I have 20 thousand miles on my 08 cc with 3.73 i get 17 mpg average hwy at 65mpg and 9 mpg hauling my 40 foot open road fifth wheel . once the truck got about 15 thousand miles i gained about 4 miles to the gallon more, give you truck a chance to break in milage will go up.
If you figure a 1000 mile trip at 7.5 verses 12mpg at 3.00 per gal it costs $150 more if you did 5000 miles a year towing thats $750 more to tow. When you have a $50,000 truck and enjoy it then the $150 more for the 1000 miles isn't really that big of deal when you really think about it, Just my two cents worth( or $150 worth)
Its not, I'm just stating when you look at the big picture and compare to other things it just seems sad that a vehicle the size of a 45' Coach pulling a 20k lb trailer can probably out do it in MPG with tons more HP and TQ. Hell, the engine in the coach is Detriot Diesel Series 60 (14Liters of displacement) with 500hp and 1650tq. Thats over double the displacement of the 450 with nearly the same mileage.
Either way I dont care, its just for discussion more than anything. We purchased the truck cause of its capabilies, not its economy.
Also on Prevosts site they show the 07's coming with a DPF filter. So dunno what thats going to do to the whole deal on them. Gotta be a pretty damn big filter I'd assume.
In my opinion I believe that regardless of the weight it is more the rpms that are hurting mpg at 60mph you were probably running 2200 rpms, with 4.30s I run 1950 rpms 4.10s run about 1850. All 3 vehicles towing say 15,000 are going to pull it with about the same power, just the 4.88s are going to be revving higher, especially when it downshifts going up a hill to 4th gear, at 60 will run about 3,000 rpms? that will really eat up the fuel.
If your truck has 4.88s and it needs to downshift into 4th. gear going up a hill, a similar truck pulling the same load with 4.10s or 4.30s will likely be downshifting into 3rd. gear so what have you gained?

Can't say for sure yet, but I don't think 4.30's pulling the same hill with say 18,000#, would down shift to 3rd. that would be 3250 rpms at 44mph verses 4th gear 2900rpms at 60 mph. I just think the 4.30's would down shift sooner. But then you get 22,000# on a real steep hill, you would right for sure. Like I said I'm not for sure. I bet there are others that might know for sure.

That is amazing!!! Are you are claiming a 30% increase in fuel mileage!!!!!
Its quite doubtful other than your driving habits that may effect it that much!
I have had 8 or 9 brand new trucks and none have increased more than 10% in fuel mileage as they "broke in" and of those several are diesels.

I would think that Orions high mileage is due to the amount of highway driving he is doing verses the average person. A lot more than myself. 9mph towing I would say is the average that some of us would get with 3.73’s, I’m hoping to get that with my 4.30’s but that might be wishing a lot. 17 on the highway with 3.73’s with a 250 or 350 SRW I think would be possible with perfect conditions. 65mph he would be running less than 2,000 rpms. That is amazing he has 20,000 miles, so therefore a lot of highway miles. Probably less than 5% of super duty owner with ever see that magic number.
I'm not doubting the mileage I'm doubting the fact that he is claiming a 4mpg increase. The trucks with 3.73's should get in the 17-18mpg range on the hwy. You will not see an increase in any vehicle of 30% when it is "broke in"
How much does the regen cycle hurt the mileage? There's a possiblity that the truck when new went through the typical regen process which hurt his mileage. The amount of highway time he's spent putting on those kind of miles may limit the regen so it doesn't affect his mileage as bad. I've never seen more than a 14% increase after break in, but I've never had this emissions package either.

I found Regen drops it only about 2 tenths on the tank. your right he probably ran some shorter miles with the first couple of tanks and had a regen. Probably put his foot in it a few times to see what it would do. Sat and idled a bit more in the cold. Also had the winter blend to start with. That would affect it more than how he is running now. I'd like to see mine increase just 14% once broken in. That would be 2 mpg, oh ya!
Just made a 900 mile trip, averaged 17.2 on the last tank. I now have 1175 miles on it and was averaging 70 mph. This was calculated with both the lie o meter and with a calculator. The mpg got better with every tank.
I have now had my '03 F350 Crew cab 6.4L with the 4.30 rear for 2 months. I do mostly 50 mph 2 lanes with the occasional pass and a few lights, plus some heavy afternoon stop and go. I've got 4995 miles as of this morning, and I am getting 14.6 consistently - both on the gauge and when I calculate by hand (give or take a couple of tenths). So far no towing - this is just the vehicle itself and maybe some light cargo in the bed, plus an aluminum tonneau cover.

sorry but I am calling BS on those mpgs theres no way a dually with 430 gears is getting over 12 mpg, and to take it futher I dont believe those claiming 16 or 17 either I know 5 guys with the new 6.4 250 4x4 cc 373 gears and they are getting 8 to 10 mpg combined and I know 2 with 450 and they love the truck but they are only getting 6 to 10 mph and they know how to figure the mpgs and they dont work for ford either.
