You can get all different kinds of attachments for a skidsteer. Everything from post drivers to jackhammers, to mowing decks. They are pretty neat little things to have. Kubota does make tractors up to 70hp. I dont know how big you guys were talking though. As far as John Deere, that green paint is mighty expensive!! I personally dont think JD makes there equipment with the quality that they used to. Seen a the wind catch a door on a 4'x5' JD bailer one time while it was being pulled down the road. That door was $1200. Glad I had nothing to do with it and didnt have to pay for it.
Not too bad. Pretty uneventful race, but Carl did win which I was glad to see. I'm pulling for him to win the championship though, and with Jimmy finishing second, Carl wasn't able to gain much ground on him. There's 4 races left in the season though, and a lot can happen over the next four weeks.
Racing? MotoGP season is over..... OOOHHHHHHH... you mean those guys that chase their tails for hours on end.... well, hell... they even race turtles...

Finest quote of the day, it may make it all day as the finest. There can't be a more boring event in person or on television.

I got a bad taste in my mouth for JD back in the late '60s and never bought another, either bought Ford or MF wheel tractors and IH dozers and loaders and later kamatsu
I now have a kabota L-35 backhoe loader,I don't think anyone builds one as versital,I can drop the hoe in about 5 min and use 3 pt to mow or what ever

Yeah JD's are sort of like luxury cars. Its just a Toyota underneath but what you pay for is the emblem.
Guys realistically, I'd be buying something very used and/or very old. I can't justify spending 10k in a hoe/loader or brand new tractor.
Saw a Ford tractor on the site Jacob listed, looked like a cool machine.

Fords are good tractors oe of my favorites was the 3400 industrial
going back a little old the Jubilee (1953) and newer were good preferably diesel in the later years of those models
after '68 i always prefered the yellow fords (industrial)

Ok. Thanks Ray I will look those up on the site Jacob provided. Hopefully by summertime we'll have a house/land scoped out..but if I find a tractor I like before then, I'd buy it in anticpiation and ride it around on the acre behind the rental house..lol

Ford 8N's are popular for what you are looking to do, as are IH 300 series utility tractors. My dad has an Allis Chalmers D17 series 3 with a loader that he did not pay much more than $5k for. Its a decent sized machine with a nice loader, but a manual trans, so its slow for snow removal. smaller25-30HP skid loaders can be had below $8k, but for a 60HP workhorse figure $12k and up for a skid loader.

8Ns are still popular but parts a getting scarce and they were pretty slow
the 8n had a model A engine
actually should concentrate on a '68 or newer
All the tractors in the price range she is talking will most likely be manual shift a shuttle is best
I always look at what a repair will cost and ford has always been cheapest
Don't take this wrong but this has been my experience in the 45 yrs I have worked on them

Actually parts for the 9N,2N & 8N are readily available on line I have a 51 8N that I use mostly for cutting the grass, my dad has a 52 8N and my stepbrother has a 40 9N. They are good solid tractors roughly 24 to 27 hp but there are newer more powerful ones out there that are easier to operate ; Power steering ,shuttle shift, live pto power .
This was a unmolested 1946 2N in perfect shape dad sold it for $2000.00 its painted like a 8N( 2N's were dark gray only no red at all ) but other than that it could have been entered in a tractor show. [IMG][/IMG]
