I'm bunkered in on the East side of the storm. I'm near the TX/LA border south of I-10. We are seeing rain bands now. the trees are shaking pretty good. just waiting for the hard stuff to hit.
Just took a walk through the subdivision. Trees are starting to sway and make noise here too. Lots of people have stayed but a lot have left too.

I believe we will be alright. The worst I hope to expect is some wind damage to the house's shingles. My garage and big shed are steel and should be up to the task of the storm. I am on the west side of its path and about 60 miles from the coast. Looks like we will be on the outer edge of the hurricane force winds.
Thanks for all your prayers ane well wishes.
Good to see you on, Roland. Hang in there brother!
I've got my scanner on and there are already reports of burglaries at closed businesses in Conroe.
Thanks Scott,
Hope you and the family stay safe.
PM for my number, and yourself or any other members are welcome to come ride out the storm here.
I live in a log house, so I dont think my house is going anywhere.
Wow, one of those natural things that just make you shake your head in sheer amazement at how something like this can happen. I havent been on this earth too long, probably half as long as most of ya here, and im sure you all reached that point in life when you get this horrible feeling of knowing some people in harm's way that you really care about, however can't do anything to help, other than pray for the best. Thats what im doing for all of you southerners, wish you all the best.
Kris, This is exactly what I was thinking as I read these posts.
I will keep all of you in my thoughts a prayers!!!
My phones have been quite all day and I am so thankful you guys are still safe. I really hope that none of you need to call and are able to post your situations yourself, but I think most of you have my numbers and are welcome to call.
On a funny note, did any of you guys see Dave Price of CBS catch that way on live TV? I guess even the worst of times can provide a little humor.
Good luck be safe.
Fox News Channel just said Ike is about to become a cat3, only needs to gain 1 more mph in wind strength, it has speeded up in forward progress and the central pressure has dropped. They said it doesn't have time to become a cat 4, thank god.
You guys please be careful.... I will be thinking of all of you.

Barry and Jim,
I have your contact numbers. Hope to be able to post my update tomorrow if we don't lose power. I will call ya'll and let you know our status when it's all over. Thanks again to everyone for your concern. With all your support, we have to be alright. I know you wouldn't have it any other way. I'm going to try to relax now. It's been a pretty busy couple of days lately.
The only thing alarming us right now is the fact that the eye has become more defined, also that they are now saying that the eye will pass directly over Conroe. Willis and Conroe are like the same town. One good thing though....they say that the weather is really peaceful once you're in the eye. Then you get whacked by the backside a little later...

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Scott. I hope to see you guys next weekend. Are we still on for our G2G 2pm @ County Line BBQ? Getting pretty windy here now.
Yeah, and as big as this sucker is.
Where I'm at might as well be Conroe.
This has gotta be the worst storm in my neck of the wodds I can remember, and I've lived here most of my life.

Yeah, it's neat. Hugo's eye passed right over us in 89 as a cat 1 with 100mph gust. Not having to deal with many hurricanes this far inland, we all jumped in our trucks with chainsaws in hand and started clearing the roads. Well, the back side of the eys was far worse and caught some of us out. Can't imagine having to face that every season.

Good thing, it's still a Cat 2. Been on the verge of Cat 3 all day but I do not think it'll get there now that it's making landfall. The G2G...depends on the power. With Rita we didn't have power for two weeks. That was just a glancing blow.

You're right, Eric! Are you in Navasota? Bring me some Ruthie's BBQ!

As soon as that eye gets here we are launching the jet ski....
