I don't know if you are aware of this or not, but Ford made a unibody pickup long before Chevy even thought about their newest joke! Try 1961-1963 F-100 unibodies, also try the rancheros.
Just a little enlightenment from someone who knows about older Ford trucks.
1988 F-150, SWB, 5.0 EFI (formerly 4.9 EFI), M5OD 5 speed, 3.08 gears, Summit shorty truck headers, Custom built Flowmaster exhaust system. Force 4 LP6000 lightbar, Federal signal PA-300 100 watt siren, Icom IC-V100 50 watt mobile radio.

1965 F-100 (just purchased 1/18/01), SWB, 390, C-6 auto. Dual exhaust, Not much else to do to it.
Thanx i didnt know that, but they werent HP trucks were they ? i mean Chev (hate that damn name) is supposed to put megga HP in a unibody truck that probly wont be able to take it.... i dunno i think the "frame" is the best bet and they hold up in an accedent to...once a unibody's been hit not much you can do with it except scrap it.....hey thats not a bad idea...(for the chev's that is)
but thanx i'll look into those older Fords i really didnt know they were a unibody setup...

Yeah, the 61-63 unibodies were slick looking trucks, I have seen some restofied that put out some serious HP! Can you say "bye bye chevy?"
On the subject of the new chevy joke truck. I think they call it the sst? Whcih stands for Super Stupid Truck right? Anyway, I think they are still looking at production, meaning tehy "might" produce this thing that they call a truck.
Hmmm, Ford has the Lightning which sounds & is fast. And chevy has the sst (or Super Stupid Truck) which might be fast? But it is definitely butt-ugly! Typical of chevy's new styling artists. No wonder their vehicles are starting to cost so much. It's hard to find good talent anymore because they're all at Ford & Dodge!

LOL! Some of this is funny. Makes sense to a Chevy boy (and a Chevy mag) to compare a 2-seated sports car to a full-sized Ford truck. ::chuckle:: Guess it just goes to show how far out of the running Chevy trucks are. (There is no production Silverado SS, so don't bring that up.)
Tell you what, stick a supercharger on the Vette, then put 1200 lbs of sacked concrete under the hatch to get it up to the same weight as the full-sized-truck Lighting, then let's hang 4000 lbs of boat or car or building supplies or... you get the idea... behind each one and have ourselves a little drag race. I'd wager BIG money that the Vette's driveline would self-destruct while the Lightning did just what it's designed to do - haul and haul.
I'm not taking anything away from the Vette, but let's be real here.
Oh, and BTW, my '95 truck has shown MANY Corvette's its taillights, some of which are pretty seriously modified. And it's a daily driver, racking up 20K miles a year, so you can toss the "most heavily modified" tripe. Actually, the fastest of the Lightnings ran in the 7s@170 mph last year. This year it's coming back with twin turbos replacing the single Big Thumper and shooting for 6's at 200+ mph. Not too shabby for a small-block truck, eh?
I have to go with fmos on this one. There really is no comparison between the 2. In Chevy's defense (devils advocate for a minute) a friend of mine does have a shortbed 1500 SS with a 454 and a 5 speed, which im sure with a pilot who knows how to throw a stick, could lay down some pretty impressive numbers. But this was not a new truck, it was at least 5 years old. I have yet to see anything like that since then. Lets not forget the fact that the Lightning by itself is a beautiful piece of machinery, whereas the Chevy is a rectangle. Sorry to all the bowties out there, but youve yet to drag me to the dark side. Maybe when I find a 10 year old STOCK chevy that can outrun my 10 year old STOCK F-150...nah, then ill just have to do something to mine!

Wow 45 thousand dollar sports car hangs with 30,000 truck, impressive NOT. All you guys whine about the supercharger, tough, it's got one deal with it! Silverado SS? Yeah i heard the hype still haven't seen one at the strip.
By the way BS talks/Timeslips walk. Mine says 13.5@101 with A Cone air filter as my only mod. What does that POS you drive do?
>thank you very much. take away
>the lightning's supercharger and it's
>scrap metal just like all
>other fords. the lighning tops
>out at 140?? they have
>to gear it that low
>just to hang with the
>vette. and by the way,
>if you added a s/c
>to the vette, the lightning
>wouldn't even see the vette's
>tail lights it would be
>so far ahead. and has
>anybody heard of the new
>silverado ss? its supposed to
>make the lighning look even
>dumber. and remember all, FORD
>really stands for found on
>road dead
Obviously Galaxyeng hasnt quite understood the concept of a 45000 dollar sports (damn near race) car vs. one HEAVY PICKUP!! quick physics lesson here buddy, to get the mass of 1 F-150 lightning moving at the same speed as your bowtied corvette, its gonna take alot more power. Super charger, turbo charger, twin turbo, twin supercharger (yes i have seen that), horsepower is horsepower no matter how you stack it up. So forgetting what the relation in numbers are, when i hear that a pickup can hold its own against a CORVETTE id say thats quite an accomplishment. I would definately say that the guys over at SVT have done a pretty good job thus far! Oh and by the way, being a bowtie freak on a FORD message board, I would definately not be casting mud at my fellow chevy fans out there:
[ Diverman- Get a spell check! By the way it's Z06 you moron. D@mn you think a chebbie fan would know his own iron! ]
Peace!

LAST EDITED ON 29-Mar-01 AT 02:37 AM (EST)[p]OK..its actually quite common to see the lightning side by side w/ the vette if not in front of..I have seen it happen. And when did chevy start making the z08? It hasnt even been a year since they started making the z06, which by the way has a top speed of a little over a 140 miles an hour..it lost top end speed cuz gm geared it lower to shave an extra 1/10 of the quarter and improve acceleration. So a 30k truck going as fast as a 60ksports car? Man I'd be embarresed if I was driving a vette and some college kid was pulling away from me in a truck filled w/ his lawn mowing equipment. And don't even get me started on the SS or SST silverado. 1. They are putting the largest engine they have (from the 3/4 ton)in the 1/2 ton truck. If ford did that they would be cramming a massive 6.8 v10 in their truck 2. As of yet I have yet to see anything about a production model but they started talking about it more than 2 years ago when they debuted the new body style. 3. When you take a gm and price it against a comporable ford your gonna be looking at 10k more. So a 40k truck is what your looking at? I'm gonna leave it at that. OBTW I am a corvette/camaro fan I have had chevy trucks adn ironically enough I even once worked for GM and don't hate them I just have more common sense than most of their customers and realize that hands down when it comes to the bang 4 yer buck factor Ford wins hands down.
Red351-If my sig would have posted you could see I am indeed one of the good guys.
I ran that 13.5 timeslip in my Red 2000 Lightning at the Lightnings at Etown event Mar 23, Weighed 4670 lbs. The fastest truck there ran a 12.3 with no internal engine mods. The funny thing is I like Corvettes, my next car is probably going to be a Vette. I do agree that the L has better bang for the buck and is a lot more practical. However I can't stand morons who probably don't even own a vehicle posting loud proclamations of their ignorance. Why is it some guys think that every other vehicle beside their brand has to suck? Seems like a case of envy to me
ok ford fans, the facts are in, and it doesn't look good for the lightning. 1/4 mile, 2001 lightning-14.3@99mph. corvette z06-12.6@112 mph, winner- chevy! 0-60, lightning-6.2. corvette z06-4.3, winner-chevy by nearly 2 seconds! miles per gallon, lightning 13, corvette 19, winner, chevy once again (is anybody seeing a trend here?).600 ft. slalom speed, lightning 61.3, corvette-68.4.braking 60-0 mph, ligtning 150 ft. corvette z06-111 ft. winner, in no surprise...chevy!! and yet the lightning has more hp? in conclusion the lighning is nothing but a horsepower loaded non-gas mileage getting piece of ford! while on the other hand the corvette is just one fine piece of work from the best car maker in the world. next time lets try putting the lightning up against something more of it's type, like the chevy metro!!
ROFL! Here we go with another Chevy boy and their bizarre logic - comparing a truck to a sports car.
First, Chevy Boy, that 14.3 is pretty pathetic. My stock 2000 truck ran 13.60s. Stock 2001s run 13.40s. Granted that's not enough to unseat a Z06, but how about we compare it to ANY Chevy truck? Eh? Awwww... so sad, you lose.
How about we compare a stock Lightning to a stock Impala SS? Oooo, that would be scary for you, huh SS-boy? The Impala SS couldn't match a Gen 1 Lightning in ANY measure of performance, to say nothing of a Gen 2.
Shame shame shame, a truck putting the smack on a car - granted, it's just a glorified taxi, but still... It's a car!
Later!
