I can't claim a speed reduction, since mine was not fast when I joined up not long ago (but before the update) and seems pretty much the same. Same as a few other forums I've been on in the past, but not recently.
My speed issue seems to be waiting while it's loading content. Probably the ads that a full membership gets rid of? I don't know, but as I open a page, start reading the first post, I get about halfway through the first paragraph and the whole page literally JUMPS back to the top of the page and makes me scroll down to where I was again.
Been doing this since day 1 and now that I have cookies it's just a little worse. I'll be reading a post over to review it, when the page JUMPS all the way down to the most recent post, because the computer knows that's where I last left off. Too bad that's not where I want to be.
But anyway, that's not why I popped in tonight. Just noticed that the "recall saved content" or whatever it's called, does not work.
Most of the time there is no button to click on. I will see the quick pop-up that says "Auto saved" or something to that effect, but there is usually no button to click to bring it back if I lose it.
Like right now, the gray bar just below this posting window is blank. Like most of the time...
However, just a few minutes ago I noted the pop-up saying that my typing had been saved. This time there was a renew button to click, so I erased the text I'd just typed and clicked on the "bring it back dead or alive" button. Well imagine my surprise when it brought back a post I'd made in another thread several days ago instead of what I'd just typed! (edit: turns out that it was in the same thread, and from this morning. Not another thread and a few days ago like I thought)
Or is that how it's supposed to work? I've never used it before, so wasn't sure.
Regarding the infinite scroll function, I do kind of like it in some uses. But it should never have taken the place of the "page listing" boxes. For any thread longer than 2 pages, what happens when you want to re-visit just the first page? Or worse still, just the page two or three previous to the one you're on?
Scrolling up is not slow of course, but it's awkward. And to get all the way back to the first page of a 50 page thread, it's easier to go back to the forum listing first, then click on a page number. That "easier" being a relative thing of course.
I've had many instances where just being able to click on the old page number, rather than the convenience of infinite scroll.
Maybe you can change it so that any thread over two or three pages then, can have the page numbers appear still, in addition to being able to infinite scroll? If not, then I can now see why one would want to turn off the infinite scroll feature for their daily use.
It's a clever tool, but one that unfortunately got rid of other clever tools.
Oh, and this forum update thread is the only place I ever see "restore saved content" in the reply box margin. Until just now I have not seen a way to restore lost typing for weeks.
Luckily I CTRL-C all my responses two or three times while I'm typing when I remember. Saved me a few times now.
Well, luckily for me anyway! Can't speak for the rest...
Found another potential glitch. You can't quote yourself from a previous post.
I tried working around using the format from memory ("[Quote; blah blah blah]" etc) but did not have a code number. So I quoted someone else and used copy-n-paste with their name and substituted my own.
Any reason for this limitation? Or just an oversight?

Sure you can. That hasn't changed.

This is but one simple example. Many times a user will format their post to present lengthy information in an easily read format.
And those quotes are from this thread. The below quote is from a completely different thread where the multi-quote button was clicked, and then "allowed" to be posted here too.

I got what you were saying, thanks. However I tried multiple times in that other thread and could not get the "quotes" to show.
Now, I just tried it here and it worked just fine.
So I'll keep doing my thing as normal (I don't quote myself normally anyway!) and pop back in if I see it happen again.

Mighta been a temporary glitch? Who knows nowadays!
Besides, when we quote ourselves, it's like talking to ourselves and answering too...kind nutty, eh? Then again, I have never been accused of being normal.
