The front lip of the hood was see through almost from corner to corner, I was late bringing the camera out to the shop but the outer skin was cut of to expose the rust through that was underneath. Here shows where I started to cut it out.
This hood was off a 53 I scrapped years ago. Everyone tells me that only the 56's had these rivets but all 3 of the 56 hoods I have don't have them.
Maybe it is a Canadian thing.
Nice work John. Both the hoods I have don't have that rust thru issue on the nose, just dents out in the field of the hood near impossible to get rid of without the use of filler, which I don't want to use out there, IMO too much oil can action going on.

The overall shape of this hood is good other than the rust at the lip, there were all kinds of spruce needles packed in between the 2 layers of metal. The rust you see on top of the hood is very hard to remove also and will have my work cut out for myself removing it, it was suggested to use Rust Mort which I'll try if I can't get it cleaned well enough.
Thank you Joe, I had planned on finishing it today but fitting the patch took a little longer than I had planned, still have a bit of welding to complete it.
Keep up the good work J, why not put the emblem back on??
I closed up seven 1/2" holes and eight 3/16" holes on the sides of the hood which was for the F-100 and boomerangs from this 53 hood but don't think I'll run any badges anyway and will close up the two holes in front also. I filled all the seams on the cab too so think it will look better without the badges, the tailgate will let the unknowing what it is.
john, in an earlier shot of the cab, u show a build tag on the firewall i believe , was this a canadian built truck?

This must be the tag you are referring to, it is a Canadian truck built in the Oakville plant, this tag indicates it was a F-600. I removed this tag and filled the pin holes. My panel originally had a similar tag too, not sure if some of those numbers refer to paint code or not.
I had purchased a forward tilt hood kit for my Panel project and knowing there was a pickup build in the future I made plans to copy the kit. These pieces were made quite some time ago and the rest of the kit had to be completed now that the hood was completed.
