Ill be racing the dodge unless something big changes. I dont know any way to pick up 1.4 seconds in the truck without doing an engine swap in it...So no making the 12.99 cut with it.
lol..humm...
I have a 400 that is .060 over (max recommended overbore is .030)
7.9:1 cast pistons
5800 pound truck
I dont know if just one thing would blow, or if id grenade pistons/blow out cylinder walls, and destroy u-joints / slip joint at the same time..lol
Maybe ill just find a cheap ranger and put my truck engine in it. 11.52 ET if every number matches up lol. Sure it would cost about $3000 to build, then id have to build another engine for my truck which would cost probabally $2200 this time..But it would be fun to get a little ole 400 in the 11's no matter what it was in.
That is a dream setup that is $1800 from Jegs, nothing that I could afford right now but I would love to have it. I think that you should leave the truck the way it is and race the Dodge. Not to many people have 14 second 5800 lb 4X4 trucks.
WOW!! Looks like you guys are doin a sweet job and worth every min. Greatest is working with your Dad. You will always remember that.

We have definately had our moments in the past 4 months. Had to take a few week break because I thought punches were going to fly. Got back on track and am learning alot from the guy that spent the late 60's and early 70's drag racing at Irwindale, Lions and Famoso.

Man, isnt that the truth. When i get to something i want suggestions about, i usually ask my stepdad or another (older) racing friend of mine.. Almost every time i ask my stepdad his opinion it ends up with both of us extremely pissed off.
Today I went in and spent about $500 at on-track for the dodge (thank you taxes). About $300 of that was for fuel fittings and fuel line, regulator, different bulkheads for the fuel cell, etc... He called it "overkill for a 12 second car" Didnt want to say anything because it was a long drive back up the mountain, lol, but it will be safe, look good, NOT LEAK, and be exactly the way i wanted it. And it might only be a 12 second car, but it will be a 12 second car with more into the fuel delivery system than in the engine!! ($300 fittings / regulator/ 1/2" aluminum feed line / 1/2" blue soft line, $120 Fuel pump, $95 fuel filter , $65 carb feed line , and $135 fuel cell)
I am hoping to spend all day tomorrow working on it.. If i do, and i do not get interrupted (right) , should just need the transmission crossmember and it will be drivable!!
My truck will stay how it is for awhile..lol..The fastest pass i have made in any actual 'race car' i have had was only 1.6 seconds faster than my truck has gone.
Are those lakewood 90/10 drag shocks avilable direct fit, or if not, what vehicle do you order them for? How hard are they to make fit? How do they act on the street?
Thanks

What are you running for a fuel pump? Sounds like the whole system should be really nice. Need to see some pictures when finished. My tax return was a disappointment so instead of paying off credit card debt I am going to by new seat belts, new venturi sleeves for the King Demon, and a Hughes clutch pack for the transmission.
The fastest pass i every made was in a Rehrer-Morrison powered 66 Nova. The guy that owns it works there and loves to let other people drive it.

Ours was a bit wobbly at about 105 mph but that should all be better now with new shocks and bushings all around.

We called lakewood and they don't seem to make a 90/10 drag race shock for 73-79 ford trucks. Go figure. So we measured the stock shocks and looked on DJM suspensions website and found a set of the lakewoods that would work with there dream beams. All we had to do was buy a new set of stock bushings for the shocks as the ones supplied were a bit small.
The shocks seem to be pretty universal as summit has them fitting 340 vehicles from these manufacturers.
Thanks for the help! I now know the suspension setup I want is complete.
What are you planning on running? I am always interested in what others are running on there street/strip ford trucks. Actually I am interested in hearing about anything related to racing/street rodding.
I am going to be running the DJM setup as well. Pretty much the same as you.... Some members pointed me that way.
I will be running a 460 in the future, with a 8-71 or equal. I am looking for around 600-750hp. Right now I am 351M and I am going to do some stuff with this just for fun.
