Anyone know when the OTA (Over the Air) update will start flowing? I am comfortable flashing the firmware via USB but would like to see this OTA process and how it works. I have my truck configured to connect to my home wifi when parked at home so it has plenty of internet connectivity.
Although I agree the Internet based GPS maps service is always more up to date (Apple Maps / Google Maps) I disagree that the OEM Navi is worthless. For one thing, it provides a map without needing to be linked to a phone at all, and provides it on the main screen. It's always available. A lot of times I'll head down a road and although I'm familiar with the area, I'm not familiar with the road. It's nice to see where it goes on the map. I've also had zero trouble using voice commands to easily find a destination if I'm Craigslist hunting, etc.
i would also agree on this! I had a few plowing property's I had to hit for the first time and had no clue how to get there. Oem nav is sweet for stuff like this . Said the address and bam was perfect ! Well worth the money and my phone is not tied up with the gps

Just download your maps of your entire region, state, whatever, and you'll always have Google maps with or without service.

When 2.1,-2.3 were released, they usually start will the updates via USB and OTA updates follow a few weeks later. I`ve done one of each with the last one which was 2.3, I updated via USB. The one before that was done OTA and it took a couple of hours.
Keep in mind that even though you have your vehicle connected to your home WiFi, the OTA update can take as little as and hour to as long as 2 weeks to complete said update so you will have to be patient or prepare to be frustrated to very angry because this is what many people have experienced.
My 2016 Audi had factory google maps. You even had you choice between map view (traditional view) or satellite view that used google earth data. It had to be linked to your cell provider plan but actually used very little data. Voice recognition is way better in with sync 3 but the maps were incredible in the Audi.
The official Ford Sync 3.0 update available this AM on ford’s site....
Wow.
I checked earlier this morning a little before 5AM and it wasn`t there but now it is.
I figured something was up starting yesterday because I couldn`t log onto the Ford Owner website.
So do you still have to use a usb like the older generation myford touch or can you just use the wifi feature to update?
The Ford owner website says USB and this is what was said during the last two updates but about 2-4 weeks later after the update was announced, some were able to update OTA so it can be hit or miss and depending on how lucky or unlucky you are, the OTA update can take anywhere from one hour to two weeks to complete and yes, you heard me right...two weeks.
Well, installed the 3.0 update during my lunch break. Took about 20-25 minutes to do the complete install. Unfortunately still no Waze access it seems. They did move the heated steering wheel icon to the home screen, just as you can do with Forscan, but did not add the heated/cooled seat icons which I thought was a bit weird.
Edit - I also noticed the setting to control Waze from car unit is not longer an option. I guess this was removed on one of the recent automatic updates for the app.

I updated mine this morning using the USB upgrade method and it was finished in about 20-25 minutes. No problems at all but I have not seen anything on my truck that is a change from before.
Can anyone who's already done the update confirm what the build number is of one is?
I did the unofficial update to Version 3.0 Build 17276 a while back and I'm wondering if the official release is the same thing or newer. Thanks in advance.
