This morning for me there was an interesting stat on the TV. It hit me because my son, wife and I have had this discussion in the past, when discussing things in front of his children, our grandkids who are in or have graduated college. There is so much they were never taught.
A few years back when visiting our daughter up in Boston we were having dinner with two of her friends, Canadians who just got USA citizenship. They worked in the financial industry and it made sense for them tax wise. It was one of the better discussions of the founding principles of this country, they had better knowledge then some of my neighbors and friends.
A recent study shows this, people over 65 years of age overall score 74% on a US civics test. People under 45 years score 19%. For me it tells of why we are in the state of affairs today.
Not bragging, not intending for anyone to show results, but I didn’t think any of these were that challenging. Tomorrow our son and his offspring should be coming up to celebrate my wife’s birthday, weather dependent. So I might see how they do, or I might get voted off the island.
Speaking of scams... Have I told you guys about my purchased-new Samsung Fridge, that apparently has AI (Artificial Intelligence) such that IT decides when or when not to make Ice???! Like: Sammy - hey I know I have drinking problem, but don't hold back on the ice to punish me...!
Seriously, it made ice just fine for close to 4 years, and that's when the AI kicked in (or was that AA), and it just quit making ice. No, let me change that, it wouldn't repeat the same way of not making ice, as I went through my testing (clever Koreans). I bought a new Ice Maker and it did the same random things in at least, if not even a more, random order. So watched a lot of You Tube, read a lot on the net and found a couple of things: One was to put di-electric grease on all the contacts of the Ice maker (which I did on the old unit and then re-installed), and 2) Many functions of the ice maker are CONTROLLED BY THE MAIN PROCESSOR!!! I kid you not, only Samsung can take a VERY simple device and make it unworldly complicated... Left the Ice off all last winter. Then in Spring I hit the on button, and I guess Sammy figured I'd learned my lesson and STARTED MAKING ICE, not just for a day or a week -- all summer and into fall.
Then the AI kicked in again and he decided I was too out of control, and stopped making ice again... I just pulled the whole dang back side apart and got all the numbers off the motherboard, plus cleaned it for good measure (If I could have done a mind-wipe I would have). And now we're back to our little chess game. Maybe his Logic voltage is low but I couldn't find a place to plug in either Torque or Forscan to check...
I had a problem like this on a gate opener where it would go whack-o in winter. Turned out little spiders were stringing Tiny threads of web on the board back plane -- so when it got humid enough lots of components got cross-talk. Was king of hoping to find a thread of web on Sammy's back plane, but didn't see any -- I vacuumed both sides and used canned air to blow off both sides...
I missed 2 on the civics test (Madison and Jury) - does that mean I'll be deported? Maybe they could at least deport me out of CA... The Jury one was a trick question: all of my over-70 friends don't have to do Jury duty, does that mean they've lost their citizenship?!
Keeping an eye on Sammy, but I feel more like he's watching me... Hal, is that you???
have you checked the ice level sensor?? that is if it even have one?? those ones with the ice buckets in the door all use the same circuit boards with a infrared laser light to tell when the bucket gets full... theyre known for going bad after a couple years.. ours did... mfg wanted $50 for the set... i got the replacement boards on ebay for $15.. 10 mins later with a phillips and makes ice again...

No ours is too fancy for something like light sensor... It has an arm that it drops down to "feel" for ice, then it raises back up... Give me one of the good old: arm up = enough ice, pull arm up = don't make ice, arm down = make ice... Grrrrr... I may just buy a new board and a 3rd ice maker... :-/
Thanks though,
Scott
our old fridge had one of those... leaked out the back when it went to refill the cube tray to make more... the bucket below would have a chuck of solid ice in the back of it where the water dripped during the filling..

If you got under 6 you'd have to stay in CA.
It ain't a high bar..... but it's not multiple choice.
I didn't have those questions on my roulette page.

That actually was one of the ways it would fail - overfilling the ice tray and a big block of ice in the bin and frozen trails of water down into the bottom of freezer. At least it quit doing that... Wife is ready to replace fridge. Right now we're running the ice maker in the RV (just when I thought: who'd need an ice maker in an RV?! Well we do...). We have a garage fridge - probably 30 year old Whirlpool, top freezer/bottom fridge -- I'm, thinking of running a water line to it and buying the ice maker kit for it! At least it'd be closer than the Motorhome...!
we need to get another fridge... currently ours is one of them KitchenAid's side by sides... the freezer sides pretty empty because of the 2 deep chest freezers (smaller one inside and a larger one in the garage)... but the fridge sides so full you have to pay re-organize the fridge game every time you go shopping or have leftovers to put in there...

We also have a dedicated freezer in the garage. When we 1st moved up here the closest real market was 8 miles away and the Wife liked to shop at Costco and buy in bulk, so we got the freezer right away. Then with our SxS (only a few fridges will fit the custom cabinet of the preowned house we bought) - we ran into the same issue as you, not enough fridge side space. Hence the good ol' Whirlpool... I bet the ice maker kit for it is cheaper than a board for the Sammy....
I tried a reset on the main board, so we'll see how his IQ is now....
lol.. reason we got 2 deep chest freezers is during the few year move there was stuff split between the 2 houses... dad was living in NC full time while me and mom were still working and living in VB so she could get to retirement age and file for full SSI benefits... so we got dad a smaller one to put frozen food stuff in... (plus those deep chest ones dont do the freeze thaw cycle like refrigerators do... now that were all down here the smaller one we keep his allergy free stuff in.. while the bigger one in the garage catches everything else lol.. when we were all at the VB house we had 2 refrigerators there... (mainly because dad wanted one with the ice maker/dispenser in the door
I'm figuring out how to run a water line over to the Whirlpool -- just dump the ice bin into the Sammy for ice-in-the-door. Need to figure out what "ice maker ready" means on the Whirlpool, does it need a kit with the water valve, etc.... I have to say the Wife is all-in for this "simple" fix...
