This is too funny a thread to pass up. I've never owned a Lightning but have owned 3 Ford trucks. My current truck is a 92 F250 with a Banks powered 7.3L. I have to give credit to the SVT team as the current crop of SC'd engines are great.....BUT.....I also own a Z06 Corvette and trust me, this car is not about 1 single area of stellar performance. It's a complete performance package. One that a Lightning coudn't touch on a good day. There are bone stock Z06's running 11.9's on factory rubber and drag racing was NOT on the designers minds when this car was built. The car is for road racing pure and simple. The fact that folks drag them is a moot point. I will concede however that a Lightning can haul way more gravel. I personally never liked Chevy and have never owned one until I test drove a used 01 Z06 on a whim...I bought that car, then slid it into a lake sideways 1 year later. I replaced it with an 03 Z06. As much as Chevy does wrong...the Z06 is one thing they did right 10-fold
The point is that anything can be made to go fast in a straight line if you stuff enough money under the hood....or sometimes none at all. It's probably the single easiest performance category to improve. Last year I sold my 12 year old motorcycle. I bought it new for $4600 in 1990. I sold it for $1100 and to this day that thing can run 10's all day long. I'd compare that to a Lightning but it can't haul any gravel at all except what could fit in my pockets.
ok guys. my dad ownes an 85 Vette that will put a Z06 in its plce untuned (we ran 11.77 @ 120.5 mph at Quaker City Raceway in Salem Ohio). the last 400 ft are up hill on the track. the fat fronts were on and BFG Comp TA were the rears. a striagt track would have produced an 11.5 high. anyway, the Lightning is on heck of a respectable truck. it hauls and hauls **** when hauling a load. one cant compare a Lightning and a Vette. that Car Vs truck. the real comparo is the Dodge SRT 10. i hate to say thr Ford need an SC to consider competing with the Vette let alone a Dodge wich r both NA. id like to see Ford put out an NA truck to play against the Dodge.
I would put down my hard earned cash on that Ford is contemplating on putting the 5.4L in the Ford GT, into a L.
Why else would Ford engineers make the GT engine go through all the tests that a standard production motor would go through? I need to find the link on this, as I read it in HOT Rod awhile back.
500 hp and 500 ft/lbs.....that would put a smile on any driver!
