I finally remembered to check my tranny temp guage after about 10-15 minutes of driving and it was still down in the "no reading" zone. I haven't really paid attention to the factory guage since installing the new x-monitor tranny temp guage, but after reading about this I thought I better. I had the recall (CSP, TSB, whatever) service about a week ago, about 1000 miles, so I know I've gone through the start and stop cycle enough. I called the service dept and will be bringing it in on Monday for them to check out. Looks like I'm the 3rd one to see this...any others out there or any updates from those with similar temp problems?

I pulled the following post from another 6.0 forum:
{About a month ago I began experiencing the delayed shift into reverse and drive.Brought it to Ford truck dealer service center knowing about the 04B24 recall for reverse planetary gear pins backing out.Spoke with service manager, very nice guy-mod friendly,he knew about the recall. When I told him that I had an 08/04 build he didn't know if Mother Ford would pick up the tab (37K,1K past warranty)but said he had a good relationship with his rep to see if they'd work with me,it looks hopeful.Next day I stopped by to see what he'd found out.He said the rep guarenteed that when it was torn down that it wouldn't be the reverse planetary problem?Don't know how a man can guarentee something from a hundred miles away!?So I told serv. man. to go ahead and tear it down and if I tore it up I'll pay,but if the reverse planet is screwed up I'd appreciate Ford stepping up.Oh,by the way the day before the tranny tech pulled the external filter,it was black with a ton of shavings in it and he was pretty sure it was the reverse gear pin problem.Nothing to do but wait right?Wrong, time to make a call to suncoast for their extreme rebuild kit, torque converter, and mag-hytec-tech said he'd throw it in on Fords dime so no time like the present, right? Finally got it tore apart yesterday and it was the reverse planetary pin backing out, very ugly.Got some great pictures of it(as soon as I figure out how I will post)Tech is replacing all the solenoids(6 or 7)and a bunch of other parts on Ford.Stopped by again today Cool Tech lets me drop in a bunch to see whats going on,he should have er put back together today.Serv. man. was jumping through all the hoops for Ford.I'll find out tomorrow how much Ford is going to pick up.Amazing what honesty and a cup of coffee will get ya these days.Oh by the the way fellas take a few minutes to pull that external filter and give it a look,it should be red,if it's black or has chunks in it ya got trouble!I'll be happy to answer any questions too.) Just wondering if this is a problem with older trucks also!

Well guys,
Picked my truck up tonight. Seems ok, shifts nice & tight like it should. No delay when going from forward to reverse. Both "kits" were installed in my tranni by Yokum Ford in Landsdale, PA. Dropped it off on tuesday a.m., was given a loaner, and I picked my truck up tonight as promised....no problems, no hassles. Will let you all know how it goes, as I run this beast right up and over the 100K mile mark over the next few years.

Here is a link for the external transmission filter & this guy said to change & look for metal shavings to see if you are having a problem with the gears. http://dan.prxy.org/Truck/F-350_main...placement.html

For the time being, I think I'll just keep an eye on it. Rather, than going back to the dealer.

UPDATE:
I've now driven 75 miles or so, and stopped and started 5 or 6 times, following the aforementioned servce.
Engine warmup time, temp gauge and heat all seem to be working fine/normal.

1/27/05 UPDATE-ENGINE TEMP ISSUE
19 F. today, and my truck is taking around 20 minutes/miles to reach normal operating/heating temp.
That is at least 2X longer than before trans recall/pcm flash.
Any ideas, anyone?

Got my truck back again yesterday. When they removed the thermostat housing to install the new thermostat they found a bolt rolling around in it. Bonus from the factory I guess. Warms up pretty good now.
My tranny is not quite right though. Delayed shifts from drive to reverse just like my problems started out. I'm going to drive it a while and see what happens.

When to take it in for trans. recall?

My truck is under the transmission recall. (I ran an OAISIS check)
Transmission and engine build date are March 26, 2004.
I'm not having any transmission problems (no delayed shifting).
I talked to my dealer and he has not done any transmission recalls.
I don't want to be the first. How long can I drive it before I take it in? Is there anything I can do to check to see if I have underlying transmission problems? Parts availability? I currently have 21,500 miles with no problems.

Trans techs recommend ASAP, before you notice damage.
Parts are available.

This link is to a guys tranny taken apart if anyone is interested, taken from a link he provided on another forum. He had the recall done after damage was done. http://community.webshots.com/album/219993230TYCrMw/3

I'd recommend having the work done ASAP as the longer you run it the greater the potential for more serious damage. Mine required a ton of parts with only 11,000 miles.
My dealer has had 2 2005's with less than 1000 miles come in with shattered tranny cases. The first one is back with the case shattered again. I'm hoping Ford will get the bugs worked out soon.

It wasn't an engineering defect. It was a manufacturing process defect. The recall only covers "some" transmissions.

my neighbor with his 2003 F550 with auto and 6.0 just dropped his truck off at repair shop (70,000 miles on it). Problems with transmission, dealer said planetary gears in back of transmission is probably the problem. (i haven't read the other posts on here, just contributing some.)

tinytrixie, when i took my '05 psd to have first service on it , i complained about the trans shifting up and down at every little grade change while towing. the ford rep said that there was a flash for the tcm which should cure the shifting deal. he said nothing at that time about a "recall".
