Transmission Problems?
My 07 Expedition 6R75 has been starting out in second gear about 50% of the time. I have had several reflashes done to it since it was brand new. They always work for a while, then it starts doing it again. I only put about 50 miles a month on it, so I just get in the habit of punching it until it goes to low. It is a wonder I have any tire tread left as it usually breaks traction and burns rubber in a forced downshift to low. So I am going to the dealer (again) for a reflash. I keep thinking that by now they would have the bugs out of the software.
Otherwise it has been a great SUV and the ride and steering is the best of any Ford I have ever owned. It is almost as good as a 1977 Lincoln town car I had way back then. After reading the other 6R75 transmission problem posts here, I think the 6R75 is junk and I wished I could put a E4OD in it. I had a E4OD in a 94 Bronco for 100,000+ miles and it worked flawless and never leaked a drop of oil. Oh well, off to the dealer (again).

If you read my posts back to 07 you will see that I have been fighting this transmission problem since it was brand new. The usual factory warranty fix was a reflash that worked for a while but always went back to its old self after about 7 months.
I bought one of those Ford top of the line extended warrantys that cover everything. I took it to the dealer today and they told me that they were going to replace the valve body with a 2011 revised design new one that should fix the problem.
May be for good this time, I hope. it seems that the top of the line extended Ford warranty has to fix the problem or else I can just keep bringing it back until they replace the whole transmission with a new one at no charge.

The really sad part is that I really do like my Expedition and have been thinking of buying new one, but have been holding off until I can be sure they have finally fixed the transmission problems. I really don't want to go through all this again on a 2012.

Anyway it is in the shop today and I hope to get it back Monday (Finally repaired).

If you let it go with out a reflash, it will really start doing strange things, like a double bump at every stop sign, start out in second gear, bang in to second if it does start out in low. A bang bang bang when starting out in low sometimes.
Even had a engine over speed one time in third gear.

I hope it is finally repaired this time with the new valve body install.

I am going to pick it up Monday and I will give a report, but will have to put some miles on it to make sure the repair holds up.

the dealer has reflashed it 3Xs now and replaced the value body. Ford says it tests ok by their test equipment
20,220 total miles. That is the good news, but this is really no different than before as it always works ok after every reflash, but after a while it will start acting up again.
So the real test will not be known for a while.
As always, they had no explaination as to why the transmission acts up the way it does, in fact the service person at this dealer was not much help at all with anything. I am going to go back to the dealer I had before even though it is much farther away, the service is better.
1960, This is not good news at all as I was thinking to trade in this one on a 2012 Expedition to get away from the transmission problem for good.

I would have thought by now they could finally fix the problem once and for all.
Berry1234 is right, your transmission is not acting normal at all. Normally, in my case anyway, a reflash should fix the problem, for a while anyway. It has always worked just fine after every reflash, just not very long.
I was looking on line for some kind of reflash module that I could use my own computer to do my own reflash as taking to the dealer is a PITA as they usually have it for a while and it is the only transportation I have. This time was 4 days.
1960 I would take it back to the dealer and let them know that you are not going away until it is fixed. I had this very same problem since my 07 was new and the dealer tried to tell me this was normal.
Of course it is not normal as it only had 300 miles on it and it was always starting out in second gear and I was shifting it to low myself at every stop sign.

I really do like my Expedition, but this on going transmission problem is a bummer for sure.
I don't know if it was just this one or all of them. Some people claim they have had no problem at all with their Expedition transmissions and others that have have nothing but trouble with their transmissions. So may be it is the luck of the draw or the transmission may have been built on a Monday morning or something.

But the TSBs tell the story as Ford knows there is a problem and seems to have been trying to get a handle on it for years. Why it takes years, I don't know unless there is some sort of problem in the Ford transmission engineering front office, there is some disagreement as to what to do about it and they can't get their act together. I would say there is a basic design flaw and they have been trying to cover it up with software patches, reflashes and telling the owner that there is no problem.
The really crazy part to me is that after every reflash, the transmission works just fine, but not for very long. Soon it is back to acting up again. I just don't get it.
I wish I could find a adaptor or something so I could do my own reflash when it starts acting up with out taking all the way down to the dealer every time. The Navigator has the same transmission, but I don't know if they are having problems also or not, I would guess so.
I also really do like my Expedition as otherwise I have had a few other problems, but they were all solved on just one visit to the dealer, but not this stupid transmission.
