Thank you guys very much for all the info, links, and help!

Looks like the turbo rebuild kit is around $109, thank goodness something doesn't cost a grand to fix. lol

I for sure will be doing studs when the heads go back on with OEM head gaskets and all other nice new o-rings and gaskets.

As for the egr, any sort of mods I will do myself. Just need to figure out which way to go. We don't have any inspections so I can do whatever but I do plan to sell the truck after awhile and would like it to be ok to go anywhere in the US. Right now I am really leaning toward the stealth delete for a few reasons. 1 it looks stock for the next owners possible inspections, 2 it is easier, 3 the system can still be reverted back to stock if need be. It is also possible the truck will go to the family business if it behaves and we can't find a 7.3 replacement for our one current truck. So no matter what I will make sure this motor is all done right and will last.

I highly doubt there are any problems with the heads but they will be checked out. This was a great running truck, no mixing of fluids, and the coolant bottle held pressure for weeks.

Also yes, I believe this truck remained stock its entire life. The only bolts I seen that were wrenched on were the fan shroud bolts. I think possibly to change the belt but we will never know. All the wire clips, plastic trees, nuts, bolts, and all were in there places and not touched. Its what I like to see! There was one missing starter bolt though. lol

I will definitely keep everyone posted and put up lots of pics. I like pics too!

Off road diesel is the same formulation as on road now, the only difference is the off road has red dye in it. Several years ago, that was not the case.

Nowadays, the only difference is color and cost (no road tax applied) You do risk a hefty fine if you're caught with in your tank though. You have to evaluate the risk.

If someone ran off road and it "shut the motor down"...I would highly suspect the fuel was dirty or old. I would install an inline filter on your off road pump.

Oh yeah, also while I was pushing the truck outside I noticed the front driveshaft turning. I turned the shaft by hand and it turned free but seen that the passenger side hub is locked. I turned the hub to lock and back to auto and still no love. I'll just add that to the list of things... lol

Wow a lot of work to do with the potential sale in the future. Have you figured if you'll get back all the $$$ on upgrades from "just anybody" - realizing that isn't the only decision since YOU will be driving it for a while..

Maybe flush the heater cores since you've got the engine disconnected there is NO chance of stuff getting into the block.

CLEAN offroad diesel won't make a difference in your 6.0

It's beginning to sound like the Ford Garage is telling me a lie? Maybe they aren't allowed by law to 'advocate' putting Off Rd diesel in these On Rd engines?

Although I do recall a couple of years back or maybe a bit longer that (and I'm thinking now it may have been GM) some locals tried to run the OR dyed fuel and it shut their engines back to and Idle and they had to be towed to a dealer, fuel system cleaned and computer re-flashed??? I know, sounds kinda far fetched??? could be they just had some dirty fuel.
I won't beat this to death but I just wanted to hear from some 6.0 owners that could attest to the fact that it wouldn't harm my engine. Thanks for the input.

well...it is 100% illegal to run offroad diesel in a liscenced road vehicle

and

offroad diesel can be rather dirty. the few guys I've seen on the forums who did run offroad diesel have complained about their fuel filters getting gunked up early. I'm thinking any/all issues are more from dirty fuel due to crappy storage conditions. It's offroad purposed, so I'm betting most places don't really take a lot of precautions to keep it clean

You can run it in a licensed vehicle but you cannot run it on the road.

I would bet off road fuel anymore is a lot cleaner than you think. The newer tractors and equipment need clean fuel just like a truck.

These are the humble words of MisterCMK sent on the go...

Speculation:
Years ago off-road diesel had higher sulphur and that messed up engine, NOT the red dye.
Now i believe even offroad is ulsd, so other than the dye and a hefty fine is the same fuel as at the pump.

IRS Waives Diesel Fuel Penalty Due to Hurricane Katrina

You may recall this so what the Ford Garage is telling you is to keep there
@$$ out of the fire for telling you that you can.

So long as the fuel is clean and not old and stale it should run without
any problems. The one thing you will see if the tank and filters showing
red from the dye and I don't know how long that will take to go away
if ever.
