Did the left side bushings today, no pics. I managed to put a nasty gash in my pinkie when the pry bar slipped while I was aligning the pivot bushing hole with the frame. But it's all back together now and seems to 'sit' a bit better. My neighbor loaned me his Snap On electric impact gun which made things go faster. The right side outer tie rod end is pretty worn but not sloppy so I'll be working on those shortly.
I used the impact on the ball joint press kit to push the pivot bushing in pretty quick. Man, I do love me some power tools.
I took the entire I Beam, radius arm, and steering knuckle/rotor out as one unit again. Way easier than trying to get that damn bolt out that holds the spring in.
Did a quickie alignment on the toe in with a tape measure, wheels were toed out about 1/2". A bit of tweaking with the tie rod and now they are dead on straight. Also changed out the two power steering pump belts. Drove 16 miles to work tonight and she cruised down the highway at 65 mph with no problems. Could use a fourth gear though....
And I burned up a 1/4 tank of gas round trip to work and back. Dang.
According to my fuel gauge I've used 3/4 tank in 110 miles. Although I'm not so sure I got the tank filled exactly as full as I did the time before last, as it came off F faster than usual. Also, my sender drops faster when you get to 1/2 tank and lower. Your sender might not be that accurate lol.
The 4180 is jetted about as lean as you can get to have that truck run and drive without trouble.
Take a look at the tag on the pumpkin.
Often the first number of the ratio is obliterated by the bolt head. but it is easy to figure out.
Often Dually's will have a 3.53 gear for highway towing.
I'm not sure what they put in the Dana's.
More familiar with the '85 and on Sterlings.
I'm heading to California Saturday morning on at 400+ mile round trip with the truck to pick up some family heirlooms so this'll be the litmus test to see how good my repairs have been. I plan on taking some tools and my floor jack in case I have troubles. As good as the truck's been running I think it'll be uneventful.
Made it back. According to the first half of the trip I got 8.04 mpg if my odometer's accurate. Had no problems at all with the truck. Filled both tanks in Henderson and made it to Phelen with 1/2 tank left in the rear tank. On the way back I filled both again and made it back to Henderson with 3/4 tank left in the rear tank.
Pretty decent for a crew cab dually with a 460. If you ever look in to replacing the carb, look in to the Summit racing 600 CFM carb that I and a few other members on here have.
