Around here its a requirement, on a permitted job that involves a bathroom remodel or on new work, they wont pass final inspection if the toilet base isn't caulked.
Is that on a house with a basement? Does Cali have many basements or are they more slab foundations? I know building codes up here pretty good but I know we don’t build even close to the same as down there in certain areas.
I used to watch Mike Holmes a lot and I remember him saying to not caulk or silicone it so I didn’t.
I thought it might make more sense telling a story with pictures considering your audience. Then again I didn't know snowflakes and hillbillies were a thang either. Who knew?

silicone or not. Sherry Holmes. Just had to go there didn't we?

Most residential building around here is on a perimeter foundation, although some homes are on slab. The most recent project I worked on was on slab. I dont see basements here that often, but in other parts of the states its very common. Ofcourse we do have 2+ story homes. I believe the code comes from the IRC and I'm not sure if there are any exceptions to it. Not sure if all areas follow IRC code.
I used to watch Mike Holmes and think to myself how strict Canadian code was compared to here. Certain things he would do I have never seen done here.
We're starting to shop for 5th wheels again. Somebody slap me.
Sucker for punishment. On the pipeline last year, I got to tour some amazing 5ers that the inspection group guys had. These were $100,000 units. What surprised me was how low the quality was. They sure were unbelievably nice but the leather furniture in one was falling apart after a few weeks and another one had insulation missing under the toilet trap. Missing insulation is a big problem up here. I understand the quality will be lower than residential grade due to weight cutting measures but the cabinetry wasn’t even screwed and glued. Tiny staples help all the bottoms of the cupboards together. Despite the quality problems, man these thing were tricked out and the storage ideas they came up with are unbelievable. I could of lived in one of the rear storage compartments of one guys 5er (raised rear living room)
Im sure there area still quality made units but they are almost like unicorns. I had a heck of a time buying a quality built travel trailer in 2013. I chose a better quality build over my style preferences and I’m glad I did. I’ve seen cheap jayco jayflights grey holding tanks fall off because they are only attached to a shelf mount instead of strapped. What a mess that was for my buddy. All the drains and vents had to be replaced.

Holmes was a little misleading. Near the end of his show, he would use the most expensive products and tell people they were a no brainer. Sorry Mike, Incant afford to spend 10k just on framing and insulating a 8x10 bathroom. He definitely went overboard but he also did it right. With the freeze/thaw and the ground movement we have because of it, the building codes are strict. Unfortunately, we have a problem with the code inspectors missing simple things and 50% of the time, building codes aren’t good enough. Anytime a bedroom is built over an unheated garage, that room is always freezing in the winter. They are never properly insulated. Townhouse condominiums are famous for that problem.

I hear you there. There are toooooo many threads about the "joys" of RV ownership in the towing forum. We talked about buying a place in North Ga. but we still have places out west we want to go. Plus we travel with our dog and sometimes it's hard to find a dog friendly place to stay. I dunno, pros and cons both ways.

I really enjoy my camper. I use it a lot for working out on major project. Out of the last 3 years, I darn near lived in it for about 1 year and I was really comfortable. That being said, these days, it’s a crap shoot. Every guy I know with the enormous 5ers, they all wish they went smaller. That’s got to mean something.

We are looking at the 32' ATC toy hauler if we go that route and maybe something from GD that size if we don't get the SXS. The ATC isn't fancy and has a pretty good reputation. Plus it has a massive payload. I'm not buying a dually just so we can get a house-sized camper. There's only the two of us old peoples.

I wasn’t a big fan of the GD travel trailers I was in. The quality was a little lower than what I was used to but the 5ers could be a different story. It’s almost like GD tried to hard to make it look like a quality unit but the cabinetry construction stood out to me. That was a few years ago and the popularity of them here is sky rocketing. 32’ would be a nice relaxing towing experience. Guys up here are hauling the big 46’ 5ers with a SRW up here. I think they are nuts. What are you going to load into the toy hauler? Bikes?
How did I miss that post. I have never been lucky enough to have an attractive female worker on the job.
Last summer. I was stuck in the field office trailer with 4 hot girls aged 25-32. 3 of them talked dirty all day long, 12hrs days, 6 days a week. The struggle was real. 😊
