Looking at the specs for the stock 9140 halogen bulb, it is rated at 700 lumens.

I just double checked my order and I got the 9005 headlight bulb .

Hopefully I didn’t make a mistake, I ordered the 9005 fog light bulb. I was able to get the Beamtech H13 headlights for $31.99 on Amazon.

Looks like H13's are back in stock. I never thought when I started this thread that it would still be alive this far down the line.

So I just switched my order to the ones without the fans. For 9005 bulbs in the fog lights, should I get the fogs or the headlights? I ordered the fogs.

I went with a 9145 Alla from Amazon for fogs. They're OK, but seem to be a bit overpowered by the Beamtech headlight low beams.
Check through this thread. Other guys are reporting better light from different bulbs for fogs.

I went with the Beamtech fogs for my fog lights. They are close to stock level lighting, but the color matches. Even though the headlight version fits and puts out more light, I will probably stick with these. They do illuminate the ground close to the vehicle where the headlights miss (especially high beams) and they don't put out hardly any heat. This latter point is important to me, as the stock bulbs did make the lens pretty hot and I think that contributed to some cracking and aging of that lens.

Thanks! Exactly what I wanted to know.

Just for reference, the stock 9140 halogen fog light bulb dissipates 40W while the 9005 headlight bulb dissipates 25W and the 9005 fog light bulb dissipates approximately 15W (assumed based on 30W equivalent). So either choice is significantly cooler than the stock halogen bulb.

So you're saying the 9005 Beamtech fogs I ordered won't be as bright as a Beamtech 9140?

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. All I was trying to point out is that the stock halogen bulbs are way hotter (40W) than either the LED 9005 headlight (25W) or the LED 9005 fog light (15W) so either bulb will not damage the fog lamp reflector or lens. Do not mistake wattage for lumens. The LED bulbs produce way more lumens for the power they dissipate.

I have not seen a 9140 bulb made by Beamtech. The Beamtech 9005 fog lights seems to be the best choice if you want about the same brightness as the stock halogen bulbs. The 9005 headlight bulb is going to be significantly brighter than stock. I am concerned that they will be too bright and create a problem for oncoming traffic. It takes too long to find the fog light switch so turning them off/on for oncoming traffic is not realistic in my opinion.

Stanbro--
Are you sure of the wattage numbers you used for the two Beamtechs? I thought the headlights were 8000 lumen and the fogs were 800 lumens, so I'd expect about a 1:10 reduction in wattage, correct? Either way, I agree with your point that fog lights as bright as headlights might be a problem for oncoming traffic.

Actually, after a closer look at the product descriptions for the two bulbs on Amazon, I am not sure. I sent an email to Beamtech asking them to clarify the specs of the two. If they respond, I will report back.

The response from Beamtech was essentially gibberish and did not include any specs.

This is what I asked:
Please clarify the power dissipation and lumens for both the 9005 headlight and 9005 fog light. How can the headlight dissipate 25W and produce 8000 lumens while the fog light dissipates 30W and produces only 800 lumens?

Here is the response:
Although the fog light and the headlight have the same csp chip the 30w of the fog light is the theoretical value. But because it didn't have the heat sink, so when the system test out the high temperature, the power would decline. Therefore, the lumens is smaller. If the headlight (with heat sink) can be install in your headlight housing, we suggest you bought the headlight, because it is brighter.

LED output drops as temperatures rise. Therefore a heat sink is a great idea for any LED that runs very long. Some headlights use fans in lieu of a heat sink. I’m not familiar with their products but apparently the headlight has a heat sink and the fog light does not.
