The romance is over!

After the last flash at the dealer I believe the truck was neutered. This truck was awesome. Smoking tires, sticking to the seat, the whole deal. I sent the 1704 back to get updated hoping for the best. The truck could'nt even smoke the tires any more. No other problems. The truck was'nt fun to drive anymore. Between that and the price of diesel I let her go. Just got into a Subaru Outback XT. Same motor as the WRX STI. The smile is back on my face. So long guys. You as a group were very informative. Cheers

Well, the 6.0 was built for hauling loads, not hauling a$$... Have fun rally racing!

When I asked about sending my superchip back for reprogramming they wouldn't take it without the original reciept which I no longer have as it was a year and half old at the time. Does anyone know if this is still their policy?

They want the receipt and your vin #. I'm surprised they don't want a DNA sample as well!

I had my 05 6.0 updated back in January so my 1704 had to be updated also. I sent it back to Florida, all I sent was the tuner in the org. box along with the instructions and the update code. It cost me $12.50 to ship down and paid them $12.50 to ship back. This is the second time I have had to do this. No problems at all.

Also, in the high setting, I can barely get mine to smoke, just a puff. They must have changed the programming because before it would roal the coal bigtime! Not a issue for me, but some want as much smoke as possible.

are you happy with the 1704?
how long have you had it in use and have you had any problem that could relate to the tuner?
iam thinking about buying the 1704 would you advise against buying used i.e off ebay.
ive researched a little and i think most tuner problems i.e headgaskets are due to other tuners

I bought mine about 2 months after I got my truck. May of 05. My truck is a 05 F350 6.0 with 6sp. At first it made the engine run louder (injector chatter) and I ran it for a while then switched back to stock. I have had 3 or 4 updates on my trucks computer and never sent the 1704 back until this year. Of the 29,000 miles on the truck, I have had it tuned for only about 1500 or so miles. I am not looking for the high horsepower like most, I got it for improved mpg. In the high setting I see a improvement if I drive senseable, and the extra power is nice as well. The only other mods on my truck is air intake and the exhaust. I have no other plans to do anything else.

Would I recommend one...well I have not had any experience with any other tuner, and I have not really used mine that much. And as far as buying one off E-bay, make sure its not vin locked, also you might have to send it to Superchips in Florida to have it updated for your truck. You pay for round trip shipping which will cost $25 total. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions and I will try to answer.

When I was using mine I only noticed a gain on the high performance setting of about 2-3 mpg. However if you get on it it seems to drop off. I have mine on the high setting now and have not driven much yet to compare to yet. I think if driven normal, i.e. not hot roddin it, a gain of about 2-4 is about right.

Cool

Ron are you with superchips? I haven't been here to the DB for quite sometime but let me relay a problem to you and maybe you might point me in the right direction. I have an 06 diesel that I bought new two years ago and then bought and installed a flashpaq 1805 to this truck. After 51000 trouble free miles I'm now having a problem which I don't think has anything to do with the application but I removed the programs before taking the truck in for a fix. BTW the truck would blow huge clouds of smoke and hardly run. Once they fix it I 'll try and download the flashpaq into the truck again. While the flashpaq was out I though I would check for any updates to the 1805 after two years. According to Ryan at the superchips location in Florida there aren't any. At the SC site you can read about a system upgrade called a stage four tune but you can't access it for the 1805 flashpaq from the site. So I guess what I'm asking is what good is a programable tuner from the internet if there are no updates offered or programs that you can't access? I like the tuner but based on this two year run with no updates you are just as well off to buy a chip or regular program. This isn't what I thought this programmer would be when I purchased it. I was under the impression that as time went on there would be upgrades to the tuner. Without that why have interent access to upgrades that aren't offered? OTOH why tell folks there is an upgrade but you can't get it?

Got truck back yesterday. EGR valve seems to be the culprit. No more smoke and truck runs as good as new. No chage all covered under warranty. Will try and download flashpaq and see what happens.
