Transmission Problems?
Sorry for the delay in reporting my results w/the latest TSB re-flash... part of it is due to my hectic Holiday schedule, but also I've seen some behavior changes over the span of a couple weeks before, so I wanted to wait it out a little... An interesting comment made by the master tech working on my truck was that the previous code sets were not "staying put", i.e., the code was reverting back after a short period of time to a previous version... that would explain why I initially have seen improvement each of the 3 times, then it seems to get worse again...
Whate Newton007 says in this post pretty much describes the behavior to a "T" - unfortunately both before AND after the latest work. Initially, there was some improvement - definitely noticible, but not "fixed" by any stretch. I also agree w/the other sentiment expressed about a 'shot in the dark' regarding their latest code set.
Some tip in hesitation is "normal". Normal?
By the way my 07 still starts out in second gear then jumps to low the first shift of the day until the transmission warm up, then it seems to shift better, however it still gets confused at times as to what gear it wants during a forced down shift.
BTW - my mileage is down 4mpg as of this change to the low 12's ... just to add insult to injury. As counter-intuitive as it sounds, though, I recommend that you all keep up on the changes being made to the code, so that if they do run across something that works, you'll have it all... You can bet they're not maintaining a baseline of "as delivered" at the Code Fixing Laboratory.
Last week with all the holiday traffic and such the transmission started doing the same ole crap it has done since day one. Called the dealership, took it by there and had the service manager ride around with me for around 20 minutes or so, so that he could document the fact that it was doing it everytime I took off and came to a stop.
Dropped truck off the next morning, and they reprogrammed again with the newest program out. They said it was just released not too long ago. Everything seems fine now, well at least for now, we will see if this program holds up (unlike any of the others they have done). This was the fourth reprogram. They have also changed out the valve body. I am about fed up with this transmission, if this last reprogram doesnt work, I will either be lemon lawing the truck or getting a whole new transmission put in. We will see which way FORD would prefer me to go. Other than the transmission problems I love the truck.

In the past, Ford automatic transmissions I have had would always be a little sluggish to shift in cold weather because of the cold fluid, then work fine once warmed up. However they would never jump first gear no matter how cold it was.
As I stated in my past posts at 300 miles I had a reprogram because the transmission would always start out on 2nd no matter what the temperature was. Now at 4700 miles it only does this until it warms up, then works ok.
I will have it looked at at the 5000 mile service that will be coming up soon.
I don't think they got the bugs out of the program yet.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Everytime it has been reprogramed it works for a few weeks then seems to go back to the original program.
I am just getting fed up with having to take the truck in and leaving it for a day and not having a vehicle in the mean time.
Hopefully it is fixed for good and I will not have to worry about it anymore.
Lets just hope.
I don't think they got the bugs out of the program yet.
Happy Holidays!

- HESITATION AFTER TIP-IN FROM A STOP/BUMP WHILE BRAKING TO A STOP BELOW 10 MPH (16 KM/H) - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 12/3/2007
<TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width=230>FORD:
</TD><TD>2007-2008 Expedition</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
This article supersedes TSB 07-23-6 to add a production fix date. ISSUE:
Some 2007 Expedition vehicles may exhibit a hesitation upon tip-in after braking to a stop and/or a bump while braking to a stop below 10 MPH (16 Km/h). This TSB fixes the bump while braking to a stop and reduces the incidence of tip-in hesitation when accelerating from a stop. Some 2008 Expedition vehicles built before 12/3/2007 may exhibit a bump feeling while braking to a stop below 10 MPH (16 Km/h). This TSB fixes the bump while braking to a stop issue.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
<TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width=80>NOTE:</TD><TD>SOME TIP-IN HESITATION IS NORMAL ON THIS TRANSMISSION IN ORDER TO PROVIDE SMOOTH OPERATION. THIS CALIBRATION UPDATE WILL HELP TO IMPROVE THIS CONDITION ON 2007 VEHICLES. 2008 VEHICLES ALREADY HAVE THIS FEATURE INCORPORATED. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

- Install IDS/PDS or equivalent and ID the vehicle.
- Update the PCM/TCM calibration using IDS release 51.8 and higher or 52.1 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2007.11 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. Since the TCM cannot be independently reprogrammed, reprogram the PCM to ensure that engine and transmission calibrations are updated to the latest level simultaneously.
- Clear TCM keep alive memory (KAM) and adaptive tables.
- Using IDS:
- Open Toolbox.
- Choose Powertrain.
- Choose Reset KAM.
- Then Choose TCM.
- Using PDS:
- Choose all Tests and Calibrations.
- Scroll down the menu and choose reset TCM KAM.
<TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width=80>NOTE:</TD><TD>FOR PDS, RESET TCM KAM IS NOT THE SAME AS CLEAR TRANSMISSION ADAPTIVE TABLES, WHICH IS UNDER THE POWERTRAIN - TRANSMISSION MENU TREE.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

- Using IDS:
- Verify that the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) PID is above 175° F (80° C). If it is not at 175° F (80° C), drive unit approximately 3 miles (5 Km) to reach temperature.
<TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width=80>NOTE:</TD><TD>TFT MUST BE AT 175° F (80° C) OR ABOVE BEFORE PROCEEDING TO STEP 5.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> - Drive unit to perform adaptive shift strategy learn:
- Accelerate from rest with light throttle. The 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 shifts must occur at engine speeds between 1300-1800 RPM.
- Continue to accelerate gently to 50 MPH (80 Km/h) so that the transmission shifts into 6th gear.
- Brake gently to a complete stop and hold foot on brake for at least 15 seconds.
- Repeat Steps (a-c) a total of five (5) times.

Anybody aware of any long-term issues if its left unresolved? I mean, are we looking at tranny damage/replacement down the road?
So I just punch the gas to get it to down shift instead of shifting to low at a stop light like I use to do. It is using more gas this way, but I am tired of shifting by hand.
Guess I will take it in, but hope they don't make it worse seeing that they still have not figured it out yet.
Gee, no wonder they have slipped in the current car manufacturers ratings to #3.
