First, here is an image explaining wheel offset:

Then here is the effect of a wider wheel while keeping the tire the same:

In your case, you are using a wheel significantly narrower than the tire so the tire's sidewalls are bulging out the sides.

As you can see, keeping the tire the same, you can still play around with wheel width and offset to make sure nothing rubs. Be warned though. Too much negative offset like the brodozers with their brakes completely outside the wheel wreaks havoc on wheel bearings.
Thank you guys for helping me figure all this out. I knew nothing about tires before this. There's a lot more that goes into it than I thought. I do not want to mess up my wheel bearings all the time, so I will either stick with stock offset with a little bit of rubbing or go slightly outside of stock offset if possible. Believe me, I absolutely hate tires that stick out way past the fender well. I think it looks terrible. That's just my opinion of course. I would hate to have tires offset to the point where they were sticking out like that. I just don't want any rubbing if possible. And going by the physics of how the tire will be square or round, I would want the wider of the 8-10 inch rim widths so as to round off the edge of the tires. So I need either 16 or 17 by 10 inch rims for the more curved edges. Thank you for posting this. It makes a lot of sense and I never thought of it that way. A couple of people I was reading about said 10 in wide rims looked a little too wide for 315s. Almost like the rim was wider than the tires. Would it be better for me to go with 9 in wide rims? Forgive me for asking so many questions!

Both 9" and 10" wide wheels should work fine for that width of tire from a tire performance point of view. My philosophy is form follows function so a machine that is set up to run right will naturally look good.

Well I was trying to keep you in the same rims…. That’s why I was looking at things closer to the 10.5-11.5 range. Figured you could have your lift with taller tires but not rub or buy rims.

This is getting expensive fast.

Again, I’m not a truck tire guy so take everything I say very lightly.

Of course you could always remove the lift and go with the 285/75 on your current wheels. I know you don’t want to but I have to tease you about it before you spend a bunch of extra money due to keeping the lift.

I could just do that. 34 x 10 1/2's and keep my rims.

This is getting expensive fast.

You said that right!

I Know it! I would need new rear blocks, shorter end links, and new shocks all the way around. Not as bad but still pricey! I think I'll wear my current tires out first before I do anything!

You are on the right track regarding avoiding rubbing the leaf springs, especially if you tow a lot. Each time we move our 5th wheel, the wheel goes to full lock when pulling out of or into a parking spot.

These trucks are not known for their tight turning radius and I would not want to hinder it any further.

You will get it figured out with the guidance of the FTE community.

Paging @Dan V . Dan V to the white courtesy phone to talk about his Super 60 conversion. I am still amazed by how tight his truck turns.

Ideally, you want the tire to be just a little wider than the wheel. Too wide for the wheel will result in accelerated tire wear and ultimately a ‘squishy’ ride (because lower air pressure is required to prevent wearing the center of tread). Too narrow for the wheel is called ‘stretched’ and people who do this should not be allowed to reproduce...

Whats the status of the $200 wheels and tires from your buddies wreck?

I have a set of 16x10 aftermarket wheels here you can have, but you’ll need lug nuts for them. They are chromed aluminum and the chrome is peeling in some spots. Just like the rest of your project, with a little elbow grease these could be gems. If we can remove the chrome, I can powder coat these any color you can imagine, but a ‘black chrome’ would be on top of my list.

Wider axle, curved radius arms, more clearancing at the axle shaft u-joints, longer throw steering gear....

A whole different project. Yes, we should definitely do that to your truck. Are we having trouble convincing Mrs FordTruckNeverfinished?

I think you got that flipped.

I would love to have something like that on my truck, but I JUST got it to where I don't have any PMS/projects on the horizon and I can deal with the "battleship" turning radius for now. It would be nice at times when moving the 5th wheel around, but it is manageable.

Black chrome, anthracite, gun metal etc have been on my short list of wheel colors for nearly 2 decades. I wanted some black chrome BBS wheels for the Audi S4 I had, but that dream did not materialize. They look great when on the right vehicle.

I'm still gonna be allowed to produce then!

Whats the status of the $200 wheels and tires from your buddies wreck?

I Must have wrote wrong earlier..... he wants 1200$ for wheels and tires. They are 20 inch rims. Not sure what size rubber is on there yet. Hoping to find out today!

I Don't know what to say. Thanks you so much. Really. Thank you! Let me pay for the powder coat at LEAST!

I've got to find something to do for you to show my appreciation! All of you guys help me so much and I truly appreciate everything y'all do and I wish I new how to repay all of you!

I agree, black chrome sounds amazing! Especially on a white truck!

Yeah man...that was a nice upgrade. I run a 275/70-18...so I'm not "in" on the conversation about these big whee/tire/lift things. At the stock ride height with the OEM coils, the 275/70-18's will just barely rub on the inner fender at the cab side.

Does the coil spring front ride better than the leaf? Maybe...but that might just be in my head. It does turn a whole bunch tighter than the leaf front though.

It would be more like this as we don't get that white stuff on the ground much around here. Although, southern Alabama has a lot of mud holes. If you haven't seen some of the videos of the mud rallies/fest in north FL and south AL, they are pretty entertaining.
