yeah i thought i would cut the draglink, shorten it to whatever size it is, then sleeve it with a short stick of DOM.....at least i will be able to steer it around the shop and yard...and im most likely gonna take your advise on the centerlink and weld on some angle iron to it to beef it up...
well its over a year later, my poor Ford was put on the backburner again...but in the past month or two ive been picking away at the huge list of must-do's for the old F-250 to be mobile again....i finally got the body bolted down, i used some leftover liftblocks i found under the radiator support and front cab mounts, since i didnt reuse the mount bushings it really only netted about 1" of BL....the rear cab mounts i had to make work a different way, but i couldnt find those pics so ill go into that later when i snap more pics....
these are the bolts i used for the fronts...i think they will hold!!
This is what i sleeved my draglink with...
i cut out about 3.5"s to make it fit....
will be fine for a temp fix....
much better angle than it had before...
i trimmed the front grill and lower front fenders to clear, i think it looks good..
can u believe the larger yoke came off an 80's model Bronco?? i was shocked to see it was larger than the one on my 3/4 ton...now i just gotta fit my front driveshaft!!!
all in all im alot closer to starting it up, got some wiring to do to the ignition, mount my fuel tank, install the radiator, fill the fluids, then see what breaks first!!!
Why don't you run that drag link over to the passenger side knuckle for some better steering?
I like the trim job though, haven't seen it done that way before, I like it.
soon as i can afford a crossover steering arm for the passenger side knuckle thats what is gonna happen!! including ditching the rest of the stock arms for DOM and 1 ton TRE's....that is just a temp fix so it can be steered around the shop, but would probably hold up for some mild wheeling...
The truck looks great man.
I am kind of surprised you pulled the post up lol. I read the first page and was like.. "Why would someone reply to this over a year later..."
Good work on the trim too, gives it a bit of a unique look.
Are you putting a bumper on the front or just leaving it bare??
i have some 5" pipe ive planned on using for a bumper for awhile now, ill have to cut it down and put in place to find out if i like it or not....i want to fab a dropped front hanger with a reciever like Pro and Ivan have on their rigs...for now its gonna stay bare till the other stuff on my list is done.....thanks for the compliments, i cant wait to get better tires under it and see how it looks then, those BFGs are rotted and shot...ill prolly end up with some 37" militarys unless i find a better deal locally....
Being as no one mentioned this yet, if you are putting in a 203/205 doubler inplace of 203, IF you don't move your rear axle the rear drive shaft should not have to be modified.
good catch!! i have thought of this in my great debate of moving the axle...but the cold truth is i cant afford a doubler at the moment...moving my axle forward is also gonna bring my wheelbase back down...it was at 155" stock, but the front axle is moved forward 3.5 inches putting me at 158.5", the rear axle will be moving forward about 10-11"s putting me in the 147" ish range, whish is still a bit longer than im looking for....after i get a doubler im probably redoing the whole back frame anyways, so i can move the axle back again later if driveshaft angles are a problem...for now im on a tight budget, being around 0 dollars!!! so im doing what i can do for free, to get this pig back out on the trails!!!
BTW, does anyone know what a regular cab shortbed dentside wheel base is?? im thinking about going that route instead if the numbers are right...i love shortbeds, just not SC shortbed dentsides...
130ish if I remember..... I'd have to go check for sure. I'm running close to a 145 inch wheelbase. Mine started out as a regular cab long box. I moved front axle forward around 6 inches and. The rear back about 7.5
crap, i must be remembering the wrong truck!! after reading ur numbers, i had to find my build sheets Ford sent me to confirm...both of my trucks were 133" wheelbase 4wd and 2wd..guess i was thinking about the SC when it was still intact...i was assuming this truck had a 155" WB...oops.....so then, 133"s + 3.5"s is 136.5"s, after moving my axle up ill be somewhere around 126"s and ill still be too long for a reg cab shortbed....hmmm...guess ill just stick with what i got and make her work...thanks for the link, that really helped me in my complicated thought processes...lmao
Lol. I'm out on the road, n just googled it quick on my Blackberry because it was a lot quicker n easyer than waitin to measure when I got home. Lol. Well. Hopefully it works out good for you. I love my long wheelbase though...
i really wish i left it alone and just drove it like it was!! it was a good truck then, just needed a rotor and some brakes...but leave it to me to tear things up and have alot of crap to do to finish!!just for spits and giggles here is a copy of the build sheet...
