I get around 8-10. Sometimes a little less, like coming out of Western MD into ohio...around 5 because of the hills.
There just isn't anyway to get good mileage pulling a heavy 5er.
I agree. I get around 10.5 to and from Myrtle Beach from near Atlanta. I get around 8 in the N Ga mountains. Add a big headwind and it will drop into the low 7s at times depending on how bad the wind is.
Thanks for the input guys.
Last trip over the scales, she weighed 17,500 lbs. 3 axle. .....42+ feet long.
Around here it is up and down and curvy roads.

Roy - Glad to hear that JG did the job for you.. Mileage will probably come up now that you are actually breaking the engine in. The rings don't seat until you put them under a pretty good and sustained load.
Make sure you check your oil too....
I hauled my '56 White to an antique truck show we put on at Pegues-Hurst Ford in Longview, Texas yesterday. Normally I would just drive the White this short distance but the dealership wanted me to display my F-450. Both trucks got a lot of attention. When I travel farther to shows I haul the White on the trailer, weighs about 10,000#. No problems pulling that load, the truck never shifts out of OD and can hold any speed I want to run.
No offense but I'll take the '56 and you can keep the other
The 450 has A/C so it's worth keeping!
A picture of the '56 before a show and my '59 4400TD returning from a show. My Dad drove the '59 when it was new, putting over 900,000 miles on it driving from Longview, Tx to Pittsburgh, PA. When the company traded it in for new White Freightliner, the dealer kept the truck and made a wrecker out of it. It stayed at the same dealer from October '66 until I bought it in Jan '06 and started its restoration.
