Wow! I just stumbled across this . I have lots of old lanterns . Gas coleman type and oil burners . I did not know that there was this type of interest in the gas burners . Learn something every day . I'll have to dig a few out and see what I got left . The only gas burner I use any more is an old WWII single mantle GI issue that was my fathers . I still use pump gas in it ! He always did , smokes a bit at start , then good to go !
Wandering the local Craigslist this weekend found a stove that look in good shape, after a few emails i got the seller down to $20 dollars.
1/66 it looks to say on the tank tabs for a date and its a 425D, in rather good shape. little dirt and a few nicks and dings but better than the black and grubby stove i was considering for 5 dollars more.
oiled the pump and flushed the tank out, got it to run. will likely pull apart later and give it a good cleaning. and leave it be. i bought this one to replace the 2010 424 Coleman stove i bought and have never used..... was not happy with its build quality and waited too long to return it, think i am going to try and trade it off for something.
time i got home it was dark out so just a couple crummy cell phone pictures for now.
on a side note: been trying to get a 200/200A Christmas lantern on eBay, was biding on 4 different ones. all 4 of them went over $50 bucks! and i stopped bidding.... spensive little buggers!
i personally have not seen anything good locally, weather eBay or a few yard sales, etc.
I like the idea, how would it work? I'm envisioning the sisterhood of the traveling pants... Coleman style.
exactly..... more less no planned routes, it just goes wherever. idealy it would travel between members face to face like a small meet up, or shipped to someone.
when a member gets it take it camping or used for something...pictures with it... maybe have it for set time at each stop? then off it goes!
hopefully what ever maintenance it needs along the way, i.e. mantles, globe, generator, etc the members can take care of....
i am planning to sacrifice my only 228F to get this ball rolling.... no big deal as i kinda want a month/year matching 228F to go along with my 220F.
I love it, add a small notebook to the shipping box to log its travels around the globe.
yup! a log book will be with it when it leaves here. hopefully keep in in the US and Canada.... but if someone wants to pay to get it out to the far away places then more power to them. also have a running thread to keep dibs on its location and pictures!! gotta have the pictures!
trying to keep it simple... at the moment the idea is to use a 5 or 6 gallon bucket with a screw on lid and foam lined as a shipping container. theory is put the lid on seal it with some tape for some tamper resistance and slap a label on it and away it goes!
Shipping restrictions are maybe gonna' be a problem along the way.........
Mantles are going to be a problem, too.
Pop
hopefully if its being shipped they will drain fuel out first....
it will go with a pack of mantles, from there on out its on its own. the peerless seem quite durable sofar in the one lantern i have been taking over to a friends house. but a drop kick from the shipping monkeys i cant do anything about.
when i do the thread for it i will include some instructions like drain fuel before shipping...
