10% Horsepower gain????

I got my 1704 yesterday and it is lots of fun. Easy to load. Very fast!! Shifts are what I feel they should be. Just one thing I saw on the box that made me wonder. It says 10% more horsepower. If you can get 150 more horses , that would mean you had 1500 hp to start with. Am I right or wrong? Whats up with that.??????

He probably ran out of straight road, coming up on "Dead Man's Curve" and had to back out!

When did you order it? I have had one on order for over a week and no word on when I might get it. I had the Superchip in my 02 7.3L and it was great, can't wait for mine to arrive.
Thanks

I ordered mine last Thursday and the UPS man just dropped mine off minutes ago.

Looking on the back of the box it says "Gain up to 10% More Horsepower and 13% More Torque on Gas vehicles."

The next line down says "Gain up to 80 Horsepower and up to 185 ft lbs torque increase on Diesel vehicles."

The printing on the box is for the generic Microtuner tuner and not 1704 specific.

I will be installing in a few minutes

Shift stategies after programing?

Vic- will the truck continue to "learn" transmission strategies after it is programed? I talk to the dealer yesterday and they say they can always tell when a truck has been re-programed. They said it leaves a timed out code when the truck is re-programed. When asked further they said the code is the same as if the battery was disconnected. I told them I frequently disconnect my battery to re-start driver strategy programing. Can they prove that the truck has been re-programed?--Thanks

O M G!

I just got back from my first test drive. I saved the stock program and then uploaded the performance tune and took it for a quick spin.

I gave the truck a few miles to get warmed up and then began easing in a bit more throttle once the tranny temp was up to around 120+ and the water temp gauge was up to 1/4 normal temps or so.

First push to 3/4 throttle or so up one of the hills near my house resulted in a nice chirp as the truck shifted into the next gear and the acceleration up the hill was definitely better than stock. The shift points were higher and shifts were smooth and crisp.

After a few more miles and a U turn later the truck was pretty well warmed up so when I was stopped at the light on the return back up the other side of the hill I went ahead and eased it up to full throttle once I had rolled off the line (no sense burning tires).

The truck accelerated way way more than stock and reved much higher to the shift points, right around the 3900 rpm that Vic mentioned. It was still pulling quite strong into high gear and that is when it really seemed like it was starting to get serious about putting out some power. At 85 mph or so I let off due to it being time to slow down for my turn.

Next test was to drive around and climb Alga R. towards my house. There is a 0.5 mi section of the road that is given as a 10% grade with a peak of 15% when I look at my topo program. It isn't long, but it feels like forever on a bicycle let me tell you. Fortunately for my test, there is a stop light at the start of the 0.5 mi 10% grade section.

Again I eased in the throttle till I could feel the tires start to give and kept adding it till it was floored. Let me tell you, this truck hit 80 mph going up that hill faster than the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 I once test drove there.

I checked my EGT and Boost when I got home and found that the max EGT was 1163 and max boost was 30.8 lbs. This is compared to max EGT of around 1075 and max boost of 24 lbs with the stock program.

Will top off the fuel tank and start checking mileage tomorrow. After that, I'll drop back to the tow safe tune and hook up my toyhauler.

Vic, ya done good!

Daryl

They are so funny:

"You know, we can tell if it's been programmed"
"Oh, did I fail to mention that this very same code gets thrown if you disconnect the battery?"

ROFLMAO
P0603 - Keep Alive Memory (KAM) error
P1000 - More driving required. (adaptiv learn)

it takes some miles and key cycles to clear these codes.
Even if you clear them with an NGS, they will come up for a short time again before going away.

A stock truck (one that a tuner has never touched) will throw these codes if the battery is disconnected, or a small drop or spike in voltage occurs
(like if you give a jumpstart, run a power inverter, etc..).

I tested this and so did Engineering.
The codes wee coming up on brand new, off the lot trucks that had never been touched by any flash other than Fords flash.
These codes are nothing to worry about and despite what some smartass service advisor tells you, they can not tell you used a tuner.
If a stock truck throws the codes (and very regularly), they can not blame the tuner.

What tuner?
If you never say it was there, they will never know.
=o)

"learned" transmission?

thanks Vic- what about the transmission changing your shift points because it learned on the job--does it?

With fuel prices climbing every week, and a 2900 mile cumulative 15.35MPG, I'm after a bump in fuel economy. It's nice to smoke some jerk every now and then, but I have a long daily commute and want a bump in economy. I set her up this afternoon in economy mode. I'll keep you all posted.

On an 04 strategy 6 liter, towing a trailer; I have received a report of a 2MPG gain over stock with the ECON file. This is not while driving within the speed limit, either =o)
(Highway trip form Orlando to St. Louis)
This data comes from a reliable source, and backs up what I've already seen, so I trust you will probably see similar gains.

It all really depends...adaptive learning is a strange thing.

They all need to "learn" a little, but you'l notice the 1704 has pretty much "learned" right away.
...Little trade secret involved there =o)

Anyways, the tranny will still "accomodate" the new shifting over time and you may see minor changes. Many of these changes are affected by engine power output (this has a lot to do with shifting). Different ECT, IAT, EOT, load, etc... all affect power output and all have an affect on shifting.
