Vic,

With all this added horsepower that the Microtuner can develop what range on the boost gauge do you recommend... 0-30, 0-35 or 0-60 ??

Thanks,
R

I like the autometer gauges that go to 35 PSI
This is plenty.
30 is not quite enough because you will see spikes over 30 at times.

No other modifications

With no intake or exhaust modifications can you use all three power levels?

That is correct.
Intake and exhaust are welcome, but not necessary.

**SOME WORDS REGARDING THIS THREAD***

Before we continue, I want to make it clear that while I am the only one answering this thread, I am certainly not the only one involved in producing the 1704.
I did all of the TUNING for the 6.0L, but the tuning is only a part of what is required to create a new part#.

A very CRUCIAL thanks to:

Engineering- They very quickly came up with a handheld tuner that not only programs extremely fast, but is reliable and very user friendly. What they do is amazing. I'd thank everyone personally, but I want to protect names here. Without them, it is literally impossible to talk to the computer.
Our Engineering supervisors input really helpd me out with the tuning.

Customer Service- For taking orders, getting the word out about the product and answering the high volume of calls. They were also involved in some of the testing and were a HUGE help in locating and picking up test vehicles

My calibrations manager-, For allowing me to use my discretion and for all of his input/advice during development.

My fellow calibrators- Especially you (JT) who helped me construct the database for the 1704, and those who helped pick up and drop off vehicles.

To 80- you know who you are....the guy who works (and drives) his tail off everyday to find donor vehicles.

A final thanks to Management and to "CJ" (If you end up reading this, you'll know who you are).
Without your tools, this would not have been possible.

With that said:

I started this thread because I wanted to be in contact with some of the consumers and hear input at the calibration level. This thread is for questions about the programs and about any drivability/power issues concerns/opinions/comments you may have about the 1704 tuning.
I take all of this this input into consideration if/when revisions are made.

I will do my best to keep up with this thread, but do keep in mind this is in my own spare time. There are times where I may not answer quickly, and there will be questions that I can not answer because some answers are proprietary information that I simply can not share.

I will, however, do the best that I can to keep up with this thread.
Please call CUSTOMER SERVICE if you have any verbal questions, PLEASE....do not call Superchips and ask to speak with any of the calibrators or engineers. We are so busy with what we do, there is not time to take phone calls.

'nuff said =o)

Another thanks to Ken Payne and Tim Lamkin, for allowing this thread, giving your testing feedback, and keeping this thread under control.

Last, but not least, thanks to RR, our national sales and marketing manager, our WD's, dealers, and of course...you guys!...the customers who are buying the 1704.

Two questions. (Sorry if they have been answered and I missed it) Can you tweak or modify the tunes, and, any progress on availability for PSD Econoline?

Morris

How long to change power levels?

Nowhere in all the info on the new tuner that I have read does it say how long it takes to change from one power setting to another. Just want to know. I have one on order. Please Mr. postman. Bring me a tune.er that is. Buck

Its likely high cylinder pressures are blowing gas past head gaskets. On rare occasion it's happened with the Predators on the highest settings and I have also heard of SCT tunes doing it as well but I don't know how common (or not) is with the SCT. What power setting are you using?

just got my superchips TODAY. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. Truck will plaster you to the seat all the way through third, burns tires all the way through first, barks into second, and barks into third gear. Black smoke rolls when you rev it in neutral; far more than a tractor trailer---i absolutely blacked out the ingles parking lot this afternoon. This is all with no exhaust, no intake, no ANYTHING besides the tuner. I need gauges, but ill be ok for a little while without them, i dont ever tow anything besides my butt and maybe a friend's. By the way, installation is pathetically easy; i did it while stuffing a mcdonald's cheeseburger in my face in the parking lot. Took about 5 or 6 minutes.

Have you noticed any coolant leaking from the truck like some of the others using this tuner?

macvtt-
You DO have a 1704, right?

Do you have your stock calibration information?
I want to nip this right now and check all the TSB's.
(I can check the TSB's Monday morning).
Are you able to watch your peak boost levels?
Some Ford flashes were more prone to coolant leaks than others, and some earlier trucks/flashes had this problem stock.
