I was going to say dont they need to sit and "foment" for a while like cucumbers or eggs and then you said they do.
How long did they sit before you tried them and how long do they need to sit?
I tried eggs once and I thought they sat for a long time, dont remember how long now as it was a long time ago, but it was not long enough to get a pickle flavor.
Then again maybe it was because I was using left over pickle juice?

Yes, I would be using a battery switch. Where I could have only the deep cycle being used so I can still start the truck after draining the secondary battery. Or be charging both batteries at the same time. Etc..

My friend makes a great pickled pepper relish. It's a sweet/hot configuration. Jalapenos, habaneros, chilis, and ghost peppers. So good. I usually get a jar each season. I have no idea how it's done. Only that it tastes so good and goes well with just about anything.

Well I do not know a lot about it, but learning a little here and there as I go. Usually if I have something I want to save & last for a while like a whole bunch of jalapenos, I just slice them up, put them in a jar, and pour plain white vinegar over there. It's not really "pickling" because you don't go through any other process but it accomplishes the same thing. But I have learned actual pickling uses more water than vinegar so it can be quite strong to just do it straight. But it's really easy and the jalapeno slices still taste great on a salad or sandwich.

The pickled pepper relish sounds good. Let me tell you about one I make called "Cowboy Candy". You take your sliced jalapenos and boiled them in a solution of apple cider vinegar and sugar. In fact it's more sugar than vinegar, like 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar. Let them simmer for a few minutes and then spoon then jalapenos into a jar and pour the "syrup" over it. Suggests to let them sit for a couple of weeks but when I make them both my daughters will kill the jar I make for them within a week. But the downside is this will stink up the house!!

I do sautéed onions that goes on everything also, Mary and I went thru 2 large onions in a week. I had it with egg, cheese, leftover turkey burger in a wrap for breakfast one morning.
Onions cut up, white vinegar, Chilli powder, crushed red pepper, black pepper, ketchup. I just add everything as I see fit, the ketchup is added last after the onions cook down.
Damn I am hungry now

That sounds like it would be awesome on a burger, I might try to make something like that. You just do up enough of a batch to fill a small jar and keep it in the fridge?

I haven't gotten much of anything done this week. Next week is that "heat dome" they have been warning about with the weekend being the hottest 2 days. I need to finish up anything currently in-progress on the blue pickup and push it back in the garage so I can get the 85 Mustang out, I still want to work on the fuel gauge and the instrument cluster and a few other things. Maybe have it ready to go to the track this fall. Which reminds me I need to give some more attention to the car trailer which hasn't been touched in months.

Too many projects; and not enough time and money to tackle them all!

Hey!, That's what my buddy calls his. Must be the method of pickling. Because he uses many different kinds of peppers but adds the sugar and stuff you were saying. He does let his sit for some time. I don't know how long.

That also sounds very good and would be great on a burger or in meatloaf.

On the onions they can go on anything you want burgers, dogs I put them in my egg, cheese & cubed pork loin wrap for breakfast one morning.
I dont care for pork chops but for something different than chicken & beef, so I even had the onions on them.
You can eat them hot or cold but hot I think is the best.
Maybe not in meatloaf, too much work for me LOL, but on top when on the plate. Going to have to try that next time I make meatloaf.

They cook down but you can store them in anything, jar or plastic container and put in fridge.
Last batch I made they stayed in the pot only a few days till gone so no need to put into anything else.

Dave do you like to use plain yellow onions, vidalia, white onions, or red onions?

Thursday I had an eye doctor appointment and could barely see to make it home afterwards, they put 3 different drops in to do different things, and I was very dilated and blurry sight. Had a hard time working Thursday night because it remained blurry, then Friday my left eye was bothering me so bad, maybe from a combination of the drops and also from the poking and prodding. I went to the grocery store and the sunlight was so painful I had to take off my sunglasses and put my palm over my left eye just to make it across the parking lot. People musta thought my dog died or something because I had tears coming out of that eye for a good 10 minutes. After sleeping 8 hours my eyes feel fine today and no longer blurry.

I got out and did a little bit of body work on the blue pickup. Just some followup welding and grinding from the patch piece I put in a couple of weeks ago. Too hot to stay out very long, I might have done 30 minutes worth of work the whole entire day. But at least now I got it ready for the next step which is making the cab corner piece fit and welding it in. Maybe tomorrow!

Any onion I guess but red as that only gets used in salads raw, think I go with yellow when I get them.
I went looking to see if I had directions / measurements for the onions but did not find any and dont remember if I ever had any as I got the recipe from Mary's sisters out on Long Island maybe 15 years ago.
I just kind of wing it like any good chief dose on how much of anything I add. You dont want it too wet so not a lot of vinegar but it will boil off as it cooks same with the ketchup but it will also boil down as it cooks.

Your eye doctor did not have then cardboard dark glasses to wear after they do that? I have a pair in each car for when they do that and if I can remember I also wear sunglasses.
After 15 years of testing and injections in my eye you kind of get use to the poking and what not.
The first numbing drops is so they can take the eye pressure and they either blow air to measure or touch the eye and that one works the best for my.
They take a picture of the bad eye each time I go but every 6 months they dilate both eyes to take the pictures and the 2nd flash is so bright you cant see for 5 mins. that is the one that hurts me even more than the needle.

Most of the time after the eye doctor visit I get breakfast at home and then to bed for a few hours to rest the eye. As you found out you cant really do anything as you cant see and I find my eye hurts longer if I dont go to bed I think because you are straining it to see. If I am lucky when I get up the eye is not hurting too bad and not red from blood if they hit a blood vein like the last time I went, it happens.
Think is with the injection I cant lift anything heavy or bend over for a long time as it can also break the vein and bleed so there is not much I can do but sleep

Wait till you get "floaters" in the eyes. For me they look like the gnats that fly around your head in the summer. Thing is I cant tell if it is the bugs or floaters till the bugs bang into me LOL
Looking at my laptop screen I have the same problem, bug on screen or floater - it sucks getting old.

I have been staying inside where it is cool. I should take the tractor with trailer around the yard and pickup so limbs and larger sticks but even too hot for that or is that laziness

I found the 08 crown Vic Interceptor alternator at o'reilly's for $250. I think I'm going to get it. I also need a new battery.

I'll post up if it works or not. Might not get to it this week though.

Dave when you describe how you do your onions it reminded me of the tangy red onions they use on sabrette hot dogs. I love those things, very tasty. Knowing how much onions cook down I guess this jar probably has 5 onions in it. lol

The eye doctor gave me disposable sunglasses to get me home, not cardboard but just rolled up plastic 1 piece. The curliness of it keeps it pressed against your temples so it stays in place. They were very dark and the light did not bother me on the way home from the eye doctor, what bothered me then was my vision was blurry. Probably a result of one of the 3 different drops. But the following day my left eye was so sensitive to light that it was painful even with the glasses on.

I do have the floaters now so I know what you mean. Were not noticable before the appointment, maybe all the poking and prodding affected them. I keep thinking I see a bug on the floor then turn my head and there's nothing there!

I tried to do a little bit of body work on the cab corner, but only mixed results. I tacked in a few places along the side, planning then to next tap it into place better as I went to then tack in the other side, but a couple of my tacks didn't hold and it pulled away in one spot. I'm going to give it more attention soon but my cardboard is soaked from the storms last night and night before. I forgot to pick it up when I was done for the day now it's a mess. And I remembered how it doesn't take long being hunched over the little seat before my back starts hurting. The amount of time it has taken me to do an hour worth of work is just a reminder that I'm losing my motivation on this truck. If I can just finish up everything that is currently taken apart and clean it up, push it back in the garage for the time being, and tackle it again in a few months.

James I hope that project goes well and that it turns out to be a simple swap with plenty of power!

Yea $250 is about what I seen online for that ALT.

I did not know there was onions you could buy like that will look for them next time I shop.
We finished off the last of the onions last night on beef patties for diner.

Then fancy glasses is what I have in each car as I dont know what one I might take to the eye doctor.
I put them on first then my normal glasses over them and drive straight home and to bed asap.
I am thinking the light thing was the eye was still dilatated a little, still got them fancy sunglasses
Dont you just love the "bug" that moves and you dont see it when you look at it
What is bad is we got them little fly's in the house from a few melons we had so I dont know what is real and not

From last Thru till yesterday we had 4 kittens, all black so could not tell them apart, that had to be bottle fed every 4 hours.
As much I like kittens they were a little too young for me and thing Mary also.
We were not getting to bed till midnight when we are normally in at 10pm. Mary gets up at 4am to feed ours and I would hit the gym, so she would feed the kittens at that time but I could not get my butt to the gym.
Got to force myself to get to the gym tomorrow. I also need to do food shopping but I think before then I want to hit John Deere and get service kits for the tractor as the motor oil / filter needs changing and I need to adjust the valves. The transmission oil & filter should be changed too as it has been a few years since done.

Just been to hot to do anything outside, took 2 days to spray home made weed / grass killer. 2 gallons did not go too far so will need to get more supplies to make more.

I don't know if they sell those onions here, at least not anywhere I shop (Food Lion, Wally World). Maybe at some of the better grocery stores though. We usually have someone from NY bring them down when they visit. Which reminds me, Tom is coming again next month so I will text his wife to get her to buy me a jar.

That's a lot of work for those little kittens, what happened to their mother? I don't know what I am going to do with the cats around here, the food bowl for my garage cat has attracted 3 strays. I have to figure a way to catch them and either bring them to the pound or get them fixed or find a way to rehome them, because I don't want or need 4 cats and I surely don't want to end up like my neighbor who had 13 at one point.

I went to the eye doctor for my right eye, and since then the left eye has been the one giving me problems. That was the one very sensitive to the light last Friday and then last night when I woke up it was so blurry I could hardly see to work last night. It's still a little blurry today but not as bad. I must have slept wrong like with some part of pillow pressing against my eye maybe.

I went food shopping and checked the onions and you want yellow onions or vidalia onions but I would go for the yellow first.

Yes a lot of work with the kittens. I think 2 would be the max next time if wil have to do it again.
The fosters found the 4 by a dumpster at work I think it was and because of the heat took them in.
She looked for the mom for a few days but never seen her.
She said she I other half will keep 2 of them and the other 2 will go up for adoption after they all get fixed and good bill of health.

We are fostering 3 other kittens, 2 brothers and the 1 we found by my car trailer.
Wife said the brothers get fixed in a few weeks and then go to Pet Smart for adaption.
Then ours will get fixed and go when old enough as he is younger than the other 2.

On your cats the biggest thing is to get them fixed so you dont end up with more.
Do you know what Wayn did with his kitten / cat issue? I think he got 1 or 2 fixed and maybe they took off or something got them I am not sure.
I know our group did not have the room, like now, to take them in
The biggest problem is there is nothing in place to help get cats / kittens fixed because for non-group people to get them fixed is not cheap.
Some groups will trap, fix and release them back were trapped as they keep rodents at bay from getting into houses, garages and cars / trucks and causing problems by eating wiring and other things.

On your eye I would call the doctor and let him / her know what is going on, better safe that sorry.
My dad was blind in 1 eye from when he was born but can tell you even with the problem I have with the one it is no fun with sight problems and more so if there was something that could have been done.

John, is there something going on with your vision? Or is this just a routine Dr visit? Seems like you are having an unusual amount of discomfort for a regular exam.

I have an old utility trailer. It currently has studs and hubs welded to the the frame. I'd like to put leaf springs on to get better height and suspension. Is it as easy as just welding a leaf and axle assembly on? Or do I need to make brackets, hangers, etc?
