Its kind of funny 150ford, they ask for proof because were blowing smoke, then you give them proof, and they still downplay it.
O.K. I hate to have to say this, but to accurately portray the true sales picture, you have to Combine Chevy and GMC sales. They are the same truck, different trim.

Proof? It was on a dodge forum. I didn't read the whole thread, though. The first post about my buddies buddy having some unkown problem with the head was about enough to show what that post was all about.
I'd sure prefer the small chance of some problem with the alum heads on my old, stone reliable 01 dmax to the POS 6.0 that Ford just bought back from me!
AQvery fair post there Mr. Goodwrench. Sorryfor any duramax bashing. Didnt mean to sound that way. Its nice to see a fair minded guy like yourself. I wish I was like that
150Ford,
Your difinatly blue oval through and through but I've never know you to bash anything. Usually you post in such a way as to try not to offend anybody but at the same time make good points...
Not trying to start anything, but I thought I would look for some of the Duramax head problems...I found this interesting though....
About 2002 Chevy Duramax diesels: How many of you have this problem with fuel injectors leaking into the crankcase?
Fuel injectors leak fuel into crankcase diluting oil to a level of no oil pressure, overfilling the crankcase with fuel and spilling out onto the engine. That creates a potential fire hazard.
It has happened to my truck three times in 25,000 miles and I am filing for action against GM to push for a recall.

Anyone else hear of this???
Not sure of the source but here is another posting: Subject: RE: Best diesel engine???? From: ex-Dodge Date: 01-Mar-04
For now, the 7.3L Power Stroke is the best you can do, most are good for 500,000 miles with minor repairs.
The DT 466 is also another good engine. Lifespan of about 500,000+ also.
Give the 6.0L another 6 months, they say the ones mfg. after Nov. '03 are trouble free, but I would give them more time. The Torqueshift auto is one helluva transmission.
The Chevy's and their aluminum headed Duramax won't go much past 100k, seen them warp on the electric company's fleet, usually around 90,000 miles. After the last experience I had with Dodge and their automatic transmission, I won't touch one with a 10 foot pole. The Cummins is not all it's chocked up to be either. It's a good design, if only it would hold together for a while. One of the boys at the shop has a Cummins Ram 2500 and his whole front assembly, pulleys and everything fell off going down the interstate about 3 months ago. Dodge denied his warranty coverage saying he had modified the engine. It was stock.
Show me proof where Dodge is NOT #2 in 2500/3500 series truck sales and I'll shut up. But until then, GM isn't even in the game as far as I'm concerned. Dodge and Ford own that market...and that is why there are tons of Dodge commercials on TV right now. You gotta' fight tooth and nail for position...the industry is hot for trucks right now.

I have to admit, I don't like Dodges at all. However, I would much rather be seen in a Dodge than a chevy. Chevy is at the bottom right now, plain and simple.
You have to laugh at dodge though, putting that pitiful excuse of an engine they call a "hemi" in a 2500/3500. I mean these trucks are supposed to be the big boys

I dont think that thread is exactly proof that the aluminum head is junk. I know that you are not so naieve as to think that out of all the cast iron diesel heads, there have not been some head failures. I have to have cast iron heads milled on occasion. I also have to send some cracked ones off to be fixed.

Yeah, There were lots of people who were not turned on by Fuel injectors, engine management computers, intercooled turbo chargers, automatic transmissions, electric fuel pumps, automatic locking hubs, and all the rest of the "new fangled gizmos" that are now the mainstay of the automotive industry.

Look, I just did a quick search in Yahoo, and came back with like, a few hundred different links to go to with the Duramax head problem. Thing is I dont really care, I wouldn't take a Chevy if it was given to me, they are ugly, underpowered, peices of junk. I cant stand the way they look, inside or outside, their horrible. Same goes for Dodge, I like the outside, its a good looking truck, but the inside is cheap and horendous looking, not to mention their lack of a good motor.
