transmission recall
First thing I'd check is the fluid level though. Early in the '03 rollout they couldn't fill a capacity right to save their lives. ATF was usually underfilled, oil was usually overfilled, coolant could go either way. You'd think they'd have that down by now, but who knows.

I called my dealer yesterday, and he gave me the inside skinny.
I have never had a problem, I can go from R to D while rolling backwards ( not a great practice, but it does happen sometimes) and it falls right in gear and is ready to go. Anyway's my dealer says he isn't sure how long it will take, two days, maybe five.
My question is Why? "We have not done one of these yet, and can not be sure of how long it will really take, because of parts availability."
Ouch,,,, do I want to be the first one. No I don't!
Practice on someone elses truck.
Besides, Mine works fine.
Outside of that, Hello ! it's Winter here, and they want to give me a Focus to drive?
I don't think it would get up the hill, yet alone the hill in my driveway on the ice.
I think I want to wait untill Spring.
My Dealer has been really super so far, and seem to be very knowedgeable.
Should I run to another Dealer, wait and see if they can get some experience.
Or just trust them, and enjoy my Focus for a week.????
Darn it!! I don't think the dealer can repair things as well as they come from the factory. Factory trannies will last over 100K and a dealer rebuild will last maybe 50K.
Anyway, I checked my VIN# on the provided link above and no recalls for my truck.
Has everyone with the TQSHFT problem build dates checked their VIN #s for recalls? Were they listed?
SUBJECT: Customer Satisfaction Program 04B24:
Certain 2004 Model Year F-250/350/450/550 Super Duty, Econoline, and Excursion Vehicles Equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift Transmission
Transmission Reverse Planet Replacement
PROGRAM TERMS
This program will be in effect until September 30, 2005 regardless of mileage. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 2004 Model Year F-250/350/450/550 Super Duty, Econoline, and Excursion vehicles equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift transmission built from March 8, 2004 through June 24, 2004. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS....
REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM
Some 2004 MY Excursion, Super Duty and Econoline vehicles equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift transmission may have low/reverse gear set pinion shaft(s) that may walk out, causing metallic particle contamination. If this condition were to occur, it may lead to harsh/slipping shifts and/or harsh/delayed forward/reverse engagements. If these symptoms are ignored, this could eventually lead to a transmission failure.
SERVICE ACTION
At no charge to the vehicle owner, dealers are to replace the reverse planet assembly on all of the affected vehicles. Note: If vehicles are repaired in a timely manner, secondary transmission damage can be avoided.
REPAIR OF IN-STOCK VEHICLES
Dealers should service in-stock vehicles first because these vehicles will not have secondary damage, and will not require additional repairs beyond the reverse planet replacement.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
To ensure the needed supply of parts are available for dealers , owners of affected vehicles will not be notified by mail until the beginning of January, 2005. Please note that dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter. In addition, dealers should repair in-stock units before sale to minimize future customer inconvenience.
You want to talk slimy too-narrow recalls, how about the 4R100 mechanical diode fiasco, where they determined "oh, this will never show up in diesel trucks because they don't rev high enough, so they're not included in the recall." And then pretty much every one in a diesel truck proceeded to fail too.

2004 5R110 Defective Transmissions
02 Jan 2005
Consumer Advisory
Ford will advise dealers that 2004 F250, F350, F450, F550, Econoline vans and Excursions may have defective 5R110 Torq-Shift transmissions. The transmissions may have low reverse gear set pinion shaft(s) that may walk out. Should this condition occur, metallic particles may contaminate the transmission leading to harsh/slipping conditions and or harsh/delayed forward/reverse engagements. If these symptoms occur and are ignored, the transmission may fail.
This advisory includes all products listed above that were built from 08 March 2004 through 24 June 2004.
Dealers are advised to, at no cost to consumers, replace the reverse planet assembly on all affected vehicles before sale to a consumer and repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealership, whether or not the consumer has received a letter from Ford or not.
If the transmissions are repaired in a timely manner, secondary transmission damage can be avoided.
This program will remain in effect to 30 September 2005.

I called my dealer and they said they have no idea about any recalls on super duties. What info do I need to break out to get them to recognize the problem?
Also checked on myford.com and no recalls are listed there???
My build date is 05/04/04

I will do as they ask, but you can best believe there will be an oil sample bottle under the tranny drain before they touch another bolt on my tranny. (I definately want to know how much metal is there now and after the repairs.)
Checking out an '05 F series as my replacement driver (provided by them for a couple of days) as they forecasted might be a nice test drive!.
Can't figure yet whether I'm ticked or pleased. (Knowing Ford I expect to be very much pleased, and not at all disappointed!)
I could not ask any more?
