Around here it's one of those things you buy hoping to never have to use it. A few years back when we had a couple of glancing blows from hurricanes we were without power for 6 and 5 days respectively. I have a 5k portable, but that thing's loud as hell and it doesn't meet the needs. We are on well and septic, so it sucks not to be able to shower and have running water. I will be happy if it only has to run for 15 minutes every Saturday @ 9AM like it's supposed to for the weekly "exercise" from here on out.

I had a 3000 portable in the garage during the Stanley cup playoffs. My power kept going out so I used it to run the tv. Don’t mess with a Canuck when his team is in the playoffs. Lol
Well and septic didn’t even cross my mind. My acreage is on the edge of town so I have town water and sewer which was the main reason I bought it the place. That area has problems with well systems. If the power goes out in town, the town doesn’t have full backup power at the plant so are water goes out as well.
