I agree that it don't look good hanging there. If it was mine I would fold it over some where it is torn and get some one to sew a seam a gross it and hang it outside on the building or on a flag pole. On another note, I priced having the building I am building done with that spray foam and they told me about 6,500 to spray a 24x40.Your's is looking good too
Thanks guys, that's what I was thinking as well. I just wanted confirmation. I was hoping it could hang it in the shop, it's just too big to fit.
It would take one big flag pole to fly, not really suited for a home. With the tears and it's size, it's probably best to retire it.
I will get pictures of the doors after work today.
No, Joe, that flag is too large to be displayed as you propose. If it is damaged beyond repair, it should be disposed of with dignity. A damaged flag should not be flown but may be repaired so long as the proportions are not changed.
So, I need an opinion on decorations. I have a flag that is 8'X12' and yesterday I was looking at it and thought it would be good to cover a portion of a wall in the shop.
Well 8' it a bit too tall.
So, should I keep this here or not? I also though about hanging it on the main support beams in the middle of the shop That would really split the shop, but it is probably too big for that.
Now, why do I have a flag that big? Over 25 years ago I worked at a company that had this flag. It got caught on the state flag pole and we had to get the fire department to free it. Since it is torn at the bottom now, they said to just throw it away. Of course I couldn't let that happen and planned on giving it to a local Boy Scout troop for when they retire flags. After 9/11 we hung it on a wall in the hall at my office until the fire department said it was a fire hazard and made us take it down.
So, stay or go? Is it bad form to have the bottom portion resting on the girt?
Joe, is there enough room between the door and your big deck shelf to hang the flag vertically? It looks like there might be, but it may hang down and cover your outlet and switches. That could look good if it fits.
This hangs in my garage... Originally hung in the Tinshop where I worked probably since the 40's. Company sign man painted it, company carpenter framed it and it was hung in the Tin shop. When they abandoned the building I took it down
Couldn't imagine it being thrown in a dumpster...Probably a lot of you guys don't remember a 48 star flag.
I took a couple of pictures of the doors. They would have looked better with windows, but that was an extra $600 I didn't feel I should spend.
The doors follow the roof line when they go up. The do block the lights, but that's not that big of a deal, I have plenty of light in the shop.

It might be difficult, because of it's size, but what if you fold it properly and display it that way? My dad's "coffin flag" is in an oak display box.
You could sit it on a high shelf.
I just realized you now need to some landscaping. A little backfill, grass, trees and shrubs. Maybe one of the guys that do the Photoshop thing can spruce it up with some pictures😊
Wow that really finishes it off Joe! I think that space on the right side of your garage doors would be perfect for your flag! God bless America😊
I have something planned for that spot. I'm going to put our barn quilt there. It is currently at our daughters place (my in-laws old place) This 4X4 one I had made for our 25th anniversary. It matches the 6X6 one at the family farm in North Missouri. That was a 60th anniversary present for Gwen's parents

They are actually called carbon oak. It's a dark grey with a little weathered look.

That's a good idea. We have my father in laws coffin flag in our computer room in the house.

I noticed that to when I looked at the picture. I hadn't really noticed before.

Yeah, this is a bit of a sore point. The concrete guys were supposed to do some dirt work but never did. I need to get some fill dirt for a few spots and smooth out some places.
