty good for just 281 cubic inches.also in there is a 2001 lightning with just a set of slicks running 13.2 not bad for a 3600 pound sled with just 320 cubic inches by the way it is in the july issue
Hey logan_85 about your mustangs suck worse comment....yea a mustang is concered a sports car on the affordable side to the normal person...now a vette is concidered almost a super sports car and to the normal person is just a little (ok alot) out of their budget....now lets do the math a car with a price of 50,000 is faster than a car that costs 26,000 for the gt or 30,000 for the cobra, hmmm i wonder why...now lets take the differance and put the 20,000 in upgrades into the cobra and see where it stands....
So logan, what about when chevy made the lingerfelter corvette. TWO superchargers???? And you say chevy doesn't use anything? Are you trying to tell everyone that there is nothing performance or aftermarket about a corvete engine? The only thing Ford added to the lightning was the Eaton Supercharger, everything else was Ford parts. Chevy hasn't come close to that, and the 454SS is a heap. It ran what? 16.5? 17.00? Come on!!! The first lightning I believe never had a supercharger, and was ranked right up with the Chevy 454SS. Your trying to tell us that Chevy's stock 454 is suposed to be superior to a 351, yet it's not! So much for the displacement theory...wait, no, displacement is a big factor, but only when you're actually using good parts and building good motors.
