Started working on the old girl again. We mocked up some fenderwell headers that are currently being built in Michigan. Also ordered a new flexplate, intake gasket to replace to leaky one and new plumbing for the crankcase evacuation. Still need to figure out the carburetor and get a generator.
The headers will require moving or replacing all the brake lines on the drivers side and re-plumbing the fuel on the drivers side.
Not doing much to the truck this year as I am still broke from last year and the truck is pretty solid over all.
Sounds like a plan. Can't wait to see some new pics and hear about what the headers do for your times I did alittle to my F-100 but nothing that can be seen so it looks like I haven't even touched it Have been thinking about doing a frame swap with a Crown Vic. Seen a thread on here about it and it looks pretty good, and should drop a pound or two.I did buy a Falcon but it is a 64 like the one I had in high school so that has taken up most of my time.
Mwvdub Was the 4 link from chassis works custom or do they have them for the trucks? I did not find it on their website
I bought the entire rear suspension as a kit that included the ladder bars, the tracklocator, front crossmember, upper and lower shock mounts and the coilovers. The kit lets you choose which coilovers and ladder bars you want. I went with the 36" Pro Street adjustable bars. They are part number 6229. They are not specifically made for trucks but they were the longest ones I could find and I was in Sacremento so shipping was free.
I am thinking about putting a 4 link in my 79. Which model or part number suspension did you use? I got the ladder number what about the rest? I have been reading and watching your post with some great interest as I am building a 79 for similar use. How has the 4 link worked for you compared to the stock suspension.
I used the Single adjustment Varishock coilovers. Not sure on the part number right now. I will find it when I get back home and away from dial up. It's hard to tell on what the improvement from just the suspension since we did so many other things last year. It is lower, new motor, new tranny, etc. The only thing for sure is that it handles a lot better with the stiffer suspension and the cage.
Re plumbed the brake lines and cut out for the new headers this weekend. Also got the new SFI flexplate installed and set the motor back in. All we need is the new carb and the new headers to come in.
Thanks for the info mwvdub!! What was the kit # you bought. I would like any information on that last truck pic you posted interested in building same front clip set up as the one shown!! SWEET
The coilovers are the QuickSet 1 part number VAS 11122-350. the front clip is the GT500 front from US Body. it comes with everything you need to mount the clip but nothing for bump stops or fasteners to hold it down. Lots of fabrication required.
I didn't read through the entire thread so I'm sure I missed it, but what sort of power do you have to make to get such a big heavy truck into the 10.'s? And what sort of trap speeds are you look at? I have been drag racing for sometime but have never done it with a big cube motor. Blown and built 3.8 and now I have a built 2.0l making just under 500awhp. I made my first pass on racegas and went 11.5@120 (video YouTube - All Aspects 02 WRX Wagon. 11.5@120 ej205 ) barely trying at all... next pass, tranny let go but I'm sure it has a 10.xx in it at 125+. I would LOVE to get me truck to move like that but my wife would kill me. My Subaru never runs as is... she would not condone having two vehicles in the garage for the track only and broken 9 months out of the year, lol. I sure would love to hear this 460 with a .600 lift cam tho. 200 shot maybe....

I would guess that once I get everything tuned right, the motor should be making upwards of 700-750 HP at the crank. I have never made a 10 second pass or even that close really but we are getting there. The first day out it ran 13.25 at 97, 12.46 at 105, 12.31 at 103, 13.33 at 88 (hard on the brakes for eliminations) and 12.18 at 100. After a lot of fooling with the carb and timing it ran a best of 11.86 at 113.
We spent the majority of the year working the kinks out and they never really went away. The catb was used and it turned out to be a piece of junk. I sent it back to the manufacturer twice to fix the fuel leaks and they couldn't fix it. We had a fire under the hood one day and fried most of the wiring. we had to do a gear change after the first day so the it would quit bouncing off the rev limiter at the 8th mile. All of these problems came after all the motor assembly ploblems...ported heads that leaked into the cylinders, 3 sets of pushrods for two different sets of heads, pistons mounted on rods backwards, re balancing parts, etc.
The new Pro Systems dominator should be delivered the 11th and the headers were started yesterday. I think a carb built for the motor/vehicle combo and better breathing headers should take a few tenths off. Hoping to run 11.30-11.40's on motor and tens at Famoso in September in the good california air.
I have a video of it firing for the first time last year and a video from pinks.
I got the new carb for my truck last week. We also got all the lights figured out. It seems the foot dimmer switch was partially engaged which was sending a week signal out and confusing everything. Got the switch fixed and everything works great now except the backup lights but I am OK with that. I just need to pick up a left tail light lens and it will be street legal again.
Also picked up a new grill shell and headlight buckets yesterday. They are aftermarket Chinese, but I can't afford a $550 OEM shell. I am just going to paint it black anyway.
Looks like all we need is headers and it will be race ready. The first set is supposed to be shipped by March 1st.

Sounds good. Im glad your putting it back on the street. It seems all the fast trucks are drag only even if they don't have to be. I like the reaction you get when you pull up at Mcdonalds or the bank with a badass pick-up. Makes you feel good
