While making inertia power runs with a diesel (or anything turbocharged), load will drastically affect peak boost (and WHEN it attains peak boost, this is also of vital importance) and power output.
This is why when you rev the engine in neutral, the turbo makes no boost.

Correct.
5th gear creates more load (on an inertia dyno) than 1st.
This is, of course, true on the street...but the load is so great on the street that the truck will barely get moving =o)
(question isn't here this time, but it's the answer that's important):
_________
I understand your questions and concerns.
Advertising the "at best' gain on the 1704 would show a really high number, and it wouldn't be fair in the case of the 6.0L
Here is why:
The 1705, while it had some hefty gains...notice the RPM range was the same as stock? They didnt make the power curve hugely longer than stock like it is now with the 6.0L
In the 1704 (6.0L), you have a stock truck that barely squeaks out any power above 3300 RPM and it's dead by 3500. Dead.
Tune the 6.0L with the 1704 perforance file and it now makes stupid power all the way past 4200 RPM.
(We'll reference 3300-3900 RPM since I shift it at 3900.)
If its making 300 HP and 550 ft lbs of torque (round random numbers)at 3900 RPM, does this mean it's making 300HP and 550 FT LB gain over stock?
Literally, yes...but can you advertise this as the primary power gains for advertising? Of course not!
It didn't make ANY power there stock!
Get in a stock truck and put it in "2" gear on the shift selector (or one with a manual transmission) and go for a spin up the street.
(shift selector "2" on Ford vehicles with automatics will keep it in 2nd constantly and will not allow upshift or downshift once it's in 2nd.)
Drive it stock and TRY to hit the factory rev limiter.
Hmmm, hmmm,hmmm,hmmm
It'll reach and sometimes won't get there.
Now tune it with the 1704 performance file and do the same.....you'll hit the(now considerably higher 4500 RPM instead of 3800-4000) rev limiter so fast you won't believe it.
The gains above 3300 are just plain stupid.
Stupid, stupid stupid.....and I like it that way =o)
The dyno charts are actually funny.
You'll see soon =o)
I bought the superchip for my 6.0 yesterday through motorhaven, im bitting my nails until I get it, by the way!!! Just to cure my curiosity, I made a few phone calls around town to see who sold these units, just to see how much they carged.....I was blown away to hear that the local shops around me sell the super chips for almost double....yes double, from what the price on motorhaven is.......I couldnt believe it.......
I will verify Vic's statement about the unbelieveably wide powerband provided by the Superchips. I have ridden in units with predators, with bully dogs, with quadzilla boxes, and with the edge, and none will touch the acceleration generated by the superchips unit. I do not honestly know about the Banks six gun, i have never ridden in one nor seen one yet, but i would be extremely surprised if it will even keep up with it though the FACTORY powerband. What gets me is that of all the units i have seen (so far) this one seems to run the lowest exhaust gas temps of any of the units (i say this in reference to being UNLOADED, i have never pulled a load with any of them.)

Hello everyone. I have been unable to post under my gonnasellit username (and no, the gonnasellit is not my truck, Love it!) and I am not sure I sent the email to the right place, as I've received no reply. Pls post the correct link for log on problems.
Got my Superchips tuner from Motorhaven yesterday. Couldn't be any more user freindly. I loaded the Economy file in my 03 King Ranch FX4. *******unbelievable!!!!!!!******* By far the best money I have ever spent. The overall driveability just couldn't get any better and the power is awesome.
I loaded the tune and drove around easy untill the engine warmed up (about 5 miles stop and go). Initially the engine would make good power up to 2900 and then start to bog up to about 3300 and then begin pulling hard again. I tried taking off hard from a standstill several times with the same result. I finally switched the truck off and restarted it. Presto! After that it starts out pulling hard and just NEVER quits! Was this possibly caused by the adaptive learning process? Anyone else notice this happening the first crank after an upload?

The real problem with that Vic, is that it would be false advertising. Everyone knows that if you are making 550 FT LBS of torque at 3900 RPMs you are making 408.4 HP. But of course that is besides the point. By now I'm sure you have probably anticipated my question. "How is the tune for 6.0L PSD Econoline doing?" Sorry if I missed the answer in a previous post but this thread is getting rather large.

Thanks Vic and Superchips!
Adaptive learn.
Some of the people out there that are just programming it and immediately spanking it on the dyno don't realize this.
