The parts kits have arrived at my dealership and they had an opening for this Friday. I aksed to wait until Monday the 14th, so I wasn't missing my truck for any more days than needed. Wish me luck....

Seems to be a great place for good info!
This was my first post here, & now I wonder if we are going to be able to get Ford to help with future tranny failures possibly caused by this malady, any thoughts?

2005 ts trans build dates with poss. problems ?

Since this hit the air/wirewaves I'm sure alot of 6.0 Torque-Shift owners bombarded dealerships demanding to know what was going on. I know I did. The build date of the transmission is the key to it all,(March ' 04 -June' 04) not the build date of the truck. And then a different problem has shown up on the ' 05 Torque-Shift transmissions. Parts are in the system, to fix both problems, just not enough at this time. And I know the Flat-rate techs are not happy with time alotted to do this repair. Which does complicate things a little. PATIENCE.......
What are the build dates of the 2005 ts trans that may experience problems ........ ?

I talked to the ford tranny tech and the service manager today, and this is what I found out;

1: My buid date was not affected.... call them and give them your vin# they will tell you if you are affected.
2: It is affecting F250-F350's with the snow plow package and some others.
3: It is a snap ring that was installed on a shaft and it was never rotated 180*. That is why they are failing.
4: The "fix" in non broken trannies is to open the trans and rotating the snap ring 180*, then putting the trans back together.

PLEASE call in your vin# to Ford. You don't want to be stranded on the side of the road with a HUGE hole in your tranny case.

I took the advice of Catfish_Man (see post #121) and rolled my big butt under my truck to check the transmission tag. It indicates 18 03 04. Bummer. I went to the Ford dealer today and provided the VIN and he ran the Oasis Report and my truck indeed requires 04B24 Transmission Reverse Planet Replacement. They have to order the parts and it's tentatively scheduled for 2/28. He says it takes approx 2 days. I'd like to thank all of you for your input on this website as I probably would not have been notified of this potentially bad situation and had some problems. My truck does run perfectly fine (12k miles) and the tranny is shifting perfectly right now so I would have been caught off guard if the tranny blew lunch.
Do any of you subscribe to all data diy? Supposedly you can receive TSB's and recall notices from them. I don't subscribe (yet) but it would be worth it to get get the inside scoop on this stuff. Any Thoughts?

FordHarley, I used to have a subscription to alldatadiy for my 2000 Expy but let it expire after I sold it. It doesn't look like they have any 2004+ vehicles available yet, but I will subscribe again once they update their site. They have a ton of good information and repair procedures.

My tranny falls in the given dates but does not require the 04B24 repair. I guess only certain configurations are affected. Anyone else have this same situation. Not that I am complaining, I would rather not have the tranny taken apart.

I asked about this issue when i bought the truck on Jan 21, I took the TSB number in and had the service dept look up the VIN to check. They said back then it was not effected so i bought the truck. Now I want to check again since this has been around a while and maybe the dealerships have new info...

I just got my truck back from the dealer for the transmission recall. I gave it to them on Monday. The service writer was open with all the information on the recall. He showed me all the service tech info and saved the planetary gear set from my truck to look at. The shaft holding one of the gears walks out and causes a lot of trouble. If it is caught in time the repair is just a matter of replacing the gear set.Mine had not walked out yet but I only have 7000 miles on my truck. While in there I had them look at an oil leak. They also replaced my rear main seal. For those of you in the SF bay area I took my truck Hayward Ford. I had been going to The Ford Store in San Leandro and was not happy with the service. When I talked to them about the trans recall they told me they need my truck to look at it and see if it had a problem. At Hayward Ford they told me my truck needed the fix.Bring it in and they will have it back in 3 to 4 days. They kept me informed each day on the progress of my trucks repair. When I picked it up I took it to my shop and put it up on the rack for inspection. I have to say they did a very good job from the out side. I hope this is the last problem. 2 glow plug wiring harness leaks , a rear main seal and a transmission recall.Still I love this truck. This site has helped me out a great deal and I hope my info helps some one out.

Well, there is hope for humanity! I just went to the mailbox and what do ya know... a letter from FORD advising me of the 04B24 tranmission reverse planet replacement (see post #172 above). Although I already scheduled this to be done, I feel much better knowing FORD will notify by mail the need to get this type of thing done. On a side note, I just checked the MyFord website and it still doesn't indicate any recall notifications. Apparently the FORD web site systems aren't tied together.

I checked with the dealer and my tranny is not part of the recall. My tranny was built 4 days before the recall dates start. Hard to believe that makes a difference.

Bill Jordan,

Must be about like me with the problems and all.

My tranny "recall" fix took two days in the shop. Got the note by phone from my dealer. (Waiting on Ford notification by snail mail myself.)

(I'd guess Ford could be embarrassed to know I already had their tranny fix done.) HMMM?

Not a miracle that you can't see a recall on the Ford website.

I have to HMMM twice on this one, 'cause you want see a recall there.

Here's what I think: Ford thinks they might have a problem, but hey dont know how really extensive the problem is. (Understand?)

So they tell certain of their dealers to call in certain limited number of recent and good customers for a good look at the guts of their vehicles. (Your physician does the same thing and bills medicare or your insurance for it..but nevermind....)

So their ain't no recall: Ford just wants to get a look at you tranny while they have "medical" insurance coverage on your vehicle (under warranty). Their are just like like doctors. But Ford paid for the 36/36 insurance when you bought the truck.

So they can get into your tranny and find out how big of a problem they might really have.

So it is, Ford has no recall or information on their website about issues per your VIN? Not rocket science! (I couldn't find a problem with mine at FORD website either).

So its the dealer that is bothering me about getting into my tranny? What you think? Yeah, I'm going to let my dealer what they need to do, even though the tranny does fine. (No word from Ford)

The nurse says "you look a liitle pale" Doc says you need a $3,000 MRI....BUT we can get this paid for under our research project!

Dealer takes the truck for two days puts me in a rental car, pulls the tranny out, takes a good look, do whatever, puts the tranny back in. No performance change to me.

So who is fishing here? Not the dealer! Must be Ford!

Known: somebody bigger than my dealer said to pull my tranny, and to "treat the customer right".

You wan't see a recall on Fords site. Just doctors reccomendations.
