That is exactly what I am thinking. What am I looking at for price for a ZF 5 speed? This is new territory for me but sounds like a lot of fun.

as ready as I will ever be. Our carburetor is still at barry grant so we are running an 895 instead of the 1195. Got all loaded up on sunday and plan on heading out tomorrow morning at 11. Going to stay at some Holiday Inn on Colfax. I heard on KBPI that there were people there waiting on Tuesday.

Are you going to spray it. The All Out that just passed in Raceway Park, NJ was between a 10.50 and a 9.90 field and they choose 9.90. I think my avearge was 11.20 which was a little off but even if I got picked they would have thrown me out for no safety equipment

no spray. don't have it installed and the carb issues still scare me enough to stay away from it for a while. Just hoping to run 12.00 and have a good time. What was the tech inspection like? we should be good but we run at a small town track that doesn't look at much.

I told him my truck ran 12.50s and he asked if I had nitrous and I said no Then if you made it to the final 16 they teched your car for real. My buddy made it to the 16 with a coupe mustang with a 408 and they seen he didn't have the chassis certified and no window net or gloves and they almost didn't let him race. They gave him a temporary chassis certification and he jumped the first race anyway, lol. The tech inspection is still at the tracks discretion but if Pinks wants them to run they will let it slide. They don't look at much at 12.0s anyway. Good luck.

I wonder why? Tickets can be purchased both online and at the Bandimere ticket office early.

I think after seeing how your truck is built, you will be fine for tech at Bandimere.

Good luck! I was planning on going (spectator), and still might try if I can work out some scheduling conflicts. If I do, I'll find you and introduce ourselves.

I would not expect to make a pass down the track with out being teched. Every track I have been to will make you go through teck first, and if you don't meet the rules you won’t be allowed to make a pass. If the track is IHRA or NHRA sanctioned it will be a little tougher because of the treat of loosing their insurance. But look in both rule books and you will see a quote "It’s the racer's is responsibility to make sure the vehicle meets all the rules."

Besides why would you race with out meeting the rules, they are there for a reason and that is your safety not just to give you a hard time. I always see people arguing with the tech inspectors over widely crap. I also see guys that spent 15,000 bucks in motor and won’t buy 100 bucks worth of safety equipment. Maybe is because I drive my car but I don’t skimp on safety, my car runs tens but will tech to 8.00 if not less. That’s my rant for the night.

Thats cool that you knew some people that made the 16 car field. We had to drive too far to a track that we raced at once a long time ago.

We don't have any sort of chassis cert but up to 11.50 all you need is a roll bar anyway. I think it should tech fine beacuse everything is basically new.

If you come out we ended up with double tickets so we have 6 tickets for tomorrow and 9 more saturday if you need a couple.

I am not concerned about anything, i am just not used to anyone looking at with any real attention. Definetely not skimping on anything safety considering we are driving a truck that gets real light at 110 mph. it has long wheel studs, three driveline loops, ladder bar safety straps, 5 point harness bought last month, good helmet and fire suit, fire extinguisher, 10 point roll cage tied to the frame, neutral safety switch, puke tank, and all the other goodys.

Looks like they picked a 12.00 class, from my observations, but everyone picked for the class had to run for their spot against a 12.10 - 12.20 car.

Nice runs though. 12.29 is not too bad up on the hill. The Brown truck ran prety good too, 12.58 on the pass i got to see.

I blew the dodge up on thursday trying to fine tune in the nitrous on the street lol..oops. looks like they picked the class i was shooting for too. Ill learn next time to build a ford engine for it.

i ran a damn 12.22 the first pass on saturday and they picked a car next to us that ran a 12.15. so close. the 1195 would have got us in i think. oh well i had a great time and would do it again in a second. I wrote a little note on the side of the truck and got the attention on the pit area tv crew and got a big interview. should make the tv show I hope.

We failed tech the first time but it was not with anything i though it would be. the kid was kind of an idiot and took a lot of what i said as truth. We don't have a scatter shield for the trans but as far as I can tell I don't need one as I have a SFI flywheel. He gave me a little grief for that. He asked about the batteries and learned that they were in the back so he needed to test the kill switch. Well the kill switch does not work. it kills the batteries but the alternator makes enough juice to keep the truck running with the switch off. a little quick thinking, a disconnected one wire alternator and a second time tech inspection later we got our free t shirt and picture taken and made the show. I thought is was crazy that a lot of the stuff he just asked about.

Here is how the conversation went...

Tech guy: is the battery still in the stock location
me: no they are in the back of the box.
TG: can you jump in real quick and start it
me: ya
me: starts the truck
TG: waves arms wildly as truck continues to run
TG: not to be an a-hole but if something happens to you vehicle it is my a$$ if you get hurt. We have wiring diagrams down in the tech shack. Not to be an a-hole but can you sign here showing that I failed your vehicle.
ME: do you have a wiring diagram for a 79 f100 with a 460 that had a 300 with msd ignition and painless wiring kit with a chevy one wire alternator.
TG: dirty look and asks me to sign the paper.
ME: snickers inside and signs the paper.
Dad and Curtis(pit crew) over phone: just unhook the alternator. it won't charge but it will kill the truck.
Me: hey TG i fixed the switch.
TG: ok get in and start it again. when you start it, get out and come stand next to me because I don't think you fixed it.
Truck: dies when switch turns to off.
TG: well what was wrong and show me what you did.
ME: lays under truck and starts talking about all the wires and how one wiggled loose.
TG: looks good, do you have a drive line loop
ME: yes it has two. The whole time I am thinking why is TG not looking at any of these things that he is asking me about.

He took my word for a lot of things. Nothing I lied about but many of the things he looked at were not that important and the things he took my word for were serious safety issues. For instance he never looked under the hood at all. as far as he knows we don't have throttle return springs or a puke tank. I know they were trying to tech 476 cars and get everyone two practice runs on friday but i thought for sure he would look at the driveline and under the hood.

If they do a third season of PINKS All OUT i will probably try to get to another event. i have a different view of Rich C. now. He is a huge ego maniac and does things his way but the speech he gave at the drivers meeting showed me that he really cares about the sport and wants to show people that it can be and is a fun family sport that can teach you life leasons and be a lot of fun.

If you want to keep the alternator hooked up take the one wire and move it to the positive battery post or the battery side of the kill switch so that when the switch is off it cuts all juice to the motor.

Rich is comming to tulsa with his arm drop live. More cars and the same amount of money, Hope to make the field.
