no such thing as a cheap tranny guy in oklahoma!!! well, there is, but i wouldnt want em workin on my junk!! they are the type to build a tranny in the dirt and say "its just fine".... im stoked that i finally get to take my truck, Carl and I have been to several organized bogs with his samurai, but my truck has only seen funtime at the river (years ago)....i cant wait to see how it does....

im down to this list to finish up today:

Tranny Lines - gotta go...
Tcase and Diff Lube - Top 'em off...
Tranny Fluid and P/S Fluid - Top 'em off...
Brakes F&R - Pad Slap the Front, Maybe block off the bad rear cylinder...
Steering Stabilizer - Just bolt it up...
Clear out cab and remove carpet - who knows what ill find...
Tranny shift linkage - Carl shortened the one from the 2wd donor truck, just needs bolted it in...
Temp Guage - Not mandatory, but would be nice...

yeah, it was down to the wire, we were knocking things off the build list in record time...once we finally got to the point were it was ready to go, we got the trailor lined up...before the front wheels could even hit the wood on the trailor floor my right front tire caught a sharp corner of the trailor side and POP went the tire....my heart sank at first, i could see the look on Carls face (he was as pumped as me to get this truck going), and at first i thought all that prep work was for nothing...then I said we have the set of 33"s that was on it before...so we got the jack out and did the fastest 4 wheel 8 lug rim swap ive seen in awhile...we werent gonna let the flat get us down..i knew i didnt stand a chance in a pit with the 33"s, but at least i could get the truck out and do a shakedown and see how our fab skilz held up....the motor ran friggin great, EVERYTHING we did on the truck held up with no issues at all...i even did a "what the hell" try at the pit...i was 2nd in line, the guy in front of me had 35" swampers and only got 25', but i didnt care, might as well give her a shot...it was pouring rain like you wouldnt believe, i pulled up, they hooked up the recovery cable, the flag dropped, i dropped the hammer, the motor sang and the wheels spun like mad, but i didnt even move an inch...i tried and tried, but it didnt budge...when i let off the crowd still cheered, im sure alot were laughing, but honestly no one gave me a hard time about it...when my 2nd run came around, the starting line looked a bit better, i almost said screw it and threw in the towel..but when the guy behind me in an 85 F-150 with tires as small as mine said he was gonna go again, i couldnt back out...so i pulled up to the line again...this time i started in 2nd gear hoping for more wheelspin to clear the tires....the flag dropped, i floored it, and i actually moved this time...it didnt go far, but at least it moved...i thought they said 9 feet at first, but after seeing some pics i figure i made it 19'.......i was bummed i didnt get to use the 35's, probably would have gotten at least halfway through....but honestly, im still stoked the truck is alive again...other than the flat i gave it, the truck ran its *** off....i was playing around on some little hills and it just walked over them like it should...i came in dead last with a 0'0" 1st run and 19'ish 2nd run, but i dont even care...it was a great day, and the Ford drove itself back on the trailor when it was all done, what more could u ask for??? oh yeah, my bro Carl took 3rd place in his zuk, he would have had first if he didnt let off the gas after he jumped in the pit.....but hey, he got a trophy, and he didnt break anything either....now i gotta get me some decent tires!!!!

Well, after the premature blowout, i went from this:

To this:

At least we rode there in style, somewhat, lol...

Gotta a little mud on it at least:

Headed home, mud flaked off like paint:

The Nuke took 3rd, i think its badass:

OK, so now im gonna get some tires and see what happens at the next bog!!!

for now i gotta go cheap, so im thinking about some 37" goodyear military tires...i can get them used here in okc for 50 bucks each mounted....also there is a guy on craigslist here selling them new for $350 a set, i will just have to see how much money i can save up in a short time....

I cant link directly to the page on the site, but the mudbog had these people take pictures of the event, you can find it under the Chisholm Trail Mud Bog on April 24, 2010.....

Man thats cool you got to the bog, but too bad about losing a tire.

Thats pretty brave jumping straight into a bog though. Usually I like to test things first so if I have to fix something there's not six inches of mud over it.

i had a good set of the tires your talken about but they burned up in the giant fire we had last year. good road tires but completely useless in the mud. i thought they would be ok but i saw a lot of mud with mine and they suck. but they wear well and are tough. good road manners.

yeah, the tire would have probably burst the first time i hit a hole anyways, they were dry-rotted pretty bad, then i would have been even more pissed, since it happened at the shop, i at least got to use the little ones to do a shake down on it...not quite straight into it, but damn close.... my testing included running the motor for maybe an hour total over a few days, two laps around the parking lot after the shift linkage got installed (so glad the power steering came back to life!!) and a couple 1st and 2nd gear full throttle blasts in the pasture at the event...i was expecting something to bend or break, but it all held up great...i think the biggest victory was something i havent mentioned in this thread...when the truck was still original, i drove it 60+ miles everyday to work and back, and wheeled it when i could find a place...but ever since i got it, the NP203 had a god awfull popping noise from the drive chain when you got into the gas..... someone told me it was slipping, but i think the chain was stretched and just didnt mesh right under heavy load causing it to pop into place over and over....i was concerned the popping noise was in the front axle because no one could really tell where the noise was coming from.....with the NP205, the noise is history...

Not that it matters now, but those 203s are kind of known for having the chain stretch out and pop like that.
