Our latest update here in MoCo:

Ike: update at 10:30 a.m.

Moore Furniture Store employee Anthony Mooris drills screws to secure wood boards to the windows of the Conroe store. Residents are preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Ike.

By T.L. Hamilton
Published: 09.12.08
As of 10:30 a.m. Friday weather in Conroe was warm, dry and breezy. Late Thursday night, forecasters said Hurricane Ike will more than likely make landfall with category 2 winds. The forecast has also shifted a tad bit more toward the east. The Montgomery County area can expect sustained winds 50-75 mph, 5-10" rain with flooding in poor drainage areas, isolated tornadoes, according to ABC 13 meteorologist Tim Heller.

Traffic looked clear on Interstate 45 from downtown to FM 1488. All traffic is flowing smoothly with no backups, said a DPS official.

Montgomery County officials have not called for voluntary or mandatory evacuation. Residents are advised to shelter in place. Many cities in Galveston County are under mandatory evacuation, as well as residents of low-lying areas in Harris County.

As of 10 p.m. Thursday night, 10 gas stations throughout the county were out of fuel, said Lt. Dan Norris, public information officer for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Norris said some of these stations, which are evenly scattered throughout the county, may have been refueled by 10:30 a.m. Friday, but they have not reported as such.

“As we understand it, the refueling trucks are running behind due to traffic and demand,” Norris said.

Norris said a list of stations that have run out of gas will be available later Friday when they’ve updated which ones have since refueled.

I think most know how to contact me with info except Roland and Joe. Rick is going to pass my info along if he gets in touch with them. I'll be checking in often and posting what I know. For you southerners, you know what hunker down means and I hope you do it if you stay. Just seen the news and Galveston is already starting to get hammered.
There saying 20 foot surge and 50 foot waves. Guys, get out if you can. Remember, everything can be replaced but you.

Just got this from Joe.

"Thanks Barry. I am confined at the fire station for the duration and things can and probably will get pretty hectic at some point. Currently we are getting some gusts, but nothing more than a typical spring day. YET!! We expect that to change in a few hours. The eye is due to make landfall somewhwer around Galveston at 1 AMish. We are expecting hurricane force winds for 8 to 12 hours due to the sheer size of the storm. Luckily to this point it is still not but about 100 mph wind speed.
We shall see. Updates as available.
Thanks again.
Joe

Wow, one of those natural things that just make you shake your head in sheer amazement at how something like this can happen. I havent been on this earth too long, probably half as long as most of ya here, and im sure you all reached that point in life when you get this horrible feeling of knowing some people in harm's way that you really care about, however can't do anything to help, other than pray for the best. Thats what im doing for all of you southerners, wish you all the best.

Good luck to the rest of my neighbors here in Houston area, I left yesterday for the weekend in Oklahoma visiting our daughter at college, I was able to get everything tied down and ready. Been keeping a close eye on the storm, because I am on first call back at the plant when it passes.

They are telling us most of the rooms are full of Gustav people that won't go home. We dealt with the same thing after Katrina. They get here, decide they like it, and then won't leave.

Am I scared? Yeah, I will admit it, I am a little. Like I said though, they are telling us to stay put. They are also reporting this morning that MoCo will be seeing 70mph sustained with 100mph gusts. That's still strong but nothing like Galveston and South Houston are going to see. We are exactly 95 miles from the seawall. Hoping that works in our favor a little.

Still picking up a few things, trying to figure ouy where to put the dog. Cause that 75# dynamo ain't coming in the house.
they're calling for 70 mph winds here, I hope we don't see em that high.
Too bad I quit drinking, this would be a great time for a "Hurricane" party.

I'm bunkered in on the East side of the storm. I'm near the TX/LA border south of I-10. We are seeing rain bands now. the trees are shaking pretty good. just waiting for the hard stuff to hit.

Unhappy Waitin' to see

Just waiting and watching. Got everthing boarded up, tied down, and put away. The suspense is killing me. I am not one for sitting around. Not much to do now, but wait and see. I believe we will be alright. The worst I hope to expect is some wind damage to the house's shingles. My garage and big shed are steel and should be up to the task of the storm. I am on the west side of its path and about 60 miles from the coast. Looks like we will be on the outer edge of the hurricane force winds.
Thanks for all your prayers ane well wishes.
