1978-1979 Crew Cab build thread
A German project to be exact.
My intent was to have a LS swap into it.
And then sell it, for a maximum profit.
So I went to my local shop, not knowing what was about to transpire.
Wanted them to go over the "Red Rocket".
They inquire what my intention's were with this little German.
They knew about the other shop's rejection of Eleanor.
We laughed, bring this one over, maybe they will ban you for life.
Then the owner of my local shop looked at me, with all seriousness, " I can get Eleanor done. I want to be the one who gets her done".
I told him not to F with me, F with my vehicles is like F'ing with my emotions.
We struck a deal, and now the ball will get rolling again( I hope).
A gift, is a gift, is a gift; as my Buddhist friends would say (I'm a heathen, even by their standards, but they still accept me as a "friend".)
944's in general, are sexy to look at, terrible to maintain, and are as slow as my inbred cousin.
But... they are perfectly balanced at 50/50.
When you triple the horsepower by utilizing GM's gift to the masses (an LS), and still literally maintain the 50/50 ratio while doubling the cylinders, you have what I call a redneck rocket that can handle the curves like no other.
If you don't know, you need to find one and test drive it.
1st time I did, I couldn't stop smiling all the way back home after the test drive was over.
The only thing I could compare this redneck rocket to was an Argo I test drove that the guy had fit a 440 snowmobile motor in. Now that was redneck ingenuity. But I really didn't want to die so young, so I passed on that life ending purchase.
just my humble opinion.
Unfortunately, yes. The shop it is.
I did get an ETA from talking with them. We are looking at early spring, 2022.
But, as always, I ain't holding my breath.
Like Killer says, they look cool on the outside, and must be a booger to keep running.
I'm gonna fess up here. _ _ _ _ In the past, I have been Tempted so far as to LOOOK at several 928's. Didn't buy any because of the crappy interior fit and finish, which looked like a self-purchase-Migrane. hahahaha
On the other hand, one would need to be completely gone-through front to back. Mechanical's first, and interior and electrical migrane last.
I drug home a '62 Ford F100 flareside short box 2wd pickup mid-2021. It is a clear-title roller which did have a 223 inline six. just another orphan.
Ford's may be similar to Omicron Variant's where we can be overcome with an addicting virus, and wind up with a yard full of Ford's with no Notice.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
First off, not looking for sympathy. I just wanted to make sure y'all understand why I have been your absentee Uncle Killer.
My mom passed away right around the Porsche posting. I am sure her last words were "tell them it wasn't the "rona". To say it sucked, and was unexpected, is honestly the understatement of the year. Really took some time for me to get my head right, honestly.
With her passing, I inherited her home and went through some serious project undertaking, all the while making her mortgage and mine. The home needed a lot, and took a lot of my time, and my sanity. But through the help of family and friends, we knocked it out and sold it during the hot market last year.
Having paid two mortgages for that long, made me realize something. I really can't get fired from my job or I would be up that infamous ****ttzzzz creek without half a paddle. So I got my head on straight, focused on work, and my consulting business, and made sure I wouldn't get fired for being a depressed azzhat.
I also realized something else: all that extra mortgage I paid, I could rent :
1. pole barn
2. land to put a pole barn on
3. pounds of codeine to convert to meth (wait, that was a show).
4. a warehouse/business.
Soooooooo....I didn't cook meth.
But I did find a place to rent to work on my junk.
But not just any place.
A retired body shop.
with enough room for all my stuff
and all my tools.
Hell, there is enough room left over, I could put up a meth lab. (ok, last meth joke ((I think))).
AND WHERE ARE WE NOW, UNCLE KILLER?
I found a shop guys. For Eleanor's wiring. Literally, someone, who didn't blink, promised me it would wired in 4 weeks.
Guess what?
CHICKEN BUTT!!!
But really, it's wired! 4 weeks as promised.
And back at my shop.
The goal is to have it running, shifting, stopping and doing general redneckery by May 6, 2023, just in time to get to the annual Ford Truck and Bronco swap meet in Hudsonville, MI.
There, I can load it up with more Ford parts for ANOTHER crew cab I bought (1979). (Yes, that means yet another project build from me, to you. You're welcome)
SO UNCLE KILLER, WHAT ABOUT REGULAR UPDATES?
So here's the deal kiddo's. Gather around the fire.
I will post every Sunday. With everything as I can, weekly, to get you up to date.
I won't be data dumping in one post.
I will be posting on one section at a time, once a week, and then answering any questions you might have.
I'm also, maybe, possibly, potentially, creating a you tube channel dedicated to the dumb s we do, and the projects involved.
Anyway, my apologies.
Hug your loved ones, even if you're mad at what they do.
Cause one day you won't be able to.
Call them if they are too far away, and let them know how much they mean to you.
Cause one day you won't be able to.
Make that trip to see them. Love the time spent like it's the last ride.
Cause one of these times, it will be the last goodbye.
So guess what. Its Sunday (AM here).
Off to get some parts for a different build, working on Eleanor, load up pops in prep for next week's work at the the body shop (Pops, not Eleanor), then coming home to get you all (1-2 of ya) up to date later tonight.
Looking forward to seeing your updates!
