kw5413,
Thanks for your input.
That was my thought all along, but alot of the folks are saying to get it in right away.
My thought was to let them practice on the trucks in the lot first.
Then they can have mine.
Practice makes perfect.
I told my dealer,(when they said I could have a Focus to drive) that I needed move some more equipment around before they could have my truck.
unless they wanted to give me a Focus with a tow hitch reciever.
Still not too keen on driving a loaner on the snow and ice.
I know this is tagged to the 04's but it may be the tip of a very dirty iceberg.......
SUBJECT: Customer Satisfaction Program 04B24:
Certain 2004 Model Year F-250/350/450/550 Super Duty, Econoline, and Excursion Vehicles Equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift Transmission
Transmission Reverse Planet Replacement
PROGRAM TERMS
This program will be in effect until September 30, 2005 regardless of mileage. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 2004 Model Year F-250/350/450/550 Super Duty, Econoline, and Excursion vehicles equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift transmission built from March 8, 2004 through June 24, 2004. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS....
REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM
Some 2004 MY Excursion, Super Duty and Econoline vehicles equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift transmission may have low/reverse gear set pinion shaft(s) that may walk out, causing metallic particle contamination. If this condition were to occur, it may lead to harsh/slipping shifts and/or harsh/delayed forward/reverse engagements. If these symptoms are ignored, this could eventually lead to a transmission failure.
SERVICE ACTION
At no charge to the vehicle owner, dealers are to replace the reverse planet assembly on all of the affected vehicles. Note: If vehicles are repaired in a timely manner, secondary transmission damage can be avoided.
REPAIR OF IN-STOCK VEHICLES
Dealers should service in-stock vehicles first because these vehicles will not have secondary damage, and will not require additional repairs beyond the reverse planet replacement.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
To ensure the needed supply of parts are available for dealers , owners of affected vehicles will not be notified by mail until the beginning of January, 2005. Please note that dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter. In addition, dealers should repair in-stock units before sale to minimize future customer inconvenience.
Print this page out and stick it on your dealer's forehead with bubble gum. The recall # is listed above and if they get on their computer and pull up OASIS report on your truck you & they will know what has to be done if you truck qualifies. And tell them you want a copy of the Oasis Report too! Call Yocum Ford in Lansdale PA and ask about the recall ! They are one of the good dealerships that I've found.
I had to drop off my 02 Mustang at the dealership yesturday, while there I asked about the recall. I know the build date on my truck is June 24,2004, but do not know the tranny build date. So I had him pull up the VIN and see if it was part of the recall. According to his computer, my 04 is not part of the recall.
I have an 04 X with build date 06/24/04, so I'm certain I'm in the affected date range...probably the vehicle manufactured right before they found the problem! Anyway, I put my VIN into the myford website and no recalls or "customer satisfaction programs" were listed. I'm still going to mention it to the dealership when I am there next month. So far, no problems at 5700 miles.

And you can sell it after all the little things are fixed on your truck. That way you won't need to drive a "Focus" in the snow and ice. What ever happened to supplying a loaner of equal capability to your serviced vehicle.
Anyone out there have a high end luxury car that needs service? What do you get as a loaner? When I took the wifes Grand Cherokee in a couple years ago I got a brand now one for two days. They could have given me a low end BEEM'r, or Porche, but the Jeep was just fine for me. They could have even entrusted me with a used car on the lot. But no, I got a Limited GC with all the bells and whistles. Good service -that is.

I haven't done any of these recalls yet. Actually they aren't even out yet in Canada. Apparently it takes a while to get the French translation done and it can't be posted until it's in both languages
Anyway.... I've rebuilt only 1 Torqshift so far and it is very easy to work on. Your dealer probably has a transmission tech or a few that will do the work so even if it's the first recall they've done it's not a big deal. They have probably had other Torqshifts apart for other reasons so they know what they look like inside. The recall instructions are usually very specific and relatively easy to follow.
Thanks Racerguy,
Its nice to have some positive imput back.
I take it you work, or own a dealership?
I'm still having a problem giving up my truck for a Focus.
Beats walking though.
And it is snowing hard outside.
