November chat thread
I did nothing on the 56 yesterday. Man am I tired of one step forward two steps back on this thing.
Went to my new Doctor yesterday. I think I'm gonna like him. Nothing came outta the visit so I guess I'm gonna live until I die.
Tonight we're going to my Wife's favorite place Spiro's for dinner. Today is her birthday and we try to celebrate her life on it. My original intention was to go to Barefoot Beach in Florida and see her paver I had purchased for her on the 5th Anniversary of us seeing her off but the beach was flooded in a hurricane and everything was washed away. Maybe I'll go next year.
Sounds like it may freeze this weekend, or at least frost, so I better get the indoor plants in off the patio before I leave for My Daughters on Friday.
Rich you guys powder coat too? That's something I've always wanted to do. I took the old oven outta this house when we remodeled it and put it in the barn. I just never have gotten around to doing anything about it.
Well times a wasting so I better get after it. Whatever it is.

Oh, well, I'll get Clarence back in February or March; or maybe April. One of the things that will be better this go-around is that the windshield will get sealed better. Whenever we drive it in the rain Sherry has to be wiping the water off of the dash constantly. Karl is going to have to remove the window to fix the body so I'm going to have him fill the channels in the windshield rubber with silicone when it puts the glass back in.
I have three 4' LED lights in my shop and some other miscellaneous old lights. I'm getting jealous of all of your LED lights you're showing.

Were you able to preview this online or did you have to go to a store and look at an actual copy?
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
..
atch on the 49 i built several years ago i had trouble finding any easily usable fenders.. at the time and since that truck was a complete custom job, i ordered a fairlane fiberglass frt end.. then made it a hyd. tilt and still it was less than the cost of the steel fenders.. i think i saved a couple sets of the original steel fenders i had but they needed a lot of work.. i can look for them if you cant find anything else just let me know
rich i hope your 'gout' was a bad diagnoses.. it is no fun for sure
bj sounds like everything is well up in your neck of the woods.. try to keep it that way.. ha ha ha ha
the rest of ya'll sound busy and are getting things done so keep up the good work....
I still have my original steel fenders. They are really bad, as are nearly every original fender in existence. When I took Clarence to the body shop 5 years or so ago I took those steel fenders and the new (at the time) Be Bop 'glass fenders. Tom (body shop owner) told me to take the steel fenders back home 'cause he wasn't messin' with them. Yeah; they are that bad. That's why it had fiberglass fenders. At that time you couldn't find new steel fenders but Fairlane, Be Bop, and Wescott were making 'glass fenders. Wescott is still making them but Fairlane and Be Bop are out of business. The man who owned Fairlane is on the Ford Barn and told me he had a passenger side 'glass fender left but no driver's side or one-piece. Wescott fenders are more expensive than new steel. Not much, but some. I'd be tempted to put a one-piece 'glass tilt front end on it but so far I haven't found anyone still making them.
Some company (I can't remember the name right now) is making steel patch panels for the three places on each side where most of the rust happens. Unfortunately those six patch panels cost just about as much as totally new fenders. And then you have to cut-n-paste onto your original steel fenders.
Several vendors are selling new steel fenders now. I imagine that they are probably all coming from the same supplier. I'll probably buy new steel fenders but everything else I have found in original Henry steel. That said, however, I might go with 'glass fenders again. They won't be rusting out like the steel did.

BJ Yes we can powder coat, we built a giant powder coat oven, that we move with a fork lift. It is even spray foamed on the inside and has swing open doors and a roll in hang rack. And it is a cheap powder coat machine. That complete box can get 400* on the inside, if it fits, we can powder coat it. We use a kerosene work site heater put in the end of the box for out heat source.
We even have a small item quick use one for parts that fit in the regular house oven. All you need it 110 V and 80 lbs of air. We powder coat stuff on the old oven racks, turn it to 400, put it in and 15 min later, its done. We even have clear powder coat that goes on white, but bakes to clear.
Good to hear from ya RC. It's hard to keep it cool here but I'm trying.
Hope all is well with you down there in God's country.Atch sounds like Clarance is moving right along. If you find something on this side of the state ya want let me know.
Dinner was nice. Dog got a nice lamb shank bone too!
Crazywheel. I got the issue you're talking about. They don't have great pictures of most of our folks trucks but there is a shot of Earthquake.

And this is the small set up we have. Just need 110V and a good air compressor.
