On Saturday, we had a friend come over with his wire feed and finish welding the roll cage. It is finished up now. Also started wiring the new dash.
Today, we finished the dash, reattached the shifter and tower, installed the new tach and sand blasted the intake and headers to get ready for powder coat. Had to quit early to watch the Giants win the super bowl.
Did you buy that ticket or win it from 106.7 KBPI? Just curious since they were giving away admission tickets all week. One day they had a burnout contest for tickets, I think a guy driving an F550 Service Truck won.
Looking good so far.... Are you going to need the bars that go thru the back of the cab and into the frame rails behind the cab??
I was wondering too, what size tire you are going to be running in the rear?
I hope we don't need those bars. I really don't think the truck will be that fast at first so we are going to leave it for now. The rear tires are huge, 33X15X15 eagles with 5.13 gears. Not much traction with 12 wides on a mediocre track so we upgraded and almost stole them off ebay. The seller had the bolt pattern listed as 5X5.5 so we bought them after the auction had ended. Turns out centerline doesn't make 5X5.5 convo pros and they are 5X5 so we are running Chevy bolt pattern. Bought the tires and wheel brand new for $700 plus shipping.

Josh
My dad bought the ticket. Not sure how he pulled it off since so many things went wrong when he was registering and the online turnout to buy them was insane.
MWVDUB, with the 33's and 5:13 gears what rpm do you think you'll be at at the end of the track? I've got to finish the second driveshaft hoop at the carrier bearing so I can run at the track this year and with 35's I'm trying to sort what rpm I'll be at at. Any shots of how you tied your cage into the frame? Thanks.
I dont know what RPM he will be at. But a 33" tall tire will only make 152 full revolutions to travel 1320'.I think..if i did my math right..which i may not have.
But with a 5.13 gear...a 33" tall tire, and a speed of 130 MPH and a final transmission gear ratio of 1:1 you would be at 6790 RPM. 130 seems to be 10 second MPH.
If you drop that down to 110 MPH which can be anywhere from a mid 12 second car, to a high 11 second car the engine will still be turning 5746 RPM.
Ohh, mwvdub, whatever you do DO NOT TRY TO transfer the ticket from your dad to you!! if you try to do that the ticket will be voided automatically!!
What you might want to do is call bandimere, and talk to Jeff Sipes. Or have your dad call him. You can let him know that your dad bought you a ticket as a brthday present, and the first time he tried, it would not let him put in your name with his credit card...a 'theft prevention' thing on his credit card. Ask him if there is any way you can race on your dads ticket...since it was a present to you.Everyone at BAndimere is easy going, and there may be a chance of getting it straightened out for you to drive with his ticket as long as they know you arent trying to 'pull anything over' on them.
Also, there is NO waiting list for Pinks entries. There are about 100 RACER tickets still available, but these will not be sold. They will be handed out at race events, and by 106.7 KBPI, a local radio station.

I think that ColoFord has it nailed. We were hoping to shift at about 6200-6500 since we now have h-beam rods. Talked to several machinists and they seem to think that 7000 is pretty safe and 6500 will last a long time.
For pictures this is the best I can find right now. It shows how the angled bars attach from the main hoop to the frame. We also used some of the 2X3 rectangular tubing used as the ladder bar front bar to tie the 4X4 plates to the frame.

He misread the website and thought It said that tickets could be transfered so he didn't really worry about it. I showed him that it clearly states that they are nontransferable and nonrefundable so we need to call.
Talked to a guy today while getting tires and sponser decals and he also got a ticket for pinks. Started talking with him a bit and he has a firebird of unknown year with a 455. I was interested to know how fast it was and he said it goes 140. I thought damn thats fast for the 1/4 and he said that he didn;t know how fast it was in the 1/4 but he knew it goes 140 top end and that he has never drag raced before. That is when the conversation stopped.

I can tell you that with anything more than a 50HP shot of nitrous, you will spin even those 35's off the line. Unless you are running in 4x4. Its expensive, and takes away from the look of a lifted truck, but DOT approived slicks, or all out drag slicks make an incredible change in your first 60' and 330' of the track.
2 years ago, i was at the 2nd test and tune of the year in my truck...It was spinning, and spinning, and spinning alll day off the line. Finally about half the way thru the day i went to a local shop , bought 2 used steel wheels for the back of the truck, and 2 brand new DOT slicks, stomped them onto the wheels, went by a tire shop had them air them up, went back to the track, threw them on my truck and have been running those slicks every time i race since!

Ya, I am thinking that the firdbird guy never read the rules about your ride having to be 12.99 or faster. I would think that since there is going to be TV exposure that anyone should want to sponser that. Are you going to race your truck or the Dodge? If the Dodge you should talk to a dealership.
Our sponser is Fat Boys Tire and Auto. They sent us some nice new trailer tires that we needed badly since we couldn't load the truck on the trailer after we lowered it.

Ill be racing the dodge unless something big changes. I dont know any way to pick up 1.4 seconds in the truck without doing an engine swap in it...So no making the 12.99 cut with it.
