Hi, I'm a new member from Phoenix. Well I have an 02 GMC Yukon 4x4 that I am thinking of trading in on an 08 Expedition XLT 4x4. Reading about all these transmission problems is making me hope I am doing the right thing. My Yukon looks like new and has no current problems. Although in the past I've had problems with the four wheel drive on my Yukon and with the fuel injectors. I had one of the first 97 Expeditions for five years and did not have any major problems with it. I hope Ford fixes the problem for you guys and hopefully the 08 will not have this issue.

.................before you buy one , "RENT" one for the weekend and if you like it take the one you like at your dealer for a couple hour's test drive,IF that one has any issue's find anouther one and drive that one,I have an 2007 and have NOT had any of the issue's posted on here,BUT DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you buy, that goes for any "BRAND", anyone can get a lemon, make sure your not the one getting one, think about how many they have made and the %age of issues reported and the # is vary low.
That is some good advice but in my situation I have had the vehicle for 4 weeks and the problem just popped up so he still may get one with an issue like I did. Mind you I have not had anything happen since sat. evening so it is not very often I am dealing with this. I also have an EL and I was wondering how many folks with ELs are having this trouble? Would it be seen more or less on ELs as they are pigs...8100lbs. I wonder if the tranny is working harder? Who knows but it might be a good idea if someone(moderator) could set up a post where we could report this issue and what model standard or EL and see what comes of it. It might be very telling after a few months.
I wish I knew the long term effects of what our problems will do to the transmission life, but at least powertrain in warrantied for 5 yrs or 60,000 miles.

Thanks for the tips, but I think I'll have to order one because I don't think I'll find one on the lots that has what I want. We do have alot of Ford dealers here but here is what I'm thinking of buying (hard to find probably). 08 XLT 4x4 without third row seat (don't need it at all), trailer tow package, power moonroof, cloth seats (front captains, 2nd row bench), and 3.73 axle. Color - Pueble Gold with Camel interior. It just seems from searching local dealer's lots on line that no one has this. They seem to put alot of stuff on these vehicles that I don't want (satelite radio, DVD systems, navigation systems etc.). I just want a strong vehicle with the off road basics. So I'll be stuck and hoping the one I order does not have the trans problem. You'd think Ford would have figured it out by now! I had to order a Mustang in 05 and it has had no problems at all. So maybe my luck will continue. I had one of the original Expeditions in 1997 and had almost no problems for five years. It was a great vehicle!
I have not seen any like what you want. I think the 3rd is now standard. It seems when they optioned the dealer goes full bore or just an option or two. Good Luck but I agree with you that you will be ordering the vehicle you want. I just hope you can get it as you want it.

Well if I have to get the third row seat, I will, as long as it folds totally flat to the floor. I need room for my two cocker Spaniels on road trips! I'm assuming that when you fold the second and third row seat down, it is totally flat like the bed of a truck. With our current Yukon, when we go off roading with our dogs, they get to roam the whole back of the vehicle. I need to actually get out and look at some 08 Expeditions soon.

...............Our's has the power fold 3ed row and it fold's flat,if that will work for you,you may find some thing close to what your looking for on the dealer lot, also if you can keep the yukon several more month's two thing's may happen, you will get a better price later in the model run and you will get a later build date, give them time to get the bug's worked out(maybe),our's has been 100 %(no bug's) and were going on 20,000 mile's with our 2007,one thing I see with our's,the tailpipe is sooooo clean inside it look's like galevinised pipe, some ford's and most all the chevy's I see are all carboned up(black) inside like my diesel pickup, any idea's way some are soooo dirty?????.
You guy's with tran's issues may find this interesting, slide over to pickuptruck.com and read about toyota's issue's with their 6 speed auto tran's,ford does not have the market cornered with tran's issues!!!!!!!!!!!.it's under tundra's tranny's hit rough patch,BTW toyota has a diesel 1 ton dullie 4 door with an 8 liter motor and 22.5 inch wheel's called the crew max FWIW, click on the sema link and scroll down. I forgot, click on tundra solutions .com link and you will get a page just like the one we have here, after reading this you may feel a little better,at least you can drive your's and the best part, one guy got a "FORD" loaner, was he pi#$%d off.
good lord, they are up to 26 page's on tran's issue's,we only have 9 here and talk about being uncivil, they almost got in a fit fight over there on that 'FORD' loaner
2007 Toyota transmission problems and broken camshafts, ($5000 for a new engine) plus not too good in crash tests.
Ok, now I feel better about my 07 Expedition and it's problems.

Nice to see it hits everyone but it is also sad to see it. I hope Ford gets this issue solved soon. Then we can read about it but it won't be our issue any longer..just theirs.

I've surfed many of these message boards for yrs and this is the ONLY forum that I have found that even has a thread about these transmission problems...
from my experiance, there are plenty of folks who go surfing the netwhen they have a problem, and post threads about them, while there are many thousands who have zero problems and thus do not even venture out into the web for Ford Expedition related issues.
Moral, don't let this thread get you over excited, if you have driven and like the '08 Expy, buy it. If you think you are going to exceed the mileage and/or calander limits of the standard warrenty, you can always consider buying an extended warrenty or haggling with the dealer to include one.
Petrol,
You make a valid point. When my 04 PSD came out, I was leary about all the hype of the 04 problems including transmission issues. Ford fixed my tranny before I had problems. I had one sensor go out which turned out to be a minor issue. Other than that I love my truck and all my other Ford products. I went over to the Chevy site and read all the horrible post about fuel injectors and other issues in much the same way folks post here. There is no perfect vehicle. Mechanical products have mechanical failures from time to time. I hope I enjoy my new 07 Expy like you other good people.
Yeah I'm thinking of trading in my 02 Yukon for the 08 Expy. I did have fuel injector problems with the Yukon while on vacation (about an $800 repair bill at a dealer in Boise) and it also had four wheel drive problems that were fixed under warranty. So there probably is no perfect vehicle. All I can say is I had a 97 Expy for five years and basically no problems and I currently have an 05 Mustang that has never had a problem. so I was kind of surprised that there were so many posts on this forum about trans problems in 07/08 Expeditions. Hopefully by the time I buy one (in the next two or three months), the problem will be resolved for everybody.
