I think the only vehicles allowed to weld the roll bar or roll cage to plates, and attach the plates to the body of the vehicle are uni-body cars????

The kit we got from Chris Alston comes with 1 5/8" tubes that run diagonally from the main hoop down through the floor and weld to the top of the frame. Additionally, we are going to sandwich the floor pan as suggested and use either a piece of the roll cage or a left over piece of the front ladder bar mount (2X3 rectangular tubing) to weld the bottom plate to the frame. So the cage will be welded to the frame in four spots. I hope this will also help stiffen up everything and help transfer weight and power better.

The picture of the cage was just shown to give an idea of what the interior looks like now. It is far from complete and we just worked on it one afternoon after we got sick of welding the ladder bars.

Any pictures would be great. I searched for some but it seems that not to many people install cages in 1979 ford trucks or just don't want to share pictures.

I will try and take some pics of the "in progress" cage in my crewcab in the next few days. My frame connectors will be designed very similar to the ones in the pics exept no notch and I'm using some 2" poly bushings where it connects to the cab for a little flex. ( long 4-wheel drives flex a little more than most trucks)
What did he paint/coat the bottom/underneath of the truck with?

Wow that is a sweet pro street ford. I really like the stance and the cowl hood. Thanks for the pictures.

That cowl hood was a nightmare for him. Supplier was out in CA, first hood arrives in two pieces. After more money and time a second one is layed up and shipped, the body shop almost cried when they saw it because it needed so much work. Get it straight, shot the paint and the first time the motor ran and warmed up the fiberglass strands started to come up through. Shutdown and cool down and everything looks good again. Back to the body shop, strip the hood of paint and gel coat only to see tons of body filler for the cowl section. The hood is properly fiberglassed, prepared and finally painted, again. An already pricey hood became very expensive!

I dont think there are a whole bunch of 79 ford trucks that actually need a roll cage...lol...

I have always wanted to build a 10 second 73-79 ford truck. Only catch is i want to build a 10 second 4x4 73-79 ford truck. Maybe if i win the lotto ( could probabally build 2-3 10 second 2wd trucks for what it would cost to put a 4x4 in the 10's)

I ran across an ad on Racing Junk where the guys first truck was a 6000 pound 1949 4x4 that was running something like 9.50. I can't even imagine the amount of money and motor needed to accomplish that.

Edit: found the website http://www.backnblackpromod.com/ about half way down

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, took a while for my friend and I to get our schedules to match. The upper paint is a one off RM base and clear they mixed up, the underside of the truck is RM black enamel, chosen because it's a summer driver.

The dream beams are the best way to go in my opinion. I ordered mine from Summit because of the free shipping. Post up some pictures and keep us updated.

Cool, thanks. It looked like a glossy undercoating type material rather than paint in the pics.

I have the ladder bars and coilovers in the rear done. Now i just have to get it lower and make room for some big tires in the back. Your trucks stance is what I want mine to look like. Then I will have to learn how to get pics off the digital camera and do something with them.

I just now noticed you guys are in Wyoming.. If you ever come into denver to race at Bandimere, and want a group of racers to hang out with while you are at the track / in town let me know. Im at Bandimere pretty much every friday, saturday, and special event sunday during racing season.

I think we are going to try and get up to Julesburg again this year..When we pick the day were going to go up there, ill let you know, incase you guys want to get out and race on the same day.

When it comes time to build your driveshaft give these guys a try, if you want it done in denver. Front Range Driveline. They are just south of HWY 285 (hampden) on Federal Blvd. The shop is operated by a very successful and respected racing family from Colorado. They do great work, and after the work they have done for me, i wouldnt recommend anyone else!!
