That does look good Todd. But from looking at how much of the roof your headliner covers looks like the last guy has screwed that up for me to.I'm not positive,I will have to look again, but I don't think I have enough frame to do the whole roof.I like how you added that extra light to.Where or what did you wire it in at.You can never go wrong with more light.

After looking at it,there is enough there to do the whole roof but one piece is broke and the molding that goes across the middle is only about 2/3 as long as it needs to be.But I will figure something out.

The light can be wired right to the door jamb switch or the headlight switch.

My center plastic piece is pretty busted up and I've thought about using a piece of 1/2" wide aluminum strip there or nothing. Depends how sturdy the board is once in place.

Ranger, have you posted any more pics of your crew since you posted the ones in July?I want to get my done so bad I can taste it.My problem is I don't have no room or a shop to work on it so I am trying to get everything lined up so when I start on it I won't have everything strung all over the place but for a little while( thats the plan anyway).

Well after making a trip to Lowes and measuring the OE headliner I don't know if I'll be able to find a piece big enough to make it in one piece. Measurements for the OE headliner are 61" by 53 3/4", a little to big for a 4x8 piece.

ranger429,
I had thought about the aluminum strip also, but the orginal worked back. I had to use some small self tapping screws on the edges where the two pieces meet, just in the curve to hold it up tight. Then I was able to use the original strip. I used one 4x8 sheet--cut the rear out first, then used the end for the front. It was not quite long enough, so I joined some of the scrap to make a piece long enough for the front. The patch was a section about 5" wide glued to the topside. From the bottom you can't tell it, and after covering, you never knew it was glued together.

The dome light was easy, just tapped into the wire going to the rear light. I also ran a fused wire that is hot all the time for the map lights in the same fixture.

My original trim piece in the center is pretty cracked up. It would work if I had to do 2 seperate headliner pieces but I figured one solid piece would be better and then the strip wouldn't be necessary. I don't know if I'll be able to find a piece of board big enough to do it in one piece.

Like all - my center piece is trash too. When I do the aluminum one I plan to bead roll it with an "offset" pattern to give the thing (only like .032 thick) some rigidity. I just left one piece of the aluminum longger than the other and due to the "offset" type bead roll in the thing I can overlap them easily.

I have the aluminum and have had the pattern traced on them (my front headliner was good - back was deteriorating fast) for almost a year now. One of these days I'll get to working on that part of the project again

That might be another option, it might look pretty good up there as well.

Looks like a great start. I found that formica countertop comes in a 60” wide piece and is only a 1/16” thick. I got a sample piece I'm going to try out
