I was actually going to go to the fabric store and do the same thing w/ the crew as I did w/ the s/c, it held up quite well, although I may try to replicate a lariat style headliner, I just picked one up for a s/c. did you notice that I added the mid mount interior light? It seemed to have taken out what may have been a 'sagging issue' down the line, I also plan on doing that in the crew cab, there were so many times that I neede those map lights. first I have to fill in the sun roof cut out, I actually cut the unrusted portion of roof off a '78 f350 2wd crew cab that I have for parts.
My other option is to do the trim in polished aluminum, I did a set up for my deck hatches in my boat ...that came out aweet! Maybe it would look good as headliner trim... but that is way down the line, I have to get the new...older, but in pristine shape, cab on the chassis.
I did notice the light. This location isn't very feasible in a crew though as the light would have nothing to mount to. The "map" lights you mention would work if you mount them to that center support.
As for the trim - polished aluminum would look good (I think the XLT trucks all had chrome. My 76 crew did). I am planning on powdercoating mine black though.
Thanks for the headliner pix. That helped a lot. Next. Carpet, and Door and window rubber.
Speaking of carpet - I have a custom made carpet kit out of my 74 crew that I will make someone a heck of a deal on. I am going to rhino type liner inside the cab instead of carpet so I don't need it. I've run an add in the classifieds a few times with no luck and I can't bear to just throw this carpet kit away as it is specific to these old crews.
It is a bit dirty but could get cleaned up and would look ok. I'm sure it's better than what's in a lot of the trucks out there.
Can anyone here use it? You can PM me for pics - I've got a bunch. It is a custom made (seems to be molded to the floor) kit that was VERY nicely done. It's tan and I have brown floormats (front and rear) and dash cover thing that match it. I was shocked when looking at the price LMC wanted for a carpet kit for just a standard cab truck - I can let this thing go for WAAY less if it would help out another old crew fan
i found a company that says they make a headliner that will fit in a 1973-79 crew cab ford. i dont know if anyone has posted their name on here before but just in case. the name of the company is
WLS Headliners
and their website is
wlsheadliners.com
i have not seen the headliner myself but i emailed them and they said they have one that will work for these trucks. hope this might help somebody.
oh yeah, IowaHighBoy, your truck looks great. i hope i can make mine look that good.
or as close as i can because mine is a factory f-350 dually so i will try to build a nice flatbed for it. has anyone seen the ford super-cruser beds on the f450s and 550s, and if so do you think that type of bed would look good on one of these trucks if i use 73-79 ford bed sides?
The websites sells material that glues to you existing panels. I think most of us need the panel. I did not see that on their website. If someone sees it let me know.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> What do you think?<o></o> <o></o> I could paint it gray to match the rest of the int. <o></o> <o></o> Would the 4mm be skinny enough to fit under the side rails and would it still be durable enough to not sag if I made one solid panel.<o></o>
That plastic stuff would probably work pretty well. I still think based on the contour of the inside of the roof you might need something to keep the middle up against that support rail.
For anyone close by - I have a rear headliner piece out of the truck that you can trace for a template if you don't have a stock one to work off of. Maybe I can take dimensions and draw it and save as a PDF for people if they want. It might be easier for people get a large piece of cardboard and make their own template in their own truck though.
I'm also open to parting with the stock rear headliner piece (it's been recovered) as I am making mine out of aluminum sheet.
Has anyone put speakers into the roof/headliner? My truck was stock no radio. I'd like to put in a system and would love to hear ideas about where to put the speakers.
Things to consider:
running the wires
speaker protection
monutability and safty (don't want one falling on my head at a quick stop)
I believe LMC makes a headliner like this for the standard cabs - do a search and you'll find some pics. Trying to make a back half match this headliner could be pretty difficult though.
i am suddenly having a problem with my heater in my truck. if it makes any difference it has a factory ac. when the truck is not moving the heater blows hot air out of the floor or defroster, whichver i set it on, but once the truck starts moving it blows cold air in from outside. does anyone know what is wrong with it and if so, how do i fix it? any help would be great because it is starting to get cold outside.
