The dealer called be for I went to work, late start be cause of weather, and the fuel pump took a crap! I guess being an 02 with close to 200K on the truck is not so bad? It will hit the credit card for $1200, that is bad.
Dave ----
$800 for the pump, $200 for fuel system cleaning and the rest to figure out what was wrong & tax. Oh the truck had 3/4 of a tank of fuel so not something I would/could deal with and would not of had the time to fix it.
What would a rental run from Saturday till maybe tomorrow? It maybe a lot but they have always had a loaner for me and that is a plus and I did not buy this truck from them.
Dave ----
I would have skipped the fuel system cleaning. I've done those before, it's not worth the money. The loaner car is nice, a rental would have run about 40$ a day I think, and wouldn't have been a truck. The pump does sound a bit pricey, but I guess that is parts and labor to install. If books says 3 hours then that puts the pump at around 4-500 which isn't all that bad for a dealer part. I dunno, maybe it is.
But what's it worth to have it back on the road and driveable again? That's the real question.
As for new trucks, if you can convince yourself, a regular or super cab will work, vs the crew then that really brings down the price significantly. Some days I wish I'd opted for the super cab over the crew. Just for the price.

X3 on SCab vs. SCrew. I'm happy with the standard size bed, and I don't think I'd be as happy with the 5 1/2" as opposed to what I have. Both my kids are young and small (ages 9 and almost 2), so the SCab gives us all the perfect amount of living space on the inside.
I've put a refrigerator in my excursion. A washer and dryer. An air compressor.
A sofa. Kitchen table and chairs. 4x8 sheets of plywood. An entire crape myrtle. Endless amounts of lumber, tools, ladders and work equipment. A canoe and four kayaks at the same time (yes, inside). There ain't much I haven't or can't put in my truck.
He!!, I've slept in my truck. My whole family has slept in the truck. I think a whole village of third world people could live in the back of my truck.
So while yall discuss the merits of comparing short vs long, I'll keep loading mine up. She's a beast.
I have considered putting a ragtop on the back and taking the doors off when she gets long in the tooth.
When one of yall gets a six door, 8 foot bed, 4x4 we'll pull out the rulers and start the measuring contest.

I did think of skipping the cleaning but he11 its only money right? Other than a can of Sea Foam I have never done a thing to the fuel system.
As nice as this 2017 HD2500 is I like my 02 Durango more. this 6.4 Hemi must be a short stroke motor because it does not pull like my old school 5.9 does at 1200rpm. You hit a little hill at 55 MPH and to stay that speed it down shifts and RPM goes up to 2000+RPM. Just 1 of a few things I don't like of the truck.
I hope tomorrow to get mine back.

Yesterday was get David fix day.
I have an issue with 1 of my eyes and need to get a needle every few weeks, well I just went from 9 weeks to 10 weeks with a goal of every 12 weeks.
After a little nap to rest my eyes the wife took me to get my DOT check up. Almost ended up only good for 3 months and not because of my eyes but my blood psi!
Just before I left they checked again and was good so my DOT card is good for 1 year. Now I have to set a date with my regular doctor for full blood work when I have my next needle.
Oh the joy of getting old!

edit that first line does not read right does it?
That reminds me of the time in High School, a friend had a 56 Ford Crown Vic 2 dr hardtop. We got out the hacksaws and made it into a convertible Back in 1960 on a 4 year old car
