Just been reading this thread. What a great project this is. Good Luck an hope everything is working out for you an all this hard work will pay off. I just l;ove those old 73-79 series trucks an when somebody builds one in to a drag racer. Thats sweet. If an when you race your truck make sure you get a video up. I would just love to see it run down the track. If you get in to the 10 sec range. That would be one fast truck. I no off one truck around here a 79 was built up just like your truck. It had a hopped up 460 in it with A high performnace cam. It was put up for auction an only brought $2500.00. Ah I wish I would have bought her. Around here everybody wants 4 wd an it was a 2 wd. I still kick myself.

hey 150,
Thanks for the interest. all the hard work is about the come to fruition as the engine is being assembled next saturday and installed on sunday. Hopefully driveable by sunday night. Going to buy a camcorder with the tax return and get some video of the first fire and test drive. We decided about a year ago that there was no way to ever get our money back out of it so we made a full race truck out of it instead of street/strip. I just needed to go fully one way or the other. Talked to the engine builder yesterday and he ran some numbers and thinks it will run 11.40's with out spray. Also, planning on buying a NOS plate for a 50-100 shot of the line to run about 10.80-10.90. That is purely speculation but a guy can hope.
Today, I finished wiring the lights for the gauges, vacummed the interior and washed the windows. I also cleaned the intake and powder coated it black. Took the carb all aprt and cleaned all the funk that settles in the garage during the continuous 40-50 mph winds we have had since November. Also replaced the gaskets in the carb.
Tomorrow is all about the tranny. We were originally going to just run it the way it is(stock 1981 C6 with a B&M shift kit) but found that you can get a racing band and race frictions and steels for $300 from TCI or ATI. Figured that is good insurance. Also going to install a solid mount.
Have you read through Frank Merkls C6 thread in the General Tech section of 460ford.com? He knows how to keep a C6 alive. I installed the low ratio geat set a while back and it really helped with launching. A HD servo and lever is a plus also. Not trying to spend your money faster
Glad to here man. Man Im getting all pumped up about this truck an its not even mine. Good to here everything is going good. Glad to know your going to record the races. Cant wait to see iit run. The way the black flows from the red color on the truck looks awesome. As well as the hood scoop. The tires an all. Its definitly one off the nicest F 100s I have seen an hopefully a fast one as well. Its surprising how many off these old Fords are hotrodded like your is. Definitly a labor off love. You got to be proud off the work you have put in to the truck. Like any project it takes a lot off hard work an usually the guy that does his homework comes out on top at the end. I can hear it now fear in competitors voices. Oh man there comes that wicked fast F 100 nobody can take him yet. If I could build a hot rod truck it would definily be smilar to yours. An then I would love to build up an mid fifties F 100. Theres really a ton off people that do that two. Those fifties Ford trucks as well as the seventies have such a cult following. Hey keep us posted on when you race an how you do. Its nice to see some Ford power do some damage a the strip.

haven't read that yet but its on my to do list here soon. The transmission fix is a last minute deal and we are about $2000 over our budget as it is so I think this year the tranny is going to get a quick fix and next year we are just going to buy a Hughes or TCI C6.
I hate to move this backwards but am interested I this setup
My truck is not even close to what yours runs but still needs some help in the traction department. Are these a custom set-up or comercial? I have never seen this befor but looks like it would me a world of good. What do they cost or do you have some dementions and I can build them myself. thanks and sorry for moving the post backwards.

Always willing to digress and answers questions. All we did was remove the leaf springs and weld in a piece of 2.5x2.5 piece of tubing that is about 30" long. It is notched out to fit around the axle tube and angled on the end to limit axle rollup. The only problem with our setup was the pinion angle. The axle moved as we welded it and the angle was way funky. However it work well enough for 1.65 60 ft times.
Edit: Axle housing is currently with a friend at a swap meet so my measurements are purely estimates. If is doesn't sell I can get better, more accurate measurements.
You just left the top 2 springs and removed the rest it looks like? I can mesure mine to get the mesurements right thanks for posting these and great idea by the way that is if you don't mind me using your design

ya i think that is exactly what we did with the springs. That project was mostly my dads while I was gone at college. Seemed to work well for the 4 years that we ran that housing. The deseign is definately not patented so start building.
Hey Mwvdub, What did you do with the brace that went between the inner and outer bedside that keeps the outer bedside stiffened. I had to cut mine out when I cut to put the wheel tubs in, so I guess i'll just have to put in some bracing to keep steady. Good luck to all of you guys on Pinks All Out.

We just cut it out and rewelded it farther back of the tubs. We also had to relocate those little rods that run from the corner of the wheel well to the frame. Still kind of waiting for our sheet metal guy to cover from surgery(two invasive surgery sessions in a week) to finish up his work so we can finish ours.
Sunday morning we pulled the tranny out and put it on the stand and started to take it apart. Decided to do something more fun and powdered coated our valve covers and a few nic nacs. The valve covers are the polished aluminum FRPP ones. Forgot my camera so pics to come soon.
A friend came over and we decided to take the engine over to his shop to assemble it since it is much cleaner. Also ordered ARP head studs and felpro gaskets so we can put the 514 together this weekend.
did a little more messing around with mine, Wet tested the fuel system and no leaks at all!!
Now main things i have to do are just wire in cooling fan, build transmission crossmember, and permanently mount fuel cell and its ready for the road test.
Gonna try to have it road worthly by valentines day as a little surprise for the girlfriend and take her for a ride in it (if it stops snowing hard).

The Victor intake and valve covers are powder coated Mirror Black. WE masked off the tops of the Valve Covers so they are still shiny aluminum up there.
