Sitting didn`t bother it last winter but I agree that sitting for extended periods is not good for any vehicle and especially on the electrical components. I see some condensation on inside the building`s walls plus on the sides of the 05......
What all have you read/heard about 6.0`s when they`re sitting around too much, Sheldon?
Turbo vanes sticking and getting rusty from moisture getting in them is a main one. Some folks say the fuel sitting can be a problem too, since the 6 liter is a little more picky on what kind of fuel it likes.
Turbo is the main thing though. Ive also heard a few guys "develop" oil leaks from letting em sit, but havent read about that particular problem, being a problem, on FTE.
Also make sure you exercise those front hubs. They can get really hard to turn and develop vacuum leaks.
From what I found out today the front hubs main problem is usually torn/damaged seal resulting in a vacuum leak so the hubs can`t shift into the lock up position. If I correctly understood Mark, the service manager at Merlin, he indicated there weren`t many other problems with the front hubs, we`ll see in time. There is also a manual lock up as well on my 05.
Yep you got er 100 percent right. I also believe you cant order just the seal to fix it. I think you have to order the whole assembly for a hefty price, but i MAY be wrong on that one!
The manual lock up is what sticks and gets very hard to twist if you dont turn them every now and then. Most guys end up "seizing" theirs shut, and then swap them out for manual warns (great but I do like the automatic 4x4!)
Ive read a whole lot on this site about the front hubs on our trucks, and they do have their problems, its pretty common, but with proper maintenance you can prolong the life of them alot.
I have never had the automatic 4x4 selector problems.
I do cycle my truck into 4 wheel drive on occasion even if its not slippery out, just to keep all the parts moving.
I think many problems are caused by not using it for month after month.
While just driving along down the road, try just putting it into 4x4 for a minute or two, and then back into 2 wheel drive.
I like the convenience of just turning a dial with my fingers, and having 4 wheel drive.
don't grease the lock outs either. they get really hard to turn when its that cold.
i've seen diesel fuel form mold and the water settles to bottom of tank turning the fuel to a slimy mess it will plug the strainer up and filters, and very costly to fix.

Yep thats exactly what your supposed to do to keep things moving. Also reccomended of you have the manual option, to go twist it into the lock position every once in awhile to keep things moving.
