Not the truck, the seats. LoL. So without hacking the floor up and creating super sexy one off floor, the correct way to keep this build budget friendly was to bid adieu to the King Ranch dreams and focus on what is now affectionately titled "hell's spider web" and figure out the seating at a later date.
So, the seats were sold, and I am now officially entangled in the web of wires working to make this happen properly...
I have this build posted on a few other sights, who shall remain nameless to protect my status as active here on FTE.
The PO found the thread and initially didn't realize it was his truck. He reached out, said hi, shared some information, and even cooler than that, shared some inspiration for me to get it going sooner than later- pictures of when he had it, out playing in its natural environment.
So, I will share the same pics here with you...and I have been told there are many more to come.
You know, for a rattle can paint job, that looks pretty good...
Subscribed...hello from a native Michigander now residing a bit farther south. I enjoy the humor you thread into your thread. Good read and fascinating project. I am highly disappointed you couldn't make the KR seats work, I was intending to scrounge some up for myself. Back to the drawing board I guess. Looking forward to your progress, cheers

Thanks. Well, I could have made them fit, but the floor board would have been completely re-fabbed to make the seats sits another 2 inches lower.
All in all, not a complete waste of time, as there will be time later to determine what fits better and is more comfortable than those factory benches.
In the middle of doing non-sexy, update worthy stuff such as taking dash apart, matching up wires, splicing and dicing miles of spaghetti, trying to figure out heater controls, etc.
Once the dash and internal wiring harness is situated, I will be posting pictures and updates on the build.
Building another AR and coaching my kids team had slowed me down this fall. Back into full swing of things within the past week.
I can't remember, are you using the powerstroke dash, or the dentside dash?
I am using the original dash, with Dakota digital gauges that are set up to receive powerstroke inputs. Haven't ordered the dakota digital yet as I am setting up the other stupid **** (overdrive, cruise , heater, radio, etc.)
I know it would be way easier to just use the donor's dash, but I'm stupid like that. I like the original dash better, and i think it will look cleaner once it's done.
Finally got the dash apart and opened to reveal nothing sexy at all.
In contrast though, amazing the lack of wiring in the wiring harness in the 1978 . Removal will be easy, clean up will be nasty, but really I feel I am on the last hurdle of this project.
But, while I am in here (the dash), I will be replacing the blower motor just in case. You guys have any other suggestions on things to replace/make better under the dash while I am in here?
Pictures coming. But be warned, nothing really exciting to see...
On a side note, the dash has been off before, that much I can tell.
So the heater control is fracked ( f'ing cracked). We didn't do it, it twas like that when we got in there. The white plastic piece behind the heater control. Shouldn't be too hard to locate a new one, right?
See the hole in the dash at the top right?
we didn't do that either.
Means some one (or something) has already had this dash off.
Well good. That means nothing will be too tight, stripped, or fubar's...right? LMAO.
Nope.
The side bolt to the body is f'd. After much determination (and beer), it is decided the dremel is once again my tool of choice!
Many curse words later, the bolt gave way to reveal (insert George Michael chorus sound here) "FREEDOM!"
The dash is freed. Which now leads me to ponder several thought provoking and insightful, yet profound thoughts -->
1. You can't see the hole in the side of the dash, unless the dash is off. But I KNOW its there. Should I replace?
2. The dude that put the radio in (or took it out) ripped the dash a new a-hole for where the stereo would sit. Do I try for a Double DIN stereo in the prison sized hole?
3. I think I need to sand this dash and repaint repair, or maybe just get another one?
4. Did I just quote a George Michael song?
Well now, look at that. No sexy here. Just getting down to the brass tacks.
Problem is, that is so little wiring harness in the 1978. Looks to be 2 pounds of Schitt. Now to clean up, replace a few things in preventative maintenance fashion, and stuff 5 pounds of Schitt into something clearly designed for the original 2 pounds of Schitt.
