thanks man, its really reassuring getting all the thumbs up on how the truck looks...i could see it in my minds eye for a long time now, but you never know how it will turn out, until you actually get the project going....i think it is gonna look tough as nails when i put some 37"s on it....will look even better with a good coat of mud on it!!!
ok, it got warm out so im back at it....i started chasing wires down looking for the neutral safety switch harness......i finally found the cab harness under the dash, i was surprised to see it is just a flat 4 connector just like trailor lighting (NSS wires are the 3 red w/ black stripes)...so i got my spare trailor light pigtail out of my toolbox, spliced the right two wires together and plugged it in...then i turned the key and the motor cranked over..My God it was like the truck awoke, and spoke to me from a 5 year coma.....it didnt fire or anything cause the dizzy isnt in yet, but just the sound of the starter spinning and the motor rolling was music to my ears....im not a supporter of bypassing neutral safety switches at all, this is temporary and ill be wiring it in to the NSS thats on the tranny, but for now its a cool way of bypassing it...i also got my front driveshaft done and installed...i had to eliminate the double cardine(sp?) joint to clear the tranny pan, so i got a driveshaft slip yoke (the small part) from an 80s fullsize bronco, and it just so happened to have the same splines as the original drive shaft i have, plus it is alot larger and longer than the original one..so i used it on the splined end, and used the original end to weld in the other end after i cut the driveshaft down...im sure its not balanced perfect, but we measured and measured, then burnt it in and grinded the ugly welds down to assure we got proper penetration...if it gives a vibration problem i worry about it then.....next step is changing my valve covers because i fubar'd the back of them removing the old cab, and i lost oil just trying to pour it in the motor......while the valve covers are off im going to spin the oil pump and make sure the top end is getting oil......here are some pics of the driveshaft, it has a bit of negative angle, but i may have to live with it for now...
no those bolts are not tight in the pic...but they are now...
yeah no kidding!!! ive been going back and forth trying to decide if i need to put the slip yoke at the axle, or leave it the way it is....either way a driveshaft loop is in order to avoid tranny damage if i lose a ujoint...with it the way it is now i feel better about the clearance....
