Returned from Ky, with a stop in Smokey Mtn National Park, and got 15.6 mpg on I-75 running @ 80 mph with no load. When I was doing 72 on cruise I was getting almost 18 mpg!!! I am very happy with my 250 4X4 and am not sure why people complain about them, but to each their own.
Hi michaeloac, you are probably one of the lucky guys that are running 3.73's with the lighter truck. Or do you work for Ford like Tn mac thinks(ha ha)
TIM
that is the way it seems to me some time, and again that is my opinion, there is no need to can me a liar, I think I am allowed to have an opinion. and if you look at the post where I called the mpgs BS I believe it was someone who was claiming high mpgs with a 450 with 430 or 488 gears and they were claiming 17 mpgs and there is no way at 65 or 70. I dont know how many miles you have driven your diesels but I have over 600k so I do know a little, you may get great mpgs out of your duallie but it would be hard to believe you drive it normal and get those kind of mpgs. It may be possible if you kept it under 1500 rpms but that is below granny driving style. I dont hammer on mine I but I do use it as a work truck and it wont get 14 on the highway empty driving 55 so thats why I have a hard time with the numbers many post and I know alot of contractors who have 6.4 that love everything about the truck except the mpgs. and that is the truth you can believe it or not but as you see therte are those who feel the mpgs are not right. and there will be more as the engine starts having more problems do to the heat and poor design and placement of the engine components. we will then see if ford will step up to the plate and take care of there customers or if it will be 6.0 all over again, time will tell.
To the members of this forum and the 6oh, I apologize for someone like TnMac that should have been gone a long time ago, (opinuions are one thing and yes we like them) however, I have and you all have put up with his crap and continued distaste for the 6oh andany other 6 anything Ford produced, I know he had issues with his....and well…. so did I, big ones the difference is I moved on...now Bruce is moving on too.
We at Ford Truck Enthusiasts have never and will never pay anyone to post, to ensure the 6.4 sells, nor is there any Ford Employee post padding here. We are not connected to Ford. This was the issue with Bruce.
Now let’s move on with what we like talking about, our trucks and solving issues with them.
Members paid to post....Ford employee post padding. Accusations such as that (opinions or not) are degrading and border on defamation of site character, IMO. As a site member for over 3 years I take personal offense to the inference.
I know Tim well enough that I can assure all that the removal of tn mac was not taken lightly.
As most know, I have never been a "company man" even as a moderator...but, it is time to end tn mac's journey here.
With that said, I wish him much luck and will miss the verbal fist-a-cuffs I enjoyed with him in the past.
Hey Firehawk198, you are right, I have a 250 with the 373. Maybe I'm in lala land, but I do expect the mileage to get better, but if not, I'm still very happy.
tn mac must be fun to be around, he always looks for the "positives" in life. We can all be a victim, or we can choose to accept life as a great adventure and even appreciate the bad days for it makes us appreciate the good ones!!!
I have an 08 350 cc short w/ 6.4. 11,000 mi and all I can get empty is 10-11, towing my 6000# trailer it gets 6-8, in town no load it gets 6-9. I want my 6.0 back. I have 35 " tires (speedo fixed at ford dealer), as well as a tonneau cover. this truck gets 30-40% worse than my '06 with same tires. I hope the guy is right about 3-4 increase at 15000 mi. This is getting expensive. 2 friends of mine bought 6.4's the same day as me (2/17/07) and they just traded them in for 07 dodge 5.9's. They were pissed. Also last night I pulled my trailer up Parley's summit between Salt Lake & Park City Utah. (10% grade) It ran perfect until I hit the steep part and it shut off cruise, went down to 5mpg and 45 mpg all within about 200 yards of the bottom. My theory is that the canyon is long enough(15-20 mi) that it goes into regen before I can really use the power. This da*n thing needs a regen light on the dash. I 'm going to get killed trying to pass with this. It goes like a GT500 & then morphs into a 10 yr old Buick when you need the juice. Nice interior though. Today for fun I drove down the same grade & back up. I tried to keep out of it to avoid regen and it worked, unfortunatly I started at the bottom of the grade not the bottom of the canyon.

Did you go with 4.30's or 4.10's from 3.73's on your 6.0?
I can tell you, these MPG numbers sound very disappointing. I am on the fence now about buying the new 6.4. My V10 is getting around 9MPG's and it sounds like going to the 6.4 Diesel won't change much other than dropping $54K to get a dually and King Ranch. Now I am not sure if I should buy or not.

Wow, sounds like the mileage of a 4.30 will the hill climbing ability of a 3.73.
I have an '08 6.4 F350 4.10 dually 4x4 with only 5,000 miles (no modifications) but I get 13.5 MPG empty (for me that's 9,000 lbs with the family) on the freeway at 70 MPH on cruise. Pulling my 10,000 lb (GCVW = 19,000 lbs) fiver I get 9.5 MPG on the highway with cruise set at 60 MPH. I've never hit a 10% grade towing, but I can say that on a long 7% grade, I've not had to take it out of cruise.

Thanks for posting. I miss my 6.0, too. I thought I was going crazy and was the only one that's heart sick from buying the '08 4.6. I can get 14.5 if I really baby it and keep the boost under 2 with no load. But just put a small load on it and the mpg's drop to 5-6 mpg. I got 6 mpg going from Colorado Springs to Albuquerque with only a quad on a small trailer. No passing gear and it drops out of cruise right away on any kind of moderately steep hill. I'm seriously considering taking the bite and trading for a REAL truck. Maybe an '06 King Ranch with low miles. I'll bet they're hard to find now. Truth is, I never drove anything but Fords until now and always loved my trucks. I never even considered test driving a Dodge or Chevy or whatever. I've gone from "Hooked on Ford" to "Lost in truck land". Like you, I love the looks and the interior of the new '08, but the mpg's ruin my mood every time I have to stop at the pumps. I REALLY want to like this truck. It's the first one I paid cash for. Now I may be looking at losing a big chunk to have a truck I CAN really like.
2008 F-250 Lariat package single axle 3.73 I have been getting 13.5 MPG on paper around town with about 1000mi on the clock so far. But have been keeping the revs up. I will try being more careful and see if I can squeeze another few miles per out of a gallon of fuel.

Nipperdog, is your single axle a DRW or a SRW 2 wheel drive?
Wow, now I don't feel so bad. My '08 4x4 CC gets around 10-11 mpg empty with 35" BFG T/A's. SRW w/3.73 rearend. Dealer corrected speedo for the larger tires. Had the recall done about a month ago and I think it ran better before the new program. Love the truck, hate the mpg's.
My brother's '08 gets around 12 mpg's.
Drove my 2000 Superduty to SLC in March and did 500 miles on 28 gallons. This would only be a pipe dream with the new one.
